Chapter 12 - Fighting is the Only Option

576 Words
Mandy turned her head towards Laila. “Are you sure?”     “Yes. I have maintained my quiet about my father’s death for so long and my guilt has been haunting me. I cannot continue living like this, Mandy. I have to do something to give justice to my father’s death.”     Mandy stared at Laila. She looks really serious about this.       “What if this case is not really related to your father’s death? What if it’s just your wild guess that they are connected?” Mandy thought that Laila has to face this possibility regardless of how painful it is.     “Then I will search for the real culprit. At least I can start somewhere for now.” Laila looks determined.     “Ok. Then I will fight with you, Laila.” Mandy assured her bestfriend.     Laila’s eyes moistened.     “I’m sorry for being a coward. I never had the courage to face this issue regarding my dad. It was just now that I regained my strength to look into his death closely.”     Mandy approached Laila and gave her a hug.     “We all have our painful stories, Laila. Mine is yet to be uncovered. I haven’t regained my memories yet since 7 years old.”     Upon hearing this, Laila cried. It’s true, Mandy never knew who she was since Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs adopted her. Compared with her, she is better situated. At least she knew her real father before he died. For Mandy, it is not sure if she will meet her real parents in this lifetime. God would be great if He allows her to remember who she is while her biological parents are still alive.     “Thank you for choosing to continue this battle with me. I will fight with you and for you, Laila. Don’t forget that.”     Laila cried more after hearing this. The bestfriends stayed in this position for quite a while before parting.     Laila felt stronger than before. When she went home that night, she was amazed that the pain that she had been feeling about his father’s death is just gone when she went up that attic where her father’s memories are stored again. It’s amazing how her decision to continue the fight changed everything. She’s sure that she can live anew with this kind of life. Unlike before, she’s sure that she will wake up every day without guilt in her heart.     “Dad, I’m sorry that it took me so long before deciding to fight,” she whispered to herself before sleeping that night.     Later, her dad appeared in her dreams. He was all healthy and well. In her dream, her dad was in a quiet lake, waiting for someone. Laila called his name but he seems not to hear her.      “Dad, dad!” Laila kept shouting.     Still, his dad is not looking at her. Laila attempted to go near him. She ran and ran but she still cannot go near him. Then suddenly, a woman is approaching him.     Who is she? Laila asked herself. Then she stopped upon realizing that the woman looks familiar. Yes, her back looks familiar. Slowly, the woman turned to her. She was shocked when she looked at her face and realized who she was. Clara Kaspersqy?
