Madelyn dozed off as soon as her tired body hit the soft mattress of Lucian's room. It was comforting and relaxing. Lucian kept looking at her face that had not an ounce of makeup but yet it was that face that he could watch forever without getting tired of it. Not long after, exhaustion took over him as he dozed off beside Madelyn.
Madelyn was first to wake up from her slumber, and her first instinct was to scream and kick the man sleeping beside her out of the bed they had shared. She was used to living alone. Plus, why would a man be beside her?
Only after Lucian groaned as he retorted back with a pissed face did the events from earlier dawn upon Madelyn. But there was no explanation why they should be sharing the bed, at least at this stage.
"What are you doing beside me?" Madelyn grumbled with a grumpy face.
"If you are wide awake, you can move. Call room service if you are hungry." Lucian gibed, sleeping on the bed. He was still feeling tired from the earlier events.
Madelyn had nothing to revert except frowning at Lucian's back. She tumbled the blanket with enough force to make a point as she headed towards the washroom to get fresh. She had no fresh pair of clothes. Maybe she would have to repeat what she was wearing. But still, she needed a hot shower to relax his tensed muscles.
The shower did little to ease her mind. Now that her body felt fresh, she wanted to know more about the man in that room with her. Well, he was definitely a wolf, like Mathias said. But he was obviously more powerful. She wondered if he was strong enough.
She moved to the couch area to order food and watch TV while waiting for Lucian to wake up, but he was already there savoring some delicious food.
"You can use my clothes if you want." Lucian took a big bite of whatever he was having.
"No, thanks. I don't plan on living here with you." Madelyn sneered, taking a seat beside him. There was more than enough food for both of them.
"Ouch!" Lucian jeered, sipping the purple drink he was having.
Madelyn rolled her eyes. She wanted to have one peaceful meal before the talk. She knew Lucian would have tons of questions for her, too. It wasn't an awkward meal but mostly silent except brief exchange of insignificant words.
"Isn't there anything you want to ask?" Madelyn was the first one to break the invisible ice. She knew she could have bombarded him with her questions. But Lucian was the one who was helping her. So she was going to play nice.
"Yes, a lot. But before that, I have something in my mind that I can't get rid of." Lucian smirked, rising a little to close the gap between them. Madelyn was a little taken aback by his sudden movement, but she didn't show it.
"What is it?" She whispered. She was nervous, flushed, and shy. Suddenly her confidence was slacking while she tried to hold her fort.
"I want to check something." Lucian raised his fingers to tuck a fine strand of loose hair behind her ears. Her body tensed as she swallowed hard.
"What?" She tried to avoid eye contact. She wasn't sure why she was still sitting there. Generally, she would be throwing a punch by now. But it was as if she wanted him to get close to her.
"Madelyn, no matter how curious I am to find about you, know you, understand you..." there was a short pause as he raised her face with her fingers to meet her eyes. But she closed them immediately. Her whole body was craving for this man, and she couldn't understand why. They had met just last night, and here she was melting.
Lucian neared his face dangerously close to her. His hot breath fanned the sides of her already flushed cheek.
"I can't help but..." Lucian wasn't sure if he should use the word mate. He still didn't know what she was. She was not giving any wolf essence.
"You are a wolf." Madelyn pushed him with all her might. But it wasn't enough to even budge him more than a few inches. He chuckled as her chest moved up and down erratically. She was breathless, and her arousal was all over the place.
"So you know my kind. Then you know what I want to check probably." Lucian snickered, closing the gap between them again.
"No-no-no-" Madelyn chanted as if it was some spell to put some wall between them. She got up to walk away and clear her head to think straight.
But Lucian was quirky and fast. He was in no mood to let her go or this moment to pass without any results. He wanted her. He needed to find out if she was his mate. But more than that, he couldn't get rid of the thought of kissing her luscious lips. He pulled her back, and this time she landed on his lap.
"What are you doing? We need to talk. It isn't right, Lucian." Madelyn shuddered and stuttered.
She was losing her plot. She began forgetting the questions she had for Lucian or why she was even here. The world was narrowing for her rapidly. Her body was reacting to him in ways she thought were impossible.
"Shhh..." Lucian hushed her, putting his thumb on her lips as he gently caressed her rosy petals. He narrowed the distance, resting his forehead on hers. The only thing separating their lips at that moment was his thumb.
"It's true that I am curious to know more about you, but all that can wait for now. I have wondered enough to know what you are. But even I am astounded. Because even if you are an alien, it barely bothers me. But most importantly, what I want now is to explore this connection. My wolf is going crazy to find if you are our mate. I mean, I might even get disappointed otherwise. But I also know it doesn't matter anymore." Lucian heaved as he circled his free hand around her waist. She was really thin, fitting in one hand.
He lowered his thumb and raised her face a little. Now their lips were brushing each other. Lucian could feel the twitch between his pants while Madelyn's inside was a volcano, ready to explode. Her heart was pounding in her chest. Was she really his mate?
She had read a lot of werewolf books while growing up to know more about them. They were all fiction, having hardly anything to do with reality. As she began crossing paths with wolves, she figured out they were very different from what the love stories said. A mate was so rare that most of them had already forgotten how it even felt to have that bond. She found out about some event called claiming where wolves would chase each other to claim their mates. It was a bizarre concept for her. She couldn't understand why the supernatural world was so interested in finding mates when nature had already parted its ways. They could always fall in love naturally as humans do.
