Chapter 4. Exposing himself

1901 Words
President Lincoln was gone. ****** I walked up a stairwell. One hour had passed since Lincoln's disappearance, and I had no idea where he went or if anything had happened at that time. I was frankly aggravated toward him for being so dominant; just because he was the president doesn't mean he should always be a tyrant. While walking in the middle of the hallway, I noticed the board above the wooden door—Covenant hall. I took a deep breath and decided to step inside. It was dim, but I got used to it after praising the wolf moon sculpture in the dark for ten years. I'd look and examine my surroundings. There are a bunch of bookshelves, but nobody's around. The lights in the ceiling here were faintly brown and red, alternating. I see plenty of tables with kerosene lamps around and many doors. I strode straight and swerved toward the last entry. The interior of this room is large, immaculate, and nicely decorated with a candle-lit wine cellar. I'm used to the strange surroundings, so it doesn't bother me anymore. I was about to take more steps, but I heard the next thing that stopped me. "Accasia Sterling? Turn around if I'm right, but if I'm wrong, get out." I was a bit uneasy, so I spun. I saw a woman wearing a long black blazer, a white professional top, and black pants. With her mesmerizing looks, she is both fascinating and intimidating. I think she's around 30's. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Accasia Sterling. We've been waiting for you to come back, and now the time has come; we will reunite," she said with a glimmer of joy. "I'm glad to introduce myself to you, and I'm Yve Seriya, the Prime Minister of Agreleia Academy." Slowly, I bowed my head as an indication of respect. "Glad to meet you, Prime Minister." The moment I introduced myself to the Prime Minister, she explained everything, and I honestly felt weird to learn something unbelievable from someone you only met for a short time. She informed me I have a duty that is ought to accomplish and, at the same time, things I must avoid to preserve my life. "The monster's name was Fledgo, the great Almighty who was the Lord of Siduxio Vampire, his clan. An invisible dark spirit who only reveals himself whenever someone summons him to ask for something. He had made the tunnels that ran beneath El Cantaria. Sick with soul, he ate up flesh and drank human blood. He kept searching for something that would satisfy his hunger until he found out that only one creature would meet his desire. Eventually, his clan made a choice, and they were determined to roam the world. They will never cease killing unless they find the creature that will fulfill the needs of the Lord." I was literally in stunned silence for a minute after hearing the last part of the story. “The enemy?” “Precisely,” she replied. “But the greatest one.” “So, there’s more?” She nodded. “The Glum Blood Pack. They are all evil. One of their main goals is to wreck this Academy, our realm, and to slay all the hybrid creatures… including you, Accasia.” Those words made me wordless, as if they impacted the whole atom of my being. I couldn’t help but feel dread about my life. This means my life here is in peril. "May I hear your last word?" she requested, apparently waiting for my answer. I am determining what appropriate comments and reactions I should express. If there is one word I could articulate to convey my feelings right now, that would be ignorance. And yes, I am. But I knew I came here for profound purposes to develop myself as a hybrid and uncover the truth. Therefore, no time shall waste on nothing. "Hello? Are you still with me?" she repeated, bringing me back into reality. "Oh, yeah." She grinned. "Care to state your remarks?" I stared at her blankly for a second before I spoke. "Honestly, I don't know why most of you here keep exposing everything. I have never witnessed the past and the undefinable things in my whole life. Could you tell me what to do so I can finally proceed to make plans?" I knew my words were futile, and it looked like eagerness. But I don't care. Her eyes shifted away. Slowly shaking her head and said, "Such a narrow mind you have. Pardon me, but you haven't even started dying to know the truth yet." "But I knew who I am, although never have I seen it in my life." "Exactly. That's why you have to wait for more." "Okay. Just tell me who I am. My transformation and also the power. I can't wait to bring down the El Cantaria." "Why are you so eager to do that?" she asked, obviously curious. I'm not eager to do that. I'm too naive for this life and want to go home. The Prime Minister strode toward me and smiled; the benevolent, lenient smile made me want to scream for an indescribable reason. "It takes a lot of time to release the power within you, Accasia. You can only prevail over the war in our world if you have control. The amount of energy you use, the surge of power and strength, and the endless hope. That's the cycle of patience." Suddenly, I was confused and shuddered as if Prime Minister could read my thoughts. She pressed a hand to my shoulder. Her fingers were long, splaying over