8 Sparks flew into the air as the small aircraft bumped along broken concrete overgrown with weeds. Ivy pulled up, watching. With her adrenaline pumping, she clutched Bennett’s arm. “What is this place?” “It’s the old airfield. Hasn’t been used in decades.” She’d heard people talk about the airfield in town, but she had never seen it behind the dunes and overgrowth. Surprised it was so close, she’d also expected more, but a place like this was easy to overlook. Her heart was racing, and she prayed that whoever was on board would make it out safely.