But that was her thought before this moment. Right now, what she was experiencing was beyond her vocabulary. Her entire body was on fire. But the sensation between her legs was even fierce. She wanted to rip Lucian's shirt and mark him right then and there so as to claim him as hers. The impulse was way too strong. She was struggling to hold her urges.
It is not like Lucian was the first man, or even a wolf she came across romantically. There were others. But they always happened in her life at a tortoise speed and passed in lightning speed. None of the s*x she had, not even her first time, made her feel so alive. It was different with Lucian. Even if she was initially not interested in this devilishly handsome man, things have changed against her first impression quite fast. She wanted to do crazy things and more. He was intoxicating.
It wasn't Lucian who took the initiative of the last step to kiss, surprising both of them. But as far as no one was complaining, nobody cared.
Madelyn wrapped her hands around Lucian's neck, closing whatever gap was between them. She captured his lips with hers as she pulled him closer towards her. A sweet moan escaped from Lucian's mouth. He could feel fireworks exploding inside him as he cupped her cheeks to deepen the kiss between them. He wasn't sure if this was how he was supposed to feel with his mate. His wolf was unable to find a partner. But one thing he was sure of was he was falling for Madelyn, mate or not.
"Aaah.." Madelyn groaned when Lucian bit her lips, demanding an entrance. His hands were now moving freely behind her back as he tried to suck on her lower lips, seeking an entrance to ravage the insides of her mouth.
When she moaned, Lucian got his chance. He shoved his tongue inside her mouth, raving. Sparks exploded, sending ripples throughout her body, making her even more aroused if it was possible. The chain reaction of gushing hormones inside her veins made her feel livelier. It was the best kiss of her life, and she wondered if anything could replace this ever now. She was forever going to yearn for more of it. Was this how she was supposed to feel with a mate?
Lucian slipped his hands inside Madelyn's top. He wanted more. There were no obvious tingles or his wolf screaming mate. But what he was feeling was much more amorous and fulfilling than ever. He didn't want anything more. He didn't want anybody else. For him, he knew it in his heart that it was Madelyn. Only she was crazy enough to make him go mad for her even without caring a thing about her past or even her mysterious persona.
They took a break, gasping for air. But it was too short for Madelyn even to catch her breath when Lucian's hot mouth crashed on hers. Well, there was no way she could resist him anymore. This time he was more careful and considerate, contrary to the first kiss, which was more roguish and urgent. She started melting away in his arms by his sensual kiss, gentle strokes, bewitching scent, and a feeling of belonging.
Madelyn pulled his shirt at that. She had never been possessive about another man. That single thought of belonging made her want him closer to her.
"Tell me, I am your mate." Madelyn whimpered.
Lucian was taken aback for a moment. But it only made him feel better. Well, at least she was feeling strongly about him. There was certainly something between them that was not just random.
"I want to," Lucian whispered between his soft kisses. He moved towards her ears, planting wet kisses at the corner of her lips and jawline.
"But I don't know yet," Lucian mumbled in a half-hearted tone near her ears, kissing her neckline.
Madelyn was mad. She pushed him a little to put some gap between them. "What do you mean you don't know? Shouldn't we be knowing it by now? What are we supposed to feel? Or what happens?" The disappointment on her face was like a prize for Lucian. He was never so happy.
"A kiss only tells you there is a strong connection. Only when we do it, we would know. Plus, there is no wolf of yours with whom my wolf can communicate and be more certain." Lucian tried to explain to her before going back to what he was doing. But Madelyn was not satisfied with that answer. She moved up, rising to sit for a talk. She can't wander in the dark anymore after feeling all those things, only to find the worse. She glued her eyes at Lucian in a questioning manner.
Lucian ran his fingers through his hair, taking a deep breath. He didn't want to stop. But he can't force her for something.
"What do you mean?" Madelyn pouted.
Lucian was surprised. Instead of sounding angry, she was rather disappointed. Was she expecting them to be mates like him? What if she is not okay if they are not mates? Will she leave him? Panic began to slither under his skin.
"I am just telling you it is too soon. Wolves need to have a higher level of intimacy to be certain." Lucian tried to explain to her. But now, he was scared to have s*x with her. He didn't want to lose her already.
"You want to have s*x with me without knowing a thing about me?" Madelyn's question was too direct, making him feel as if he was some creep.
"It isn't important to have now." Lucian didn't know what to say. So he lowered his head.
"But you want to have it at some point?" Madelyn probed, startling him.
"Yes, I mean at some point when we both want it. It doesn't have to be now. I mean, I am okay if you want it now. But we can have it-" Lucian sighed. He realized he was explaining himself a little too much.
"I am scared. What if I am not your mate? And why can't you feel my wolf? Is it a bad thing?" Madelyn looked down, worried and overwhelmed.
"What? You are a wolf?" Lucian was more than startled. Not even once could he sense her wolf or find a thing that would suggest she had one. Was she really his mate?
"Yes, I am!" Madelyn affirmed, her voice filled with worry.
