Stomping out of my room, I got a laugh from Cayden as he saw the outfit my mother had left for me to wear. I hated dresses, and today I was being forced to wear one simply because the first of our guests were arriving and I had to look nice. Gah, I hated it. Not only was it Sunday the one day of the week I normally get to sleep in, except for today where I had to be up at the butt c***k of dawn. But I had to wear a damn dress. “You look ridiculous, little sister.” I rolled my eyes at him. “I feel ridiculous.” My mother walked out of the room she shared with my father. “Aww, you look beautiful, Mia. And look at you, Cay, you look so handsome.” She gushed as she took in our outfits. I rolled my eyes again. “Why do I have to wear this? Can’t I just wear nice jeans and a nice shirt like Cay?” She shook her head. “I am sorry, no. You look nice in this. I promise it will be just for today. Your father is already stressing enough with The Steelclaw Pack’s alpha and his son being here. It will help if we can all make a great first impression, and that means you, in a dress for a day.” Sighing, I nodded, “Fine, but for the record, I still think it’s stupid.” Smiling, she nodded, “Noted. Now come on, your father wants us downstairs to greet the two of them with him.” Caydon and I followed behind our mother as she led the way down the stairs. Caydon wrapped an arm around my shoulders. “Yeah, who knows, this guy might be your mate. Wouldn’t want him to not see you like a lady.” Balling my fist, I punched him in the stomach, making him groan as he pulled his arm off my shoulders. I glared at him a moment, then continued on following my mom down the stairs, not waiting for him to recover and follow.
By the time we got outside, joining my father, Lex was pulling up out front in one of the black SUVs the pack uses. He had left to pick the alpha and future alpha up at the airport and was just now returning with them. He stopped right in front where Sander, my father’s third, and Alexander, my mother’s personal bodyguard, were waiting. The two of them opened the two passenger-side doors allowing the alpha and his son to step out of the SUV. Once they were out, the two moved around to the back end, taking their bags and heading up to their assigned rooms with them so they would be there when they got there later. “Alpha Klaus, welcome.” My father held his hand out for the other alpha to shake. He was larger than my dad but only slightly. He was also older, much older than my father, which would give my father the advantage of youth should the two ever fight. His son, that stood next to him, was large as well. He was also younger-looking than how old my father said he was. For nearing twenty-five, he looked to be closer to my own age. He had pitch-black hair and brown eyes that looked mean. His presence alone made me slightly uncomfortable. Or maybe that was because his eyes instantly landed on me and moved over my body as though I was standing in front of him naked. Turning my attention back to my father, I watched as he shook the other alpha’s hand. “Alpha Troy, it is a pleasure to meet you in person finally. Thank you so much for allowing my son and me to arrive so much earlier than everyone else.” My father waved him off, “It is our pleasure to host you. However, I am confused. I thought you were bringing your eldest son and heir?” Alpha Klaus’s jaw clenched slightly with anger, but it only lasted a moment before the guy forced a large smile across his face. “Ah yes, well, I have recently had to promote my younger son Christoff here too, heir. His older brother Asher proved himself unworthy of the position.” Nodding, my father held his hand out for Christoff to shake. “Well, in that case, it is a pleasure to meet you, Christoff.” I watched as Christoff shook my father’s hand while still staring right at me. His stare made me even more uncomfortable every second. “This here is my Luna and mate Zoey, my eldest Cayden, and my daughter Mia.” We all greeted the two. I tried to hold back my repulsion when I had to touch Christoff to shake his hand, and he held it for a few seconds too long. This was going to be a really long week, and I wasn’t looking forward to it.