my right arm like a scolopendra subspecies. It feels like every touch she makes possesses electricity buzzing inside me. If the gesture was meant to comfort me, it failed because it was contrary to her assumption. "Patience, Accasia Sterling. As time goes by, your power will accumulate." I sighed. "Thank you for letting me know, Prime Minister. I'll take your word for it." "Very well," she said with a smile. "Beneditos, you know what to do." Suddenly, the guards went straight over to me. They were dressed in brown and wore the blood spiral. As far as I know, it is a symbol of a half-vampire and half-werewolf. The guards trailed me outside and everywhere, but they never looked directly at me, never spoke to me until they sent me to a room. ***** Four days had passed since the day I went here to Agreleia Academy. Entertaining people is difficult for me because I have never done it. I became more introvertish as I internalized every day. Part of my daily routine was deep cleaning my room, studying every night, and abiding by the fundamentals of the commandments. So it was normal unless President Lincoln was around. These past couple of days, we've been arguing every time we see each other in the hallway. I was utterly disappointed by him, maybe because I was expecting him to be a role model for everyone, but it was contrary to my expectation. While occupied doing my task, someone knocked at the door. Soon as I opened it, I saw a man standing alone. "Who are you?" I asked. "Ms. Sterling, someone outside wants to see you," he said, providing enough space to see the person nearby. President Lincoln? He strode toward me while the guard immediately walked away. "What brings you here?" I frowned. And again, our previous quarrel emerged in my mind, but I quickly dismissed it. "Aren't you going to greet me, Accasia Sterling?" "Was it mandated?" "That was very impolite of you." a small pinch of chuckle tugged at his face. "I think it would be better if we talk inside. Would you let me in?" "It's already evening. Can we talk tomorrow morning? I have a lot of stuff to do now." "How dare you ignore the President?" he had a smug expression. His words and reaction prompted me to let him in. I had no choice. He walked inside and went straight to my table. But that was just a quick observation. He strode right next to me, and I felt a subtle breeze on my face. I couldn't admit it, but President Lincoln had a look that could make any woman fall in love, excluding me. He turned to me with a sincere look. "I just went here to say sorry for being rude to you since your first day here." My eyes stared at him with puzzlement. I wanted to know if this was for real. "Let's say—I was thinking about you all day." he seemed so heartfelt, but I couldn't believe his words. Silence prevailed over us until his gaze diverted to me. "Stop the act, President Lincoln. I have no time for this." He shook his head and said, "You were in my dream last night." "So what?" "You are my mate, Amber." His words coerced me to shut my eyes, trying to absorb his nonsensical remarks. I was about to speak, but then he grabbed the chance first. "I'm so eager to have you on my side. You are Amber, my mate. I've searched for you for a decade, but it always failed. Now that I found you, I couldn't let anyone separate us." I shook my head in disbelief, chuckling a little before looking up at him and quirking a brow. "You drunk? I'm not Amber. I am Accasia. You seem like you have something on your mind." He held my face between his hands, and I scarcely felt tenderness by his looks. I hate to admit it, but this was the first time I felt that way. "If only I knew you were my mate, I wouldn't treat you like that." "President Lincoln, I don't want to offend you, but please stop, will you? I have no time for this. If you feel guilty, you can apologize but not this way." He didn't listen; instead, he took the ring out of his pocket and wore it to my middle finger in my right hand. For a split second, there was a red light sprouted around me. And that's when I felt a sudden strange inside me. I groaned as I felt a surge of flame in my whole body as if I was going to explode. "P-president Lincoln... w-what is h-happening?!" I'm striving hard to scream, restraining the force controlling me now. Unfortunately, he didn't respond. He didn't even bother to help me until I saw myself slowly shifting into a full-flesh red wolf. I couldn't believe this. I really couldn't. After a fleeting moment of surveying myself, my physical form automatically returned to the human body. I was already lying naked on the floor. Completely weak. President Lincoln knelt in front of me with one hand on my waist and the other behind my neck. He lifted my head and lowered his lips to mine. I closed my eyes and melted as that delicate kiss devoured my whole body. By the time our lips departed, my body had become so heavy then fragmented memories had appeared in my head. It was a white wolf that shifted into a drop-dead handsome and broad-shouldered man. He kissed me passionately under the wolf moonlight. And before I lost consciousness, I was flabbergasted to recognize who it was.
