Teething

*Alette POV* I cannot believe that any of the men in this damned family thought it would be a smart idea to allow my mate to go off all rogue and s**t with this business with his brother. I couldn't believe he thought it was a good idea. If it were just Lance, it would be different. However, I knew Lance wouldn't be alone. I mean, I'm thankful he was able to rescue River, but he put himself in so much danger doing so. What would have happened to me and the boys if he hadn't made it out alive? He is pissed at me right now because I sucker punched him. He deserved it for worrying me like he did. So, let him be mad. After I stormed away from my mate and family, I found myself walking the perimeter of Silver Howl. It was truly beautiful here, and I could smell the ocean air from the far west side of the pack. I missed being near the ocean all the time. I was a beach girl through and through, but being in a mountain-based pack, I couldn't quite get a good scent of the ocean. Spirit Mountain was only about forty-five minutes from my favorite beach, but it was still difficult to find a way to get to go there. Life has gotten so stressful for me. I used to be so carefree, and if I needed to get a way, I went. All that ended after I was taken. I came back to a life of service, basically. I owe a service to my mate and husband, then my pack as their Luna, now my children. Don't get me wrong, I love all of that, and them. I wouldn't trade any of it for the world, but I can't help but miss the Alette I used to be. "You are getting pretty good at hiding," my sister, Asteria, laughed. I shook my head, and kept picking at the grass I was sitting on. "Just needed to get away, I'm sorry. What are you doing out here?" I asked her. She plopped down beside me and said that she had been looking for me. She told me that her and Addie could feel my inner turmoil. I always forget that my sisters can feel my emotions just like my mate and mother can. The last thing I want to do is upset my sisters. "I'm fine, Asteria, just have a lot of chaos running through my mind right now," I explained. "I'm missing the 'old' me. The 'old' me that could just go off and adventure without permission or worry about any danger. So, basically, I'm having a pity party with a side show of resentment right now," I laughed. She just shook her head at me and then laid it on my shoulder. "Lettie, I know it's a lot to take on the responsibility that you have, but you are one of the most amazing Lunas and mothers I have ever met. Your pack knows how much you care about them. Just like Addie's pack knows how much she cares about hers. There is never any question about where your loyalties lie. You have to remember to take time for you still," she whispered to me. My sister always had the right words to say to me, and I knew she meant every word she said. That was one thing about my family; we were blunt and always honest. Even if it hurts. I know that we have kept things from each other, but when confronted, it was always the truth. My dads say it's a sign of respect to be fully honest, and I have to agree. Asteria and I continued talking, and Damian's voice echoed in my head. "Baby, please come back. I'm sorry about everything, and I think we should talk," he said. I reluctantly agreed, and I grabbed Asteria's hand, and we walked back to the main house. When I walked inside, I walked completely past Damian, and straight to my boys. They seemed off, and I wanted to check on them myself. I laid my cheek on each of their heads, and each one was hot with fever. "Damian, have you not checked on the boys since I've been gone?" I asked. He said they had been sleeping, and he placed a blanket over each of them, but other than that, he hadn't. Luckily, Phoenix was still in Starry Moon, so I called him to come check them out. He said he would be over, and to strip them down into just shirts and diapers. I did as he asked, and about 15 minutes later he came rushing in. He checked each of his nephews one by one, and each of them had a temperature of at least 101.5*F. He checked the sound of their lungs, and checked their throats. When he softly smiled, I got kind of upset. How could he smile when his nephews were sick? "I found the problem, sis. No need to worry, they are just getting their back molars in. Some kids run a fever when they have teeth coming in. I'm surprised you don't remember. They had fevers when they got their first few teeth also," he said. He was right, I had forgotten. Carver and Chase were the worst when they got their first teeth. Connor, however, would whine, but not scream like his brothers. I thanked Phoenix for rushing over, and told him to go back to his mate. Lindy's due date was quickly approaching, and I told him he shouldn't leave her alone for too long. He said that he would be heading back in the morning, that it was getting late, and he didn't want to drive tired. He then said he had already talked to his mate, and she said all was good, so not to rush. I really loved my sister-in-law. She was good for my brother, and she was amazing to the rest of us as well. He hugged me and the three boys goodbye, and left to go to the Starry Moon pack house for a late dinner. I told Damian that we should probably find something to eat as well, but he replied by letting me know that he already had dinner being delivered. He ordered pizzas, salad, garlic knots, and a strawberry cake from the pack kitchen. All my favorites. "I don't want to pretend to understand why you did what you did, Damian. However, I will respect your decision. Thank you for rescuing my brother. How long before Lance shows up here?" I asked. "One week, but it won't be here. It will be at Spirit Mountain, and you will be here, with our boys, where it's safe. I am going to ask you to please not give me grief about this, Alette. I'm stressed out enough, but I am also confident. I know I can beat him, but I have to focus on just him. He is still my baby brother, and this situation sucks. However, I know they will use you to distract me if you are there, so please just stay here for me. Please,"he explained. I wanted so badly to protest, but I couldn't with that reasoning. "Fine, I will stay. One one condition. Luke and/or Ginger will go with you. They can relay what is happening through visions. It will be like I am there, only I won't be. It will make me feel much better about everything," I replied. The look of shock on his face almost made me giggle. "You are actually going to listen and not fight me about it?" he asked. I nodded my head and reminded him about the Luke or Ginger situation. He hugged me tightly, and said he would agree to allow Luke to join him. "See, babe, it's all about compromising. Something I will try to do better at," I smiled.
