Chapter 38: BEFORE

Chapter Thirty Eight:

Getting rejected.

I WAS FUMING mad.

To say that I was angry would be an understatement. I was beyond mad, and I was already on the verge of doing something inexplicably bad. However, I tried to focus on simmering down the anger boiling inside me. For I know that it wouldn’t do me any good.

My teeth were gritted, and I was clutching at the file in my hand too tight that my knuckles were white. I think I was glaring at my manager as well. If that’s true, I have no way to confirm it since her whole attention was glued to her phone—like she always does.

It had always been clear to us that she didn't care about any of us.

Standing there, I absolutely have no idea what to do. Should I leave her office and just accept her decision, or should I talk it out of her so she’ll eventually agree. My mind kept replaying her reply earlier, and I never knew that it would cause me so much pain.

It was as though all the hard work as well as the effort that I exerted for the project were all gone to waste. All the sleepless nights that I had to bear, and the fact that I still go to work despite being sleep deprived—all of those flashed in my mind. I was on the verge of tears as I remembered all the sacrifices I made in order to finish the project proposal, and here I am—being rejected by Ms. Evans even though she hasn't even taken a single look at the file.

Honestly, it would’ve been much nicer if she had pretended to at least read a couple of pages, and then reject my submission. Instead, she just blatantly rejected it as soon as I mentioned the project. I even thought that she would be proud since not everyone volunteered to take part in the event.

“You’re still here?” Her voice ripped me from trance. I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat, ready to give her a response but she cut me off. “I thought we’re done talking already?” she added, dismissing me once again.
