Chapter 22

Alpha Kane’s POV

“Tina, you have to be out of your f*****g mind. I don’t take sloppy seconds, and I am no one’s backup plan. Accept the rejection,” I say, and leave the cells.

I walk out and get assaulted by the bright summer sun. A tear slips from my eye. What did I do to get a mate like that? I have tried to be a good person. Maybe this is karma for allowing my pack to suffer for so long under my father. But I stepped in as soon as I could.

“No Kane, you are a wonderful alpha and the pack has been prospering since you took over” my wolf, Leo says

“Thank you, Leo. I want a mate. But I want the right mate. I want someone who will love us for who we are. I’m sorry I could not accept Tina. I know a rejection is hurtful”, I say to my wolf.

“It was worth the pain. She was not a good shewolf and she would be a horrible mate. Don’t worry, the moon goddess will bless us”

“Yeah, but when? It has been 4 years.”

“But we just started really searching for her. Remember we have been fixing and rebuilding the pack. Have patience”

“That’s true. At least now I have a positive place to bring my mate to”, I say

I walked to the pack house and see Lawrence and his mate Ashley. She sat down with us yesterday and told us about her association with Tina. She explained that she was an orphan at Crescent Lake after her pack was destroyed by rogues and her parents killed. She admits to being friends with Tina to fit in and be accepted, but did not agree with her plans. She did go to the alpha’s daughter to tell them what Tina was doing to the twins. We talk about her need to be more confident and aggressive, she desires to train when we get to the pack and is eager to take on jobs to help the pack. She said she feels needed and wanted now, which she never felt before. I spoke to Luna Belinda about Ashley, and she agreed with Ashley’s assessment. She is a lovely girl who was easily misled because she wanted friends. Hopefully, she can find herself at Bloodmoon.

We agreed to leave after lunch. Bloodmoon is located in Georgia, near the South Carolina border. It will take us 2–3 hours to get home. I also wish to speak to Desiree before I leave. I would like to be a part of my sister's life. She confronted me with such strength and determination yesterday; even if we don’t grow a sibling bond, she seems like a good person to know. I heard she shifted last night and has been sleeping. When we walked into the packhouse we go to the dining room for lunch and Ashley says her cousins went to her room to get her. I am willing to wait a bit to see her. After about a half hour you can hear Desiree and her friends outside the dining room. Leo starts to jump around in my mind.

“Dude, calm down. You are going to give me a headache.”

“MATE…..MATE, our mate is here. I smell her. Go get our mate.”

“We just rejected Tina an hour ago. We are not going to get a second chance, mate that quick”

“Get up and find our mate now, Kane!” he growled.

I stood up from the table and walked towards the doors of the dining room. The most amazing smell of peaches envelops me. I look around and see Desiree coming down the stairs. With her is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. She is about 5ft 7in, caramel colored skin, she doesn’t have large breasts like Desiree, but she has hips and a butt. Her hair is in its natural curls, pulled up into a ponytail, and all I want to do is let it down and run my fingers through it. I run to her and lift her up, screaming MATE. I found my mate and this feels so different than my experience with Tina. I am still holding her, and she looks down at me with a smile. She puts her hands on the side of my face

“Can you put me down?”

“Yes ma’am. Only if you promise not to leave me” I say.

“I have no intention of ever leaving you, my sweet mate” she says, caressing my face and putting her hands in my hair.

I slowly guide her to the floor. She then leans up and places a simple kiss on my lips.

“We need to talk” she says. I shake my head and start to follow her to the backyard.

“Hey. I rushed out of my room to come see you before you left”, Desiree says

“Oh s**t. Hey sis, I’m sorry. Can you give me a minute,” I say ashamed.

“Boy, I’m joking. Go talk to Claudia. You had better be good to her too. She is one of my best friends” she says with a laugh, and heads to the dining room.

The girl Desiree called Claudia leads me to a bench in the gardens at the back of the packhouse.

“So you are Desiree’s brother. Alpha Kane?” she questions

“Yes, Alpha Kane Brett Davis; but to you, just Kane.”

“Well Kane. I am Claudia Annette Stone. But Claudia is fine.”

“Are you related to the Alpha and Luna?

“I am their daughter. I am 18 years old, and will be 19 in 4 months. I am currently a top warrior and have been trained to be a Luna by my mother. I have no desire to go to college, but I am good at budgeting and finances. I want lots of babies”

I sit there stunned, just staring at her. I don’t know what I was expecting, but not for someone to just lay out who they are and what they want like that. I love it; honest, direct and straight to the point.

“You don’t beat around the bush, do you?”

“I have learned that not being direct leads to misunderstandings and I would rather get to the point, address an issue and fix it. Mom says I can be a bit too blunt at times though,” she says sheepishly.

“I love it. I’m used to women playing games and trying to get me to interpret what they want or are saying. I am not very good at that. A direct approach is new for me. I would like to see how it works” he grins.

“Where is your pack? And do you have to leave today?”

“Bloodmoon pack is in Georgia, not far from the border with South Carolina. It takes about 2–3 hours to get there. We are a medium pack, smaller than this one. I don’t have to leave today. I can send my Beta and his mate back today and spend another 2–3 days to let you pack and say goodbye. I have already been gone 2 days, so I can’t be gone much more than that.”

“Okay. I don’t need 3 days. I just want to spend a day with my family before I leave for your pack. I also don’t care about the size or location of your pack. Where you are, I am. Everything else we can work out. Who is your beta’s mate? Is she from my pack?”

“Yes, her name is Ashley Lloyd.”

“Okay, before I move I want you to know everything. I don’t have a problem with Ashley. I think she was misled by Tina. And prior to meeting you, she came to me and we settled our differences. I am not the most popular girl in my pack. I actually was picked on a lot by Tina and her crew, and prior to Tina coming to Crescent Lake I was a loner. People didn’t know how to be friends with me. Most of the time they just wanted to say they were friends with the alpha’s daughter, not really be my friend. So I keep to myself a lot. I don’t have problems interacting with people and I can be very sociable, but if not required, I am usually doing something alone. I like to sew, so I tend to do that a lot”

“I understand. My father is the bastard that kidnapped and raped Desiree’s mom. My mom was his true mate, and he abused her and cheated on her. Over time, this led to her death. After that, he would berate and disrespect all he felt below him. He forced himself on omegas and even fathered other children. When he killed an omega for refusing him and started going after mated shewolves, something had to be done. I challenged him for the pack at 18 and killed him. Some people left the pack, others stayed, but for the last 4 years we have been re-building our pack and reputation. I am still figuring out this whole alpha thing and tend to get in my own head at times. I think we can help each other. I think this is why the moon goddess fated us together.” He smiles.

I lean in and kiss him, he scoots over and deepens the kiss. This was not my first kiss, but it was the best. Her lips are so soft. She breaks the kiss and looks at me.

“Any jealous shewolves I need to worry about?”

“No. I have not slept with nor been in any relationship with a pack member. I have been focusing on building the pack since I took over. It has only been the last 4 months or so. I have been looking for my mate”

“Okay, so now we are going talk to my family. Let your Beta and Ashley go home now, and we can leave the day after tomorrow, so I can spend a little more time with my family.”

“Sounds like a plan”

She links her parents and brothers to meet us in the office for more formal introductions. I get threatened by her father and brothers to not hurt her. They tell me how precious she is to them and the conversation ends with a hug. She then goes to tell her friends, and they help her pack. The plan for tomorrow is to spend time together and we will leave the next morning. I spend a few hours getting to know Desiree before we leave, and she is funny and kind. Thank you moon goddess; I received a beautiful mate and a lovely sister during this trip.
