Ch.20 Elizabeth
The next morning I woke up with the sun hitting my face and the fire almost gone. I could feel Tristan behind me holding onto me tightly. I was about to say something when I felt him stiffen.
“Someone’s here.” He said getting up in a flash and putting on his pants and headed out the door. I quickly got up making my self dizzy, and quickly dressed.
“There you are! We were worried about you.” I could hear Justin voice. Relief swept over me it was just his men. “Well, c’mon let’s go your mom’s worried sick about you. Where’s Elizabeth?”
I could hear Tristan growl at Justin. “Relax I was just trying to get you two home.” Justin laughed, unfazed by his friend. I quickly finished getting ready just as Tristan came back and noticed he was still shirtless. I couldn’t bring myself to say anything to him and simply went around him and out of the cottage. I did notice the scratches all along his back and felt my cheeks flush.
“Good morning to you.” Justin said a teasing tone in his voice.
“Shut up.” I said making my way to the SUV he had brought.
“Well then, you two are in a mood.” He said cheerfully. I sat in the back seat and waited for them to join.
The SUV instantly filled with Tristan scent as he came in and I tried to keep my eyes focused on the road. Last night had been a mistake… a wonderful mistake…but a mistake none the less and I knew Tristan was probably hating my guts at this moment.
I closed my eyes as a splitting headache took over and focused on trying to ease the pain. Soon Tristan had opened my door and we were back at the castle. He offered me his hand, but I couldn’t bring myself to look at him let alone touch him. The three of us made our way inside where Tristan was almost bum rushed by Vivian. His sister and mom were also there waiting for us.
“Oh thank goodness my love I have been worried sick. I am so glad you’re ok!” She gushed.
I knew I wouldn’t be able to take much more of this.
“I have marvelous news and I think everyone should hear!” She said loudly and clung onto to Tristan.
“I’m pregnant!” She squealed.
As her words settled in the room started spinning and I felt my blood run ice cold. My knees started to get weak and I felt as though I would collapse. Luckily Justin was at my side in an instant and helped me stay up.
“Congratulations.” I managed to say and made my way to the stairs, that seemed impossible to climb. I felt weak and my stomach was in knots. Justin helped me climb the stairs but all I could do was focus on not collapsing. As we entered the room I felt a wave a nausea hit me and rushed to the bathroom emptying my stomach out till it ached.
“Elizabeth are you ok? Should I get someone?” Justin asked worry in his voice.
“No!” I said trying to get back up to clean myself off. I was finally able to get up and go back into my room.
“Are you ok?” Justin asked as a sudden pain in my head made everything go black.
-Tristan-
I was still trying to process the news that Vivian had given me but all I think about was the pained look Elizabeth had given me.
What was wrong with me even with the news of my child all I could do was think about Elizabeth. She had rushed out of there with Justin at her side. I knew that he saw her as a sister, but I couldn’t help but get worked up anytime I saw her with someone else.
Just as I was trying to get my thoughts in order, Justin’s thoughts interrupted my own.
Tristan…Its Elizabeth she’s sick. His words had me up in an instant and rushing to her room.
“What happened?” I asked taking in the site of everything. Kenna and Allison were by Elizabeth who was on her bed but I couldn’t get a good view of her.
“I’m not sure she just passed out once I brought her to the room. Allison is running test but so far we don’t know what happened.” Justin said.
“Allison.” I called her over.
“She has a really high fever that I am trying to bring down. She hasn’t woken up so I don’t know what exactly is happening with her. I am running labs and waiting for the results. I am going to check on them now.” She said efficiently.
Take Kenna. I told Justin and he promptly went to Kenna and the two left the room.
I headed over to Elizabeth’s side and took her hand in mine as I sat on the edge of her bed. Her hand was burning up.
I heard the door open and stiffened as I instantly knew that who it was.
“Tristan…What are you doing here?” Vivian asked, hurt all over her voice.
“I came to make sure she was ok.” I said not able to lie to her anymore.
“Well, it seems like there is nothing you can do. Allison is getting her test results. C’mon let’s go get some lunch.” She said coming over to my side.
“You go ahead.” I said keeping my focus on Elizabeth. Her pretty face was flushed with the fever.
“Tristan…” She began but the door opened again.
“Vivian. Sarah is looking for you she needs to go over some details for your shower. You should go find her. I need a moment with my son.” My mothers voice was stern leaving no question that this was not a request.
“Yes, Mother Luna.” Vivian said leaving the room. I felt my mother come over next to me.
“Oh, my son. You can no longer do this. This news changes everything.” I could hear the sad tone in her voice.
“Mom…I can’t. I can’t let her go.” I said looking up at my mom.
“You have to. You have a child coming now. You made careless decisions that have left you with only one option. You are responsible for Vivian.” She said using her stern mother voice. She was right, but how could I leave her, especially now when she was sick. Somehow, I knew this was my doing too.
“I need more time with her.” I said ashamed of myself. My mother was right how could I have been so foolish.
“Allison says she will be fine…it seems like she has been under too much stress and its taken its toll. I am taking over her care and once she is better she will be leaving.”
“What?! Why did Allison not report back to me, and what do you mean she’s leaving?” How could she just want to put her out like that.
“Because I instructed Allison to report to me directly. Elizabeth’s been planning on leaving for weeks now. She was hiding it from you.” My mother informed me. I knew that she wasn’t trying to hurt me, but I couldn’t help that way. And how could she just go around me with Allison.
“She won’t be safe out there.” I protested.
“That is not your concern now. I will make sure she is taken care, you will no longer be involved. I don’t know why the goddess chose to give you such a cruel predicament, but this is what must be done my son.” She said placing her hand on my shoulder. I couldn’t pull my gaze from Elizabeth though.
It was all too much, the thought of Elizabeth leaving was making me feel breathless as if I couldn’t catch my breath. My mother was right I had to take responsibility for my actions but that didn’t mean that Elizabeth had to leave.
“No mother she is not going anywhere.” I said making up my mind. The thought of losing her was all too much to bear.
“Tristan! You can’t keep here as a hostage. She wants to leave.” My mother said sternly.
“I said she is not going anywhere.” I answered with a growl.
“Tristan, you are hurting her. Can’t you see? She’s in love with you and it’s killing her to see you with Vivian, and now you are about to have a child with her.” My mother said gently. My breath caught at her words. How could I have been so blind of course I was the one causing her all this pain. I was being so selfish, but the thought of letting her go was ripping me apart[a1] [a2] . I knew what I had to do, I couldn’t be the reason she was unhappy and hurting, I would let her go even if it killed me.
“Very well. She’s free to go.” I said lifelessly.
