Chapter Seven:
I may not die today… maybe tomorrow then?
—
Third Person’s Point of View
Arth’s feet swiftly paced towards the edge of the balcony.
Without any haste, her hand reached for the man’s tuxedo as she tried deterring his actions. However, she was a second too late. Due to the gravity that accompanied his jump, there was no ceasing the inevitable.
In a heartbeat, Arth had been dragged along the weight of the man causing the both of them to fall on the edge of the balcony from the sixth floor that they had been on.
Closing her eyes, Arth could certainly feel the gravity and the wind enveloping her body in a way that she had never experienced before. She felt like her insides had churned and even though she did not eat anything aside from the pomegranate drink, she felt like she wanted to vomit the liquid out of her system.
She had never fallen from such great height ever before which is why such emotions and feelings had swirled up inside her. Dozens of times, Arth had fallen from her horse as she had already lost count but never from a castle. And most definitely, it was a different feeling falling from a horse since it is really not that high.
Moreover, whenever she would fall from the horse, the grassy field was always there to catch her. But this time, she is sure that once she falls from the balcony, the cemented ground would welcome her body.
Now, this is such a dumb way to die.
“Glory!” She had heard the man exclaim with a deep and husky voice. Arth could not quite see his facial reaction as her eyes were closed, afraid of what is yet to come.
Arth felt like once she opened her eyes, she would have a full view of how her death had come to.
This is not how she expected to perish.
Falling off a castle’s balcony seemed rather absurd than being killed by a vampire.
Never did she have the chance to formally say a farewell to her beloved family. The thought of leaving them all behind automatically tingles her heart in pain. She had always treasured them with everything that she had. All throughout her 20 years living in this world, she had always been thankful for the way that they had raised her and cared for her. There were a few regrets in her life and she felt like she did not use much of her days and lived her life to the fullest.
In this very moment, Arth felt like she had taken her life for granted.
Before she could feel the rough ground; a big hand snaked through her waist and enveloped her small body against the wind. Despite the body engulfing her into a hug, she flinched at the coldness of the touch.
It felt as though that the touch was more cold than the wind’s breeze itself. Which made Arth confused for a meantime. However, she did not have the time to think about anything right now except for her death.
A loud thud was heard when all of a sudden the movement stopped. Although her body did not feel like she had crashed onto the terrain and she could still feel her heart beating rapidly inside her chest,.
It was an indication that she is still alive, right?
Opening her marbled grey orbs, the face of a man had welcomed her sight.
The first thing Arth noticed was the fact that he had crimson red eyes, matching his raspberry colored hair. His features alone screamed scary and frightening. The man was staring intently at her with furrowed brows. It was as though he was also confused just like how Arth was currently feeling.
Not bothering to move from the weird position that they were at, Arth gulped as she tried to find her voice. “H-have I e-expired?” She had questioned, voice full of worry.
Red crimson eyes blinked at her and all of a sudden she felt a movement from him, standing up both on his feet. That was when Arth realized that the man before he was carrying her in a bridal style as he saved fher falling from such great heights.
Eyes widening in shock, Arth felt the need to jump off of the man’s arms but there was something captivating by his eyes alone that she could not dare to move even an inch.
Despite his cold and terrifying demeanor, there was something in the man’s red crimson eyes that made Arth queasy.
So instead, Arth just repeated her question. “Have I expired, Sir?”
That was the cue for the man to release his hold on Arth and then gently helped her on her feet. In an instant, the horrifying look of the man came back. Almost causing Arth to stagger backwards.
His stare alone could definitely make someone cower in fear.
However, Arth did not want to be that person.
She wanted to show him that she was in no way scared of him. Since Arth already had a feeling that this man before him is the infamous Demon Prince Jaeden Kingston.
Instead of answering Arth’s question, he dared to ask. “Who are you?” His voice was deep and no emotion was laced in it.
For a moment, Arth did not know how to answer because of the chilling atmosphere that surrounds them. In a way, Arth did not answer his question either. She could play this game if he wanted too.
“You are Prince Jaeden Kingston, right?” Arth had begun, her heart hammering inside her chest. “I was told that you are a monster.” She had gulped, her breath hitched when he had decreased the distance between them.
His face was void of any emotions but the tension in the surrounding stayed. “I am no monster. I am the demon.”
