Chapter 33: You're Shameless!

1082 Words
Command with his instinct, Chen Lei sprinted over in a lightning speed and spread his arms to catch the woman. He was much prepared to catch her in his arms but was embarrassingly failed as the woman unexpectedly clung her body on the trunk like a Gecko. "What are you doing?" The woman looked down on him with a mocking expression. Chen Lei straightened up and laughed. "Wow wow. Interesting. I never thought you're such an expert when it comes to climbing. But, you're really great. You can do nothing to me and so you did this on purpose. Why not tell me directly that you want me to carry you? You made me look like an i***t wanting to catch air." Geneva rolled her eyes and jumped down. Without sparing another look to the man, she walked towards the ladder, laid it on the wall and climbed up. As she reached the middle, she looked down once more. "Go away. I don't need you here." Chen Lei pursed his lips. "I am just watching here, not poking your ass. Why are you fierce? Oh, you're afraid that I will see the thing I should not see? Woman, come on. I have seen that many times before." "Shut up!" "What? I am just telling the truth." "You're shameless!" The man chuckled provocatively. Geneva shook her head. She looked up and mumbled inwardly, eyes closed. "Geneva, take a deep breath and calm down. Don't waste your time on such a man. He doesn't deserve it." Taking a deep breath once more, Geneva smiled. "I have to do this quickly. I can't be distracted with something else. The kid is important." With that thought in mind, Geneva hurriedly climbed on the ladder. Although she was looking so fragile, she reached the second floor so quickly and she even jumped on the balcony with ease. Chen Lei's jaws moved inside his cheeks upon witnessing her doing such a dangerous thing. Geneva was startled to see the mess inside the room through the transparent window. It was as if a tsunami assaulted the room and destroyed everything inside. The kid was sitting on the edge of the bed. Not doing anything. Only hanging his head low. His back was looking so lifeless. Like a remote doll who lost its battery during playtime. "Darling?" Geneva whispered sympathetically, eyes rounded so wide with tears slowly emerging on its sides. Seems like the duo shared telepathy skills. With only such a low whisper, the kid looked over the window only to see her rooted behind it. Geneva recovered from bewilderment and hurriedly knocked the window, calling him over using her gentlest and warmest tone. "Darling, open the window. Let me in. Let's mom enter your room. Mom is worried for you." The kid blinked his eyes and then rubbed them using his fists. He probably thought he was seeing unreal things. While doing that, Geneva's heart broke as if countless knives pricked in it. Who could not feel such a thing if you watched a usually composed kid looking so pitiful like an ordinary kid rubbing his eyes in order to wipe away his annoying tears. As a woman who was once a mother, such action was heartbreaking, especially with her case. Kid was her weakness. Her soft spot. Geneva wiped away her own tears and knocked continuously. "Open the door, please. Talk to mom. It's hurting me if you're like this." The kid stared at her, spacing out. The woman seemed to understand that the kid thought she was only an illusionary image and so he wouldn't move to let her inside his room. She would not believe he would really ignore her despite what she did— climbing over just to see him. "Darling, this is me. I'm real. I'm Geneva. I am not just your imagination. I am really here standing in front of you. Open the door and talk to mom, I beg you." The kid turned to observe her closely. When he felt what he saw was really real, his wet and reddened eyes lit up. Speaking through his eyes, he somewhat said, "Mom? Is that really you?" Geneva tried hard to read his eyes. Using her six senses, she nodded, knocking. "I'm real. I'm real. Let me in, okay?" The kid dashed over and opened the sliding window. He looked up on her, expressing his thoughts with his eyes again. "Mom, how come you're on my balcony?" Geneva ignored everything else. She hurriedly entered and pulled the kid into her warm embrace. "You kid, you scare me." The woman sobbed, looking so hurt. Geneva let go of the kid and pulled him in the bed, asking him to sit. She crouched in front of him, holding his hands and affectionately looked at him. "Why did you do this? If you have something in your head, say it out loud. Don't just lock up yourself here and scare everyone. This is not good behavior." The kid stared at her, not saying a thing. Geneva let out a deep sigh and then caressed the kid's head. "Darling, are you afraid that I will leave you?" The kid's eyes teared up upon hearing the words leave. He lowered his head and refused to make eye contact with her. Hands on the bed clenched tightly. The woman noticed his small actions. In pity, she pulled him into her embrace once more. "Don't be afraid. I won't leave you. Mom won't leave you." The kid looked up while hugging her tightly. His eyes were the only ones that were communicating to her. "Really?" Geneva nodded, sniffing. "Yes. Of course. I am your mother, remember? How can a mother leave her child alone?" The kid looked down for a moment and looked up once more. The duo stared at each other affectionately without verbal words. By looking at each other's eyes, they could tell how much they adored each other as a mother and son. The kid broke free and took his sketch pad, wrote something and showed it to her, eyes were expectant. "Promise? You won't leave me? I thought you don't want me anymore?" "I–" Geneva sighed. "Darling, don't think too much. Always remember this. Whatever happens in the future, I will always like you. You're my son." He wrote again. "Then why did you say you're quitting? You don't want to stay with me, right?" "That's— that's different." Geneva was lost for words.
