Joby arrived in Lompoc amid a cloud of complications that left her feeling more frustrated than ever. The Lompoc police chief told her, politely but firmly, that the Code T authorization was only for Dekker; no matter how important she was within the TIA, she would have to get a separate authorization for herself if she wanted him to turn over his facilities to her. After the warning she‘d drawn from Glazer about her first misuse of such an authorization, Joby was reluctant to phone back to Karl Junger and ask for a second one. Morgan Dekker, she was told, was somewhere at the spaceport, but locating him was next to impossible, so she could not use his authorization.
