Chapter 16

Leticia’s POV

“Desi, look at me. We are here, and we will get through whatever happened. Lower your emotion shield, so I can hug you”, I say.

“It hurts Leti” she cries.

“I know, and we will fix it.”

The gray bubble starts to shrink back inside Desiree. Sharon and I run and hug her as she cries her heart out. We sat on the floor with her until her cries slow down. She looks so broken and hurt.

“You want to tell us what happened?” I asked.

“I was stupid”

“Desi, we have known you for a very long time and stupid is not what I would ever call you”, Sharon says, wiping her face.

“He played me. He played me and hurt me. I trusted him, and he used me, all for her. I hate them both” she says,

“Who did what to you? Tell me, and we can all go dish out some justice. We are Maxwells, we don’t play. These people around her don’t know who they are messing with”, I tell her, half joking to lighten the mood but dead serious because whoever hurt my cousin will feel my wrath. She looks at me and laughs.

“I don’t need him, because I have you guys. You will always be there for me” she says

“Always”, Sharon and I say together.

“You ready to talk?” I asked. She nods her head.

“But keep your aura under control, you are scaring people”. Sharon laughs at her

“Oh goddess, I am so sorry” she turns and sees the Luna, Claudia and her grandmother.

“I am so sorry. Please apologize to everyone for me”

“No apology necessary, Desiree. We are just going to sit in the corner, and you tell us what you want from us” Luna Belinda says

She shakes her head and looks at Sharon and I. Sharon gets her some water, and we pull away a bit so she can look at us while she talks. We keep our hands on her as emotional support.

“If having a mate means you get treated the way I did, I don’t want one. I will stay lonely forever” she says sadly.

Desiree’s POV

I went to my room after drenching that asshole in water. I can’t believe an alpha would treat someone the way he did. Once I get into my room, my emotions overtake me. All I feel is sadness and grief. I lower myself to the floor and let out all my emotions. I can’t stop crying. My heart hurts so bad. After a few minutes, I hear knocking on the door, but I couldn’t pull myself from the overwhelming grief to respond. I know it’s Leticia and Sharon, but I can’t respond to them. Next thing, the door is knocked down and they are in front of me. My cousins, my friends, will always be here for me. They will help me. I focus on the people that love me and I slowly feel things calming. Then they rush and hug me, and I know things will be okay. They love me, my family loves me. Their love is all I need.

“I was stupid”

I know she is smiling to lighten the mood but would go and shred that man if I asked her to. I laugh at her. I love my family

“Always”, Sharon and Leti say together.

“You ready to talk?” Leticia asks. I take a deep breath and nod my head

“But keep your aura under control, you are scaring people”, Sharon laughs.

“Oh goddess, I am so sorry” I turned and see Claudia, the Luna and grandma

“I am so sorry. Please apologize to everyone for me”

“No apology necessary, Desiree. We are just going to sit in the corner, and you tell us what you want from us” Luna Belinda says

Sharon gets me some water, and they position themselves across from me, so I can look at them while I talk, but they put their hands on my legs as my emotional support. I smile because we did this when Sharon’s dad died and when Leticia had her first break up.

“If having a mate means you get treated the way I did, I don’t want one. I will stay lonely forever.”

“What did he do, Desi?”

“Alpha Teddy of the Eclipsed Moon pack was my mate. He said he accepted me, even though I was human. We went back to his room, and you know.... He said it would only hurt for a minute and that he would be gentle.”

“It hurt Leti. I cried the whole time. He wouldn’t stop even when he saw me crying.” I started crying again. They hugged me and waited for me to talk again.

“He finished and told me to leave. He rejected me. He said I hit Tina and was trying to take the twins from her, and this was my lesson to stay away from them and to not touch his family. I told him she was not their mate. Then he said he can’t have a weak human as a mate.”

“I got mad. I accepted his rejection, then drenched him in water. Seeing him wet and surprised felt so good”

“I’m sorry Desi. He’s an asshole and a bad alpha. You are too good for him. What does Tina have to do with Alpha Teddy?” Leticia asks.

“She’s his cousin. Remember she said she was telling her alpha cousin about how I disrespected her”, I explained.

“I’m sorry things happened this way, but I am glad you are no longer his mate. He doesn’t know how to treat a woman, especially an amazing person like you”, Sharon said, hugging me

“Don’t worry, we will make sure he and his b***h of a cousin feel the Maxwell wrath” Leticia says

“We are going to show him, he can’t break you. Why?” Sharon asks.

“Because I’m a diamond and diamonds are unbreakable”

“Exactly!!!” They scream and jump up

“So tonight, we are going to go to the ball and what?” Leticia says

“Shine bright like a diamond” I said, standing up smiling. We all hug, Claudia joins us.

“You know what I need” I said. Leticia smiles and pulls out her phone. She starts playing Each Tear by Mary J Blige. This is our song when we need to get through things.

We listen to it on repeat and then advance to our confidence-building song; I Feel Good by Mary J Blige and then Bottoms Up by Trey Songz, and I’m ready for the ball. We head to Luna Belinda’s suite with our clothes and the glamour squad comes to get us ready. We have cocktails, because while being here, I realized I don’t like champagne and wine is just okay. But I like fruity cocktails.

Because of my breakdown, we are going to be a little late for the start of the ball. I find out that Luna Belinda opened her link to the twins and Alpha Trevor while I told the girls what happened, and he wants to talk before I go to the ball. Four hours later, we are all waxed, pressed and primped. Claudia had to be with her family for the opening speech, so she left with her mom. We stand together in the floor-length mirrors admiring ourselves. Leticia, Sharon and I grab hands

“We are beautiful, amazing women and if a man can’t see that, then that’s his problem and not worth us” Sharon says

“Thank you, guys. I love you!” I say
