CHAPTER 14

1466 Words
A FAMILIAR POWER (Silvercrest Pack) ALPHA MALACHAI We are all caught unawares as a surge of power ripples through our bodies as we sit at lunch. It occurs for a few seconds but we felt its rawness. This was pure. A familiar power that only a werewolves like us could wield. It was faint just like the faint hope we have been nursing for almost two decades. Almost sixeen years to be precise. Yet my hope finds its feet, though wobbly, it’s still on its feet. As I exchange glances with my mate and son, I see the rising hope registering in their eyes as well, before feeling it. “Could it be her?” Midriel asks, over our link, continuing his meal. We aren’t the only ones here, hence the need for privacy. “We have to check, father.” “Let’s speak after lunch,” I reply him, nodding at my wife, Rakiel, who is equally acting like our son. “We can’t all leave at the same time.” “I will leave now. The two of you can join me later at the library.” she says in the link and stands up. “If you will all excuse me.” She tells the other people at the table with us table, comprising of my Beta (Gary), Gamma (Finch), Rissi (Rakiel’s sister and Gary’s mate), Maya (Rissi’s close friend) and Fidelia (Maya’s daughter). Apart from my mate, son, Gamma and Beta, I don’t trust any other person on this table. Rissi’s head snaps up as her sister stands up to speak. “Are you feling ell, sister?” She asks. “I Am fine, dear sis. Just going to take a little nap.” Rakiel answers her with a simple smile. “Okay.” Rissi smiles back, watching as her sister departs. I send a mindlink to Rakiel as she leaves, telling her to go to the waterfall instead. If we are going to talk about this issue, it has to be where we can be certain that no one will hear us. I send the same to my son and notice his short nod. My wolf bristles at someone looking at us and I turn to see Rissi giving me her usual, lustful look. She quickly smiles affectionately at me when she realises our gazes are locked. This woman just doesn’t know when to give up. Sighing I send another link to one of my warriors telling him to call me on my phone in the next five minutes. I feel his confusion as to why he should call me when we are already talking. “Just call me.” I tell him over the link. “So, Mal…” Rissi starts to say, but I cut her short. “Alpha King Malachai,” making sure my voice and eyes show my displeasure at her for trying to be informal with me. Rakiel and Rissi are twins. Their father was my father’s head warrior before he passed. From the day Rakiel and I discovered we were mates, Rissi wasn’t happy because she had her eyes on me. Twenty years later, Rissi hasn’t let go of her dream to be my mate and Luna. Even with her being mated to my Beta, Gary, didn’t deter her from her plans. “Oops! I am sorry, Alpha King Malachai. Please, accept my apologies.” she apologises, giving a false smile. “I thought we had passed that stage of formality. It’s been over two decades since we have become family. But apologies all the same.” She rattles on. “Apology accepted.” I can’t count how many times I have specifically warned her not to call me by my name or give me a nickname. But she just refuses to listen. Still intent on ousting her sister to be with me. It makes me wonder how she expects me to leave my mate for her. “What do you want to say?” I can see Gary biting down on his lip. “I am sorry, Mal,” He sends me a link. “It’s nothing to worry about. She just won’t change.” “I know,” He sighs and glares at her which she ignores. “I was thinking about the next pack run. What are the plans?” she asks. “Your Luna is making arrangements for it as she always does. When she’s done she will let us know.” “Okay, but I was thinking that maybe we can add a bit of bonfire at the center of the pack…” “I believe your Luna will be happy to hear your input, if you gladly make it known to her.” I see how her face goes sour as I kept using the word ‘Luna’. “Well, as alpha and the one to lead us…” My phone starts to ring thankfully just before I am about to lose my temper. “Hello.” I answer, rising from my chair and leaving the table. I start a mindlink with the warrior telling him to cut the call but I still hold the phone to my ear as I leave the place, hurrying to meet my mate. Alpha some of my members greet me on my way which I return with smiles and waves. Behind me I hear my son approach. “Did they suspect anything?” I ask him as I wait for him to catch up with me. “No. I had Josh call me too on my phone.” He smiles at me. “Like father, like son.” I smile back at him as we continue walking to the waterfall. Our pack, the Silvercrest Pack, formerly Crest pack, is the only pack in the entire werewolf community that has extra powers. Beyond our physical strengths and nature as werewolves, we have powers that many have termed magic, but we know it as the Shakuna. A form of power given to us by the Moon Goddess. Our ancestors once helped the Moon Goddess to defeat a scourge of hybrid werewolves who were prowling the earth, taking lives as they deemed fit. They were a mixture of both vampire and werewolf, which made them unstoppable in their quest to inflict harm on the world. Both humans and supernaturals all fell to their bites and claws. Those that didn’t fall offered a regular supply of virgin girls to the hybrids as well as food and money. This went on until the goddess had had enough of their blatant disregard for life, by asking for werewolves that will volunteer to help fight this hybrid scourge. No pack came forward, afraid of losing their lives and packs. They preferred the offerings and even when the number of virgins began to dwindle in their packs, they still didn’t relent. Creating a new dimension to the whole situation, whereby packs began to steal female mates from both their pack members and other packs. A full fledge war was bound to happen, one which was about to end the existence of all werewolves. That was when our ancestors had offered themselves as volunteers because our pack was relatively safer, being well hidden in the deep forest, surrounded by mountains and waterfalls. Before they went to battle she imbued them with her power, making them faster and stronger than the hybrids. When they thought they were going to use their natural strengths. After defeating the hybrid scum, she left just a fraction of her powers from them as p*****t for offering themselves as volunteers. One distinctive feature that changed as a result of this was the change in the furs of our ancestors which was passed down to us, generations after. We went from being different colours, to one unique colour – silver. Hence, the name Silvercrest Pack. “Do you think it’s her?” Midriel asks as we almost reach the waterfall. It was our favorite spot with no one allowed to use but us being the royal family. “We won’t know yet until we make our findings,” I answer even as I know that there’s a hundred percent chance it’s her. My Amerie. “I want to go with you,” his brown eyes shine with determination and hope. “Let’s speak with your mother first before we make any decision,” I once made the mistake of not doing this and it almost cost me my mate, family and kingdom. I can feel the emotions of my mate through our bond. She’s scared and afraid of being hopeful. We reached the waterfall to find my mate already waiting for us, pacing. “Honey,” I engulf her in a warm hug. “I can feel your emotions.
