CHAPTER 11

NATHAN NOTHING WILL CHANGE My heart breaks into a million pieces at what my mate just said. I know we haven’t marked each other, but I can see the extreme sadness in her eyes as she says those words. How come no one made her laugh in that pack? What then were they saying to her? How can someone live all their life with no laughter? Tyler mindlinks me, “Can we go back to cripple Kizziah and his entire pack?” “Just leave the son to me.” Alex adds with a growl. “Certainly.” I growl back as I try to smile at my mate. “That’s going to change now that you’re with me. You will have all the laughter you want.” I assure her, pecking her temple. I chuckle inwardly as her face turns red. My men and I continue discussing in our link as I feed her. I can’t stop looking at her lips as she opens her mouth and chew the food. In between I caress her cheeks and tuck her hair behind her ears., loving everything about her. Even the way she chews her food. She reaches out for the cup of water, but I get it for her and lift the cup to her lips. This seems to startle her and she looks up at me. “Open.” I slowly say, smiling at her. She obeys me, slowly opening her mouth to drink from the cup in my hand. “Thank you.” She says softly and blush brightly. “My pleasure, little flower.” She sure can blush and it gladdens my heart that I make her do so. “Won’t you eat?” she asks looking at me first before Tyler and Alex. “We are good, Luna. Thanks for asking.” Tyler answers. She looks at me again. “I am good too.” “You ate before?” She asks again. “No. Now eat.” I raise another spoonful to her mouth, but she pushes it away. “I am full.” I frown as I look down at the plate of food. There's still over half of it remaining. “You haven’t eaten much?” I can’t help the harshness that seeps out into my voice at her not eating enough. Didn’t they give her enough food? Is that why she can’t eat much? She bends her head down and ease herself off my laps, fiddling with her dress. My eyes are following her as she retreats to a side of the room, backing us. “Flower?” “I am okay.” she whimpers. “What is it? Please tell me.” Declan is growling in my head. Did we say something wrong? “Did I say something wrong?” “No!” she twirls round to us and I see that she has tears in her eyes. I jump out of my seat, approaching her, “Then what is it?” She looks away from us down to the floor. “I am not used to…the food…they…” she stutters, choking down a sob. Declan is almost coming out. “Calm down.” I assure her as I hold her in my arms. “What is it?” She breaks into sobs as she speaks, “They…I was starved for years…until three months ago. I don’t know how to eat a full meal. I can’t eat much.” All our wolves roar in our heads at this. Behind me Alex and Tyler are on their feet. “Let’s go back and finish them all!” Volk agrees with Declan and Molt, Tyler’s wolf. “I am sorry; I can’t finish the food. I am sorry for wasting it…I am…” She cries on making me to crush her to my chest. “Shh…shh…you don’t need to apologise for that, flower. You’re not wasting any food.” “I am sorry…I...” “Stop crying, please. All of that will change. Like I told you, you’re with me now. Your former life is over.” I hold her, cursing Kizziah and his family, vowing to take my revenge. After she stops crying I help her back to the chair. “You can finish the food later, okay?” She nods. “ “Are you going to leave?” she asks grabbing my hands. “Never.” I tell her, loving the quick smile that forms on her face. “Thank you.” “Don’t thank me for never leaving you. It’s what I am supposed to do.” “Okay.” she clings to me as sit down. I hoist her on my lap and wrap hands around her waist, comforting her as much as I can. I wish both of us could feel the bond. “Let me know when the men are here.” I send a link to my men. “We will stand guard at the door,” Alex nods at me as they leave. I turn back to Jessica. “Close your eyes, Jess, I am here,” I can feel her heartbeat slowing down as she calms down in my arms. After a while her heart beat picks up again. “You don’t want to rest?” She shakes her . “I just woke up.” “Okay.” she’s right. “So, what do you want to do?” “Are you sure I am your mate?” she peers up at me, shyly. “What do you know about mates?” I smile down at her, loving how bright her blue eyes are. “Nothing much. Other than mates are the goddess’s gift to us. Our other part,” she starts playing with a button on my jacket. “That much sums it up, but there’s more to it than that. Every wolf has a mate and they know who they are through their scent and when they see each other. Their wolves also get to say the word ‘Mate.’” She moved to another button.”Is that all?” “No, flower. There’s more. A mate is supposed to be your better half, someone who completes you. Like a missing piece of your heart. You fall in love and spend the rest of your lives together. You feel what they feel through the mate bond. Pain, joy, happiness, fear, anxiety. Everything.” Joy flows through me as I look forward to sharing my feelings with her. “Of course, both would have to mate and mark each other to access each other’s feelings.” “What Saul was planning to do with me?” Anger courses through me as I remember what would have happened if I hadn’t gone for the ceremony. “What would have happened if Saul had mated and marked me?” her eyes look up at me again. “I would have lost you forever, flower,” I reply immediately because that is the truth. Saul’s mark would ensure her mate bond with her fated mate would be broken. Even if they see each other, the bond won’t throb. They would never know they are mates. Her small palms touch both sides of my face, bringing me out of my thoughts. “I am glad you found me, Alpha Nathan. You saved me from that brute and his family,” blinking, as tears settle on her lids. “I prayed for help and the goddess sent me help. She sent you.” I wipe the tears away from her face, thanking the goddess for making me go for the ceremony. I would have lost her forever. “I spent years planning to escape, but I had nowhere to go. I don’t know much about packs, no friends, I had nowhere to go. As the day of the ceremony approached, my fear grew especially when Saul’s s****l harrassments increased.” “Did he ever touch you?” my palms clench into fists behind her back. Images of what I would do to Saul if she said yes. “No. But he would always touch me inapporpriately,” she drops her head, rubbing her palms together, her uease obvious. “I would sometimes wake up too find him sleeping beside me or just sitting and watching me. He also would find every excuse to be near me, touching my palms or…my…” stopping as her voice cracks. I put a finger under her chin to raise her eyes back to mine. “You don’t have to tell me everything now. And what you just told me or will tell me later, won’t change who you are to me or what I feel for you. You are my mate, Jess, and I will love nothing more than to avenge you for all the wrong Kizziah and his family have done to you.”
