I looked at him, could I really get out of here? He is the ruler, surely he had the sway, but what if he changed his mind? Let’s at least try this way, if it doesn’t work well there's always plan A.
“My sons would like to come back in and shower you with affection, now that may not be what you’re used to so all you have to do is tell them to tone it down if they become too much,” he chuckled. I could see already they got that side of them from him.
“Sir…Kaladin” I corrected myself and he smiled brightly. “Do you think they… Well, are my mates?”
Kaladin smiled at me softly. “Right now, I think there are a lot of questions that need to be answered. The most important thing is we get you treated and out of this pack.”
I nodded, but felt somewhat hollow by that answer. If I was their mate I would need a rejection before I could leave this mortal plane, I couldn’t hurt them the way I wanted to hurt Joshua. “I want to be alone if that’s okay.”
Kaladin nodded and left the room. I saw beautiful lavender eyes waiting by the door only to look hurt by the news they would not be allowed in right now. Both men looked to me pleading, but I just turned over in bed and covered myself fully with the blanket.
I clasped my eyes shut and called out to the universe again begging for help. Help to navigate this life I have been dealt.
“Shesh you really know how to use a guy,” A deep Australian accent caught me off guard.
I pulled the blanket softly away from my face to see a man sitting in the chair. His body was painted black with ash up to his face but his face wore a mask that seemed eldritch. It was bone white with rubies adorning it. He wore a black jacket open revealing his toned abs and loose fitting pants with no shoes.
“W…Who are you?” I stuttered.
“Hmm I can’t believe of all the little creatures on this planet you managed to summon me,” he smirked and c****d his head as if peering through me. “I gave you my descendants and yet you still cried for help.”
“Your… I’m sorry I am so confused,” I admitted, pinching the bridge of my nose a headache beginning to form. “If you aren’t going to answer me please just stop talking. I have had a long day and just want to relax while I can.”
“Move over,” he ordered, he climbed into the hospital bed.
“Hey what the hell?!” I tried to argue but he easily moved me to the side and got comfortable. I tried to push against him, but the man was like a mountain. “Will you relax? Nothing can happen while I am here,” he rolled his eyes and pulled out a book.
“It’s not that… I just…” I sighed and felt no fight left in me. He didn’t feel repulsive when against me, honestly it felt like nothing; and right now nothing was what I needed. “Can you read to me?”
“Will you stop trying to punch out my kidney?” He chuckled softly before carefully pulling the blanket around just me and putting a pillow between our hips and abdomen. I nodded and settled into bed.
“It’s Hans Christian Andersens’ The Snow Queen,” he began to r******w we are about the begin, and you must attend; and when we get to the end of the story, you will know more than you do now about a very wicked hobgoblin.”
I yawned and closed my eyes, I turned and snuggled into the pillow. “He was one of the worst kind; in fact he was a real demon.” He stroked my arm gently, soft tingles tracing down where he touched. I didn’t bother looking up and just let him, it didn’t feel unpleasant and that was all that I could ask for.
His voice wrapped my body in warmth and I set in for slumber.
Unknowns POV
I sat bored on my throne, the rulers of Earth had managed to keep from war for a few decades and the minor lords and ladies had all but faded into the ether. Selune still was the ever so popular High Lady with her shifters, and their mate bonds, I rolled my eyes at the nonsense that was.
I got up and went over to the restroom pulling off my mask looking at my disheveled ash blonde hair. I felt annoyed at the boredom that protruded my life. I once craved this silence, I was tired of wars and bickering about love and money. I stepped into the shower and I began to clean off the black ash that coated my body. My gold scars lined my body and I clenched my fist as flashes of the wars filled my mind.
A whisper came in. “Read it Hazel,” I announced.
“A prayer request from Earth,” Hazel replied.
“I had offspring so they could deal with this Hazel,” I waved my hand away.
“My lord this is the first request for you in ages, I should think you would want to listen,” Hazel continued. “The being prayed to Selune for a very long time.”
Hazel knew how to get my interest and I nodded for her to let it play.
“Please…” A woman’s voice begged. Her voice sent vibrations through me and I looked to the whisper. I found the image of a woman face down on the bed. “Show me what is going on,” I demanded and Hazel opened a viewing window of the woman who prayed.
I clenched my fist as I saw some wolf forcing himself on her. This is how Selune let her mate bond work. I let my gift slide into that room just enough to strike fear into him and it did within a few seconds he was out of the room. The young woman turned her face towards the direction of the viewing window. Her eyes were the drake drake passage way, stormy blue.
“Thank you…” She whispered, her voice was rough with emotion. The woman passed out soon afterwards. I stayed watching her for a few moments, worried that she was going to die from the amount of blood she was losing. She was so still and flicked an orb of dim light into the room and stared cautiously. Stepping onto Earth could start a fight with the High Lords and Ladies; I didn’t want to get involved unless completely necessary.
Her chest finally began to rise and fall slowly. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. Okay good now I can just go about my evening. But I couldn’t get the poor creature out of my head.
“Damnit, Hazel send a prophecy down to Orpheus and Azrael. I don’t care if Selune has given her a mate, she deserve someone better than a man who would rape her,” I sighed feeling annoyed that I was getting involved in such meaningless task. But she prayed to me, how can I just let her down? Yes, that's why I am getting involved. I nodded to myself.