I did my best to stay as close to my brother as I could the rest of the day. And since he didn’t seem to make that hard to do, I am sure he was not a fan of Christoff’s constant staring at me either. My father insisted on the two of us showing Christoff around while he spoke with Alpha Klaus. After our tour, it was time for dinner and thank the moon goddess. By the end of dinner, Christoff was ready to go to bed. With the jet lag and the long day, he and his father returned early to their rooms, which was completely fine with me. Cayden and I decided to head to our rooms as well. Having spent the whole day entertaining Christoff, we were both kind of tired as well. And besides which tomorrow was Monday which meant not only did we have training with the pack but also training with Lex all before school. As I headed into my room, Cayden caught my arm, stopping me. “Lock your door tonight.” I nodded in agreement. I never locked my door. There was no need to. No one here meant any harm to me. But like me, Cayden got a bad feeling about Christoff, and I wouldn’t put it past him to do something unpleasant. Cayden even waited in the hall until I had locked the door before he himself went into his own room across the hall. I didn’t hear him shut the door all the way, and I am sure he hadn’t. I am sure he left it open a bit so he would hear if anyone came to my door in the middle of the night. Moving to my closet, I wasted no time in removing the dress my mother had me wear for the day and throwing it as far into the recesses of my closet as possible in hopes it was never found again. I pulled on a large t-shirt and some shorts and headed to bed. It didn’t take me long to fall asleep. It wasn’t the best sleep I had ever had, but it was enough to feel somewhat rested when my alarm went off at four in the morning.
Climbing from the bed, I pulled on a pair of leggings and a sports bra, and a tank top along with my tennis shoes. I waited for Cayden to knock on my door before opening it and heading out. There was no way in hell I was going anywhere alone for the next week. My gut told me to stay as far away from Christoff as I could, and I intended to do so. I was just glad Cayden seemed to have the same idea even though I hadn’t said anything out loud. For the next hour, I was hoping to forget about Christoff though and immerse myself in training. That, unfortunately, didn’t happen when Lex instructed everyone to run four miles through the woods before today’s session was over. Well over for the rest of the pack. Cayden and I still had more to do. During training, Cayden hadn't stayed glued to my hip. He was never far away, but he was far enough away that Christoff could catch me off guard, stepping out of the tree line onto the path we were taking. He cut me off. Everyone else continued on around us. Only a few slowed but only for a second. Each of them sped back up when Christoff glared at them. I tried to step around him, but he moved into my way again, stopping me. “Is there something I can help you with, Christoff?” A large smile spread across his face, “Yes, but I have promised to wait until we have been mated first. I simply wanted to tell you that there will be no need for you to train any longer. Once you have become my Luna, your job will be only to raise our pups.” I scoffed, “You seem so sure I am your mate.” He shrugged, “You are, of course, not my true mate. I already know that, but you are of perfect stock. The two of us will make the perfect pups.” Again I scoffed, “If you are not my true mate, then I hate to break it to you, but I will not be having your pups.” I moved to step around him again, but he grabbed my arm, stopping me with a low growl rolling through him. Not going to lie. It scared the s**t out of me, but I wasn’t one to cower that easily. I stood my ground, turning my head and looking him right in the eye. This only seemed to piss him off more as he growled louder. “True mate or not, you will be mine. My father is already speaking with yours and working out a deal.” Narrowing my eyes at him, I let my own growl roll through my chest. “Well, until the day my father tells me otherwise, I will continue to pray to the moon goddess that my true mate shows up.” Using all my strength, I yanked my arm out of his grasp and moved past him catching up with everyone else as quickly as I could. Cayden caught up with me as I reached the halfway mark getting back. He was running in the wrong direction, telling me he had turned around when I hadn’t made it back in my normal time. “You ok?” I nodded as he turned and matched his pace with me. “Christoff informed me that even though we are not true mates, his father is insuring the two of us will be mated to each other, and well, because of that, there is no need for me to train any longer. I will only be used to raise our pups anyway.” A deep growl rolled through him. “I don’t like that guy. I will be glad when he and his father leave.” I nodded, “Agreed.” The two of us sped up so we could finish this run and get to the gym and hit something. That, something would be each other, but it would work out our anger before going to school. Today Lex was there watching the whole session giving us pointers and making sure we didn’t kill each other. Cayden and I were evenly matched when it came to strength. It was not normal for a daughter of an alpha to be so strong, let alone take on his eldest and heir. But the two of us went back and forth on who would win our sparring rounds. We were tied so far. He would win one. I would win one, and so forth. Today I won our first round, and he won our second round before Lex called it, ending today's session and sending us to get changed and head off to school. It was our last year of school, and we were down to only a couple more days as it was. By our birthday this weekend, we will already be done with our senior year of high school and ready to start being adults.
