“I promised him to take care of you.” “You promised my father that you would take care of me?” Diana asked and Adrian simply bobbed his head in agreement. “When was this again?” she asked, having lost complete track of time and feeling lost, trying to decode what just Adrian told her. Adrian on the other hand simply shrugged back at her. “When he was training me. One day, he just sat me down and told me that if I ever felt like repaying him for being so nice to me and guiding me thoroughly, after he believed that I would become the CEO, he just told me that I should repay him by looking after you. I guess, he knew that his life was short already because he only had one kidney and he donated the other to…” “Your grandfather.” Diana added, remembering the time when she was eight and her father underwent a surgery, donating his kidney to Adrian’s grandfather, who was already quite old and his condition was feeble and the surgery only allowed me four more years to live but in those next four years, the old man was very kind towards her father and his entire family. “Yes! You remember it?” Adrian asked, amazed that Diana had not gone down the spiral of hating him and his entire family yet. Diana simply nodded back at him. “Of course I do. Percy was actually the only man in the entire family, who was ever kind to me. In fact, he is only one of the few people that has ever been kind to me.” Diana shrugged and Adrian c****d, finding her statement to be a little intriguing. So far, interacting with his aunt, had given Adrian the idea that the woman was not the kindest towards Diana. In fact, she was quite the lustrous woman, who liked to keep the attention to herself and also was quite greedy for money. So, it could be possible that Diana might not be on the best of the terms with her aunt and if that was the case than it would be easier for Adrian to take Diana back to New York, since she wouldn’t have many reasons to stay back in Los Angeles. Sensing the calm in Diana’s tone and seeing how she was having a moment of remembrance for his grandfather, Adrian decided to make a move, to remind him about the kindness of his family, so that Diana would be moved and at least begin thinking about going to New York with him. “Well… I am sorry for not being there for you. life happens and…” “I didn’t expect you to be there for me.” Diana spoke up, cutting Adrian in the middle of his sentence and taking him entirely by surprise. “Huh? What do you mean?” “I mean… we were never friends and your grandfather was the only person who was ever nice to me. And if I remember his kindness, I also remember the rudeness of the rest of your family and…” Diana took a pause, feeling a pang of pain hitting her heart, as she began remembering how cruel the entire Sarmiento family, including her own father and step mother were towards her and the moment, the real reason for her to move to Los Angeles, flashed in front of her eyes, she closed her eyes shut and took in a deep breath, calming her nerves down and not loosing her cool, that she felt slipping away from her because of Adrian’s presence and the remembrance of the past. “Listen Adrian! Congratulations on achieving your dreams and I don’t know how I really feel about this visit of yours because all of this is too much for me to process at the moment and I just know that whatever you are thinking is something that you will regret in the future. You may be overwhelmed by a lot of things and…” “Maybe you are right.” Adrian cut her off, sliding more towards her and getting closer with each and every move. He could sense Diana’s tone and it was that of someone, who was preparing a speech of farewell and Adrian did not come to Los Angeles to go back empty handed, losing his years of hard work to something that was a miscellaneous variable in his success.. “Your father was the first and the only person who ever trusted in me…” “Only? Don’t you think you are taking it a bit far? I mean, you had your Mom, who was always there for you. she was the one who asked my Dad to train you and what about all those stupid friends of yours from High school! They cheered for you to defeat your cousin and become the CEO and they have been doing all of that for so long. And they trusted you so much that they would even schedule parties and meetups only when you would not be taking sessions from Dad and…” Irritated Adrian took a deep breath and held his hand up, stopping Diana from speaking up any further. “Okay! I get your point. You know my life very well…” “Knew!” Diana immediately corrected him and Adrian bit his tongue inside his mouth, riveting at the present and missing the past, when Diana would melt right in front of him even when he would just spare a single glance at her. He always acted like he didn’t know about his feelings and ignored her entire existence but things had become the polar opposite. He cared about her feelings towards him because his entire future depended on them and Diana on the other hand, gave him the quintessential reality of life, that she had moved on. Helpless, Adrian leaned forward and grabbed Diana’s hand, something in the past that would make her go entirely crazy. Diana’s eyes bulged out at Adrian’s bold move and at the same time, she heard a loud collective gasp coming right behind her, which was heard by Adrian as well and the two immediately snapped their necks and turned around, only to find salon’s entire staff, including some clients, who were regular and were stuck inside that place, suddenly involved in the entire drama. All of those people, stuck to the glass walls of the salon, gawked at Diana and Adrian with their eyes wide, with Emily standing in the very middle, having picked the clear side of the wall that did not have the paint stickers with the salon’s logo and name, booking herself a clear view of the two. She squinted her eyes firmly, as she looked through the glass window and straight at Diana and then shifted her eyes down towards her hand that was enclosed in both of Adrian’s palms. Diana’s heart beat erratically, not knowing what was the exact reason. Was it Adrian’s touch, that still held the electrifying touch on her, or the fact that her entire salon had caught an unknown and a mysteriously intriguing man, grabbing her hand like a lover. ----------------------------------------------- Welps!
