7 After leaving City Hall, Bennett drove the short distance back to the inn. He’d never imagined that this grand dame of a home would someday be his residence. It was Ivy’s property, and he made no claim on it, although he was as attentive as she was to its need for repairs and maintenance. The old house gave him a chance to keep his tools in use, he told himself with a chuckle as he parked and eased from his SUV. Still, it would be nice for them to have their privacy—Ivy could be called away at any moment for a clogged drain or a tripped electrical circuit breaker.
