Chapter 20: To the Rescue

I was Samuel's second in command for a long time, we go way back as kids and he trusted me with his life, I wasn't happy when the Elders betrayed us. I had no reason to hurt him or his family and he had my back for a long time, I did missions for him in Ravena by being his spy at one point until I met my first daughter's mother. I saved her from rogues and we fell in love, I had planned to mark and bring her to the Underworld but on one of my missions, I met my mate, Jennifer. I was located in the human world hunting down a few demons who needed to return to Demorand, this is where I saw her, a human, and that didn't sit well with Sonia, Sheila's mom. Her mother filled her head with lies to the point of madness and I fear something more sinister is going on with Sheila.

I left home and headed to the Palace, Samuel was still looking for the culprits who killed his mistress, his secret kids with her were devastated about the loss. I met up with Samuel to give him feedback about the meeting I had with Queen Marion, they were looking for the Dark Witch as she had caused problems and they assumed she was hiding out in our realm. Honestly, she was not but when my daughter turned up a few weeks ago, I, honestly felt it was her, she had this aura about her that was off. I constantly ask myself, will I be able to turn her in? My wife Jennifer thinks she was the one behind our other daughter's disappearance and until I have proof, I still can't bring myself to have her executed, that's why I banished her from my home instead. Sheila was a troubled child from a young age, her mother wasn't my mate, and after we broke up when I found Jennifer, she poisoned Sheila against me.

I love my daughter and I have a bad feeling from the other night, I hope I am wrong but only time will tell, Samuel has a lot to deal with, so I need to step up for him. She was a witch and I never expected to fall in love with her but then my mate turned up centuries later and I admit, I was a coward and had the affair before I left eventually. Sonia hated me since then and would always tell our daughter very hateful things about her half-siblings and stepmother. When she died, I felt horrible but Sheila was still a teenager and came to live with me, she never wanted to be with us but what could she do, I was her father. King Samuel liked Sheila and always promised to mate her when she was older if he didn't find his mate but in the end, he chose our other daughter before she ended up missing.

We looked for her for years and never found her, she just vanished, I felt her death a long time ago but hadn't the heart to tell her mother, she was human so she wouldn't have felt it. Samuel also felt it through me and he was sorry because she would have been our future Queen, he also kept the secret from my wife. It would kill her if she knew, our son is in college and we recently had another baby girl, although my wife is a human, being mated to me, she will live as long as I do without aging. After putting all the information together about the Dark Witch, I needed proof that it was Sheila and if it were true, King Samuel would execute her and there was nothing I could do, I failed her as a father and I will never forgive myself for that. After, I left to go to Kuron, his third in command who was tasked along with Balthazar to find his mistress attacker and keep his children safe. Devon was also looking into who could have poisoned his little brother and he wasn't taking it well because those brothers are close, very close, you attack one, you attack all.

Marlon was mostly accurate in his findings, about the Dark Witch, I knew it could be her but I wasn't sure, however, I let her slip through my fingers just in case it wasn't her. Marlon's daughter with Jennifer was my fated mate and Sheila didn't take that well when she found out but she was young and I was dealing with Lylac then. After the loss, I went to a Seer who told me about my second chance mate but not when I would meet her or find her, all I knew was, that she was part of Ravena. I searched but to no avail but now, I have a bit of leverage to make a deal with King Aidan if I need to, I hope our friendship will help us work together so I made sure I would walk with the signed treaty when next we meet up. As time progressed, I was getting a bit frustrated but I needed to do what I do best and lead, I watched my kids play knowing the sacrifice their mother made.

I was awakened by the vision that my mate would be killed, I had been waiting for her for centuries and needed to find her. I got my men to find out where she was and showed them where she could be. We had established that she was in King Aidan's realm, so I needed to work with him. I visited him and he allowed me to come into his Palace and we were having dinner with his lovely mates, he growled when I was looking at his Luna Queen Michelle a little too long and I smiled saying, "She is not the one, but I was admiring her beauty." He said, "Looking is fine as long as that is all you do," before we entered his office with his Beta and Gamma. I had admired how his pack worked and how respected he was, he was indeed a great ruler.

After the meeting of explaining that I had a vision and was looking for my mate, he asked for my blood so I cut my hand and bled into a glass and he drank it seeing my deepest darkest secrets. He offered a deal as he smiled and said, "We can help each other, I want the Dark Witch and you can have your mate," I was surprised but he could only make that deal because he knew who she was. He wiped his mouth after drinking my blood with a smile and said, "What a trip, your mind is messed up but I can see that you keep your demons in line, the dirty things you do, damn, I wouldn't want to be on your bad side," I laughed. He leaned over looking at his watch and told Drax something in the ancient language of the gods and Drax sped out of there like something was wrong.

I said, "Let's face it, you have all the power, I wouldn't stand a chance since some of your people are mated to my people so mutual respect is better." Not that I am scared, I think we are on a level playing field since I am immortal myself, we care more about our people and peace is what we prefer, plus, I always had a crush on the Moon Goddess so I wouldn't think of harming her creation unless it was called for. Kiev came forward and asked, "Did you sign the treaty I sent you? It has been a while and you haven't gotten back to me, let's say a few years," I smiled and said, "I signed it," handing it to him, he smiled and said, "Tell Marlon, we will be coming for her, we need to make sure that she is not who we think she is," I bowed before going to meet up with some old friends.

I had been shown around the area by Gamma Ty, he explained how we do things here, he respected Aidan and loved his pack and I could see how loyal he was to his people and friends. I looked at his Medallion as it glowed when he saw his brother walking towards him, I recognized it and I froze a little because I knew his lineage. I smiled cause little did I know, we would be the best of friends, I met his brother, Toffe, who introduced himself and shook my hand. He was wearing a family ring with the same symbol as the medallion and it hit me, I said, "You guys are elementals, aren't you?" They both looked at me with their vampires coming forward and calling out my demon and he submitted and said, "My Kings." I was in the back of my mind and could not hear what they were talking about anymore before my mind went blank.

I wanted to say more and asked the questions I needed to ask but then I woke up back in my territory with my second-in-command telling me, "Our Queen and your mate were asleep, she was exhausted." I nodded for him to leave and got up with a headache, I asked my demon, "What was the secrecy about?" He said, "They are the true heirs but they didn't want the throne because of who they are now and since it was in our family for so long, let's say we are true allies." I decided to clean up and I linked for someone to clean my mate up and get her food ready for when she is awake, I wanted her comfortable. I couldn't believe she was in the next room, I could feel the bond being so close to her, I didn't want to scare her so I needed to take this slow, learning who I am hopefully won't stop her from accepting me.

Sol said, "She has no choice but to accept you, she is banished from Ravena for her crimes," I stopped him and said, "I know but let her tell me her version of things." Sol turned saying, "Congrats bro, I hope this relationship lasts, you deserve happiness, Sam," I nodded before he left. I lay back on the bed and closed my eyes tapping into her dreams, I stood by the lake of fire watching her walk towards me, scared but she held my hand and kissed it saying, "You will be safe here with me." I got up and headed down to the office and saw my son, Connor, he was leaving to go to the Academy and I hugged him. I told him, "Now don't go and get yourself into trouble, I am just a call away and no one knows who you are." He nodded before Doni took him to Ravena, Doni would always be there with him as his protector, I got a link from Dawn later that afternoon notifying me, "Your Queen is awake, Sam."
