51. What Is More Important?

“Chloe? What happened? Why are you crying?”
Adrian asked, gently touching her cheeks and she also looked up at him and batted her eyelashes that were thick and smeared with heavy tears.
She sniffed her cries and tried her very best to gain control over her emotions but couldn’t help and only cried harder.
“You hate me.”
She stated, as she began crying harder and Adrian couldn’t help but feel a sense of guilt envelope his heart.
“What?”
He questioned in a state of total shock.
“I don’t… I don’t hat you.”
He commented, trying to control the damage but Chloe only cried harder as she perched down on the nearest bench and submerged her face in between her palms, as she cried harder with every passed second.
“Chloe… please… please stop crying…”
He stated, as he went on to go near her and patted her back but she only snapped at him and pulled herself back and away from him.
“No! why do you care if I care or not? You hate me.” She argued back, sobbed out and loud and yelling on the top of her lungs.
“Please… Chloe calm down.”
Adrian perched low next to her and patted her thigh this time, feeling highly anxious and scared that the volume with which Chloe spoke, might attract attention of someone around the house.
Even though the gym walls were highly insulated and it was near to impossible for anyone outside the four boundaries of the room, to hear anything at all. But the manner with which Chloe yelled, made Adrian nervous and scared.
“Why? Why should I not yell?”
She cried, screaming even more loudly.
“Because someone might hear you.”
Adrian commented, making Chloe look up at him and throw daggers with her gaze.
“Why do you care? Why do you care about anything at all? You don’t love me. So, why are you acting like you care? Why do you hate me so much?”
Chloe cried loudly, breaking down in loud sobs and Adrian only sighed in defeat, as he shook his head and moved his hands around Chloe, pulling her in a brace and hugged her tightly.
“Okay! First calm down and then tell me why you are crying.”
Chloe looked up at Adrian and sniffed her tears away, whipping them off with the back of her hand and finally controlled, a little bit too quickly though, but she did control her cries and yells.
“Do you really care if I cry?”
She asked and Adrian nodded back at her with assurance.
“Yes! Of course, I do care if you care.”
“Why? Why do you care?” she inquired and Adrian sighed, as he only pulled himself back a little from Chloe but she felt alarmed, as she immediately held on to his arms but he smiled and gently squeezed her hand over his arm, reassuring her that he wasn’t going anywhere.
Instead, he pulled Chloe off her seat and sat down himself. And once he was seated, he pulled her down and placed her over on his lap.
Chloe felt relaxed and in power, that her little trick of shedding tears in front of Adrian worked.
She immediately bent her neck and placed her head in to the crock of Adrian’s neck, wrapping her arms around him and he also felt at peace somehow.
Moments ago, when he had went through a rush of feelings, he felt that he had admitted a grave mistake and that all was lost but the moment Chloe rested her head over on his shoulder, he felt at ease and at rest.
He felt that perhaps, maybe not all was lost and if he had Chloe with him, he would feel a sense of love in his heart.
And besides, who would be stupid enough to let go of a girl like Chloe.
Of course, what Adrian felt with Diana was special and dear to him but what Chloe knew in bed and what she was able to do, was something that drove every man insane.
Adrian also hugged Chloe back and kept his hold on her firm and tight.
“I am sorry for trying to hang out with your cousins only to irritate you.’
She admitted, as she rested the side of her face on Adrian’s shoulder and he also ran a hand through her hair.
“I am also sorry for everything…”
He stated, not knowing what exact part was he supposed to be sorry for but he realized that it wasn’t Diana that he was feeling guilty for but in fact, it was for Chloe.
He had just broken up with her and his initial plan was to use Diana only to make Chloe feel jealous. He didn’t know when and how he ended up crossing all limits with her but it was after the moment he kissed her. he lost all control and ended up…
“Hey! Adrian… where are you lost?”
Chloe snapped her fingers in front of Adrian’s face, snapping him out of his daze.
“Yes?”
He immediately diverted his attention back at the girl that he knew was perfect for her.
Diana was indeed just a distraction and a little block that he used to get back at Chloe and snapping her back to how she used to be with Adrian and it worked perfectly well.
Chloe was from a very rich and influential family. Her father ran one of the biggest oil industries in the country and thence, she was crucial and necessary for Adrian, if he wished to become the CEO of the Sarmiento Corporations.
There was no way, someone like Diana would be a perfect fit.
He took a moment and contemplated; What was more important to him?
His position in the family business - was the first and foremost answer that popped in his mind.
And his position would only be achievable if he kept Chloe closer to him. He thought that she was important for his future course of actions.
Chloe was his ultimate goal and even if he did end up crossing a limit with Diana, he wasn’t going to let that impact his relationship with Chloe and he was going to do everything to hold on to her, even if it meant ignoring Diana or getting rid of her for good.
