Unknowns POV
I could fear her voice itching at the back of my head nightly. Every nightmare she had fluttered into my mind while it happened. I was getting so tired it had been a week since Hazel sent the prophecy to my descendant and yet the woman was still in that pact being abused.
“Hazel why am I hearing this woman constantly?” I asked my assistant.
“It would seem she and you have made a pact or bond of some sort, I have no information on this happening to other High Lords and Ladies and the people of Earth,” Hazel explained.
“Ugh,” I clasped my face annoyed. “Send a message to the courts and let them know I will be making periodic stops to Earth for an investigation.”
A fire-like pain hit my left thigh and I shot up in my bed. “My lord!” Hazel shouted concernedly. “Oh high hells,” I pulled off my pants, seeing a giant red mark on my thigh. “f**k, I’m going to Earth now.”
I finished getting ready when her voice called again like a siren's call.
“Shesh you sure know how to use a guy,” I spit out as I sat in the chair. She was fully under the blanket, I could see her body shivering. The woman pulled the blanket away from her face and I could finally see all that they had done to her. Her face was sunken in, it's like any spark she did have was gone. I wanted to just take her back to my court and make sure no one can touch her ever again.
“W…Who are you?” She stuttered. Gods why was this creature's voice so divine? I could smell my descendant presence so thankfully she was going to be safe, and yet why did I not trust that they would take care of her? Why did I want a reason to stay near her? Was it the bond Hazel mentioned? Could that really be the reason?
“Hmm I can’t believe of all the little creatures on this planet you managed to summon me?” I c****d my head to the side. “I gave you my descendants and yet you still cried for help.” I tried to understand why she still called out, they seemed to not being doing a good enough job helping her.
“Your… I’m sorry I am so confused,” she just looked so defeated, but then quipped “If you aren’t going to answer me please just stop talking. I have had a long day and just want to relax while I can.”
Sleep, Hazel mentioned at one point that people with a mate bond would feel better when they slept next to each other, and while it's not a mate bond that we have there is a bond and I feel like I could help with that at the very least. I just wasn't exactly sure how I should ask or if I even should.
“Move over,” I climbed into the hospital bed, she was so small there was plenty of room.
“Hey what the hell?!” She began to protest, but she way a buck ten soak and wet so I simply moved her carefully. I could sense all of her bruises and wounds and tried to avoid hurting her as much as I could. “Will you relax? Nothing can happen while I am here.” I tried to explain. She didn't know me or what I am capable of, but telling her might make her fear me and that was just something I couldn't handle. I pulled out a book trying to look as innocent as possible.
“It’s not that… I just…” She tried to explain, and it is not like I didn’t understand. She had been forced to do things by so many people and I was just continuing the pattern. I debated just getting off when she asked. “Can you read to me?” Her voice was so soft I almost didn’t hear her.
“Will you stop trying to punch out my kidney?” I teased. I wrapped the blanket around her and pulled some of the pillows from the chairs in the room to put in between us so she would feel at least a little secure. I began to read the story. It was one I knew from memories so I didn’t need to actually pay attention to the book at all.
I could hear her yawn and peered down through my mask and decided to try and lull her a little further and stroked her arm with just the tips of my fingers. I could feel the intensity of the bond and struggled against it slightly. I’m never not in control and to feel such strong connections with another creature was weird.
She slipped into sleep, I stopped reading and just watched her. Her mind was silent for the first time all week and I could breathe a sigh of relief.
“My lord, your presence is requested in the moon court,” Hazel whispered.
I carefully stood up and pulled off my jacket covering her. “I’ll be back, I promise.” I stared at the small woman who was finally resting easily. She nuzzled into the fur on the hood of the jacket, pulling it close to her.
“Let’s go,” I turned to Hazel and we sank into the shadows.
“Carden,” Selune smiled down at me from her throne. Her platinum blonde hair glowing.
“Selune,” I nodded. She was bewitching, though she her light had faded from the glory days.
“What’s this I hear about you going to Earth?” She raised an eyebrow.
“Is that any of your concern?” I c****d my head.
“It is, if it is interfering with a mate bond I created,” she smirked, before pulling out a picture of Hesperia and her mate Joshua.
“You think that is a good bond?” I questioned, looking at the cocky woman exhaustedly. “He forced himself on her! He broke her spirit.”
“My pairing is not meant to make sense to a being that cannot love,” Selune laughed and stood up before walking down. She touched my chest and it was repulsive. “Where’s your jacket you rarely leave your court without it?”
I grabbed her hand and yanked it away from my body. I could hear growling from guardian wolves in her court. “Do not touch me,” I glared at her. “You do not hold as much power as you think you do.”
“Tsk,” she looked at me a little nervously.
She may have the most support, but they know my court is the strongest. It would be foolish to make my court an enemy at this point. “Just know my bonds are meant for equals, so if your little pet is mated to that animal what did she do to deserve that.”
I was about to argue when I felt her wake up and her fear spiking. Someone was in the room with her. I couldn’t trust anyone with her yet. Her fear trickled through her whole body and then pain. Damn it I need to get there.
