"Love comes from the most unexpected places." (Barbra Streisand)

It was all a case for Mandy at first. When her client came in to seek for her help in winning the case and attaining justice for his brother, she took it without a second thought. She can fight this and win at all cost. Little did she realize that the case is one of the most taunting murder cases that has ever happened in Country H, and it has never been solved even after so many years.

In her dedication to her job, she did all that she can to win the case, even pretending to be the lost daughter of the murdered family to get close to her enemy, the father of the most powerful man in Country H, President Bill Grande. Like a moth playing near the fire, she went closer and closer to President Bill until it was too late for her to realize that she has fallen completely in love with him.

Torn between love and justice, what will she choose? Will she yield to her feelings and live with the man she loves or attain justice for his client and lose the only man who made her heart beat for the first time in forever?

Prologue
Eeeeeeeeee! Sirens are sounding loud and clear. Police cars surrounded the compound. All around the five-storey house of the Vice-President of Country H is the police line tape shining in the dark with the sign ‘Police Line Do Not Cross.’ Policemen, investigators and reporters are all over the place looking for signs of possible suspects and witnesses of the crime. Yes, Vice-President Morris Parker and his family were murdered that night. The reason? Unknown. “Good evening. This is Clara reporting for XRN News. Nine dead bodies were found in the house of Vice-President Morris Parker at 8 P.M. tonight. The Vice-President, his wife, his son, the family driver, the gardener, 2 maids and 2 security guards’ bodies are all drenched in blood when the policemen entered the crime scene. At my back, you can see the draped bodies of the victims of the crime. While all are wondering about the motive behind the crime, authorities conducting the investigation are questioning where the body of Vice-President Morris’ five-year old daughter is. Up to this hour, she’s not yet found. Stay tuned for more updates.” Clara Kaspersqy breathed heavily as she ended her live report. Among all news reports, this kind of scene is the most difficult to cover. “Police Detective Norton, have we any leads yet as to the whereabouts of the five-year old kid?” Clara asked as she spotted the officer passing by her. “Nah. Up to now, she is nowhere to be seen. We’ve searched in the basement, in the attic and in her room and all we found is a shoe that has been left just outside her bedroom door. Her blanket is not in order, but her room is the only place in the house where blood is not around.” Police Detective Alex Norton explained. “Thank you officer.” Clara replied. Alex gave Clara a nod as he walked past her. He is bound to the gate to meet the Vice-President’s nearest kin, Doctor Marlon Parker. Doctor Marlon looked shocked as Alex approached him. His face is so pale as if all his blood is drained. His right hand is trembling and is being held by a policeman as if he just collapsed upon seeing the entire scenario of his brother’s house. “Doctor Marlon, I am Police Detective Alex Norton, the officer in-charge to investigate this case,” Alex introduced himself to the young doctor. “We have checked the entire house. We found nine bodies in all including your brother’s, Vice-President Morris Parker.” At the mention of his brother’s name, Doctor Marlon lost his strength and collapsed on the ground. He could have fallen if not for Alex and the other policeman holding his hand. He wept bitterly. Tears are streaming down his face uncontrollably. But he was silent. Yes, he was silently crying. After ten minutes, he said in a weak voice, “I want to see my brother.” Alex and the other policeman helped him to stand straight and then led him to the place where the bodies are laid. Slowly, Alex removed the drape covering the face of the Vice-President. Doctor Marlon sobbed at the sight of his older brother’s face. For a long time, he stared at him, his eyes full of pain and agony. Then his eyes became a mirror of hatred and vengeance.
