When Joby returned to TIA Headquarters in New York, it was in ignominious defeat. She had risked not only the good name of her department, but also her personal reputation, in the gamble to recapture Alain Cheney without help from the more experienced Internal Security department, and she had failed—miserably. What was worse, she was sure the story of what happened to her would be all over the building long before she set foot in it again.
