Ruby`s POV
“Your majesty I don’t mean to be rude, but you want me…to go into a place filled with those awful Dragons? That is a Death Trap!” I replied almost spluttering after hearing what she wanted me to do.
“Why not, you are easy to mistake as a dragon, same eyes, and those same round ears. Plus, you have the power to become invisible and fade out of sight. They would never know you were even there spying on them.” The Elf Queen replied with a confident tone in her voice, trying to show me how much she believed I could do it.
“Mother I agree with Ruby. This is dangerous. As soon as they realize she is not one of their own or catch her, she will be dead.” Dakith quickly said with the same concern as mine.
“That’s where the superspeed will come in, she can just be gone before they catch her,” The Queen countered back.
“But mother this is too risky and her life will be on the line!” Dakith continued, trying to protect me. I was now just standing there as mother and son had their quarreling debate.
“Son right now you need to act like the crown prince which you are. Instead of letting your shortly timed feelings for the girl get in the way. “As soon as the Elf Queen delivered that blow, I was a bit stunned to see Dakith stuttering to come up with a comeback reply.
There was even now some red on his pale white cheeks and him avoiding my curious gaze too.
Did that mean that he liked me? We had only just met though. I inwardly wondered.
“I know I am being selfish in wanting to put the earthling`s life on the line. But its because I am desperate! We suffered so much loss in the previous battle. And if another is to happen soon. I am afraid that…we will not survive. “The Elf Queen sullenly continued, causing Dakith to now sympathize with her.
He knew that one day it would be him. Carrying the weight of the whole elven Kingdom on his shoulders.
“So, I beg you, Ruby of earth, from the bottom of my heart. I know this world is not your own. And our war has nothing to do with you.” The Elf Queen first said now coming and gently holding both my hands into hers.
“But Please do this for us. Do this for my people. Do it so that I do not have to face my people. Every time, just to tell them of the loved ones they have lost in this war. Do it so we can finally win and end it all.” She said looking to be on the verge of tears from desperation.
As she said this to me, visions flashed in my mind of all the guilt I had felt back home. All the blame I carried as a burden in my heart all because of an old war. Maybe this was my chance to help in one and redeem myself.
“Okay I will do it and we have a deal,” I replied and immediately found myself almost being squeezed to death. This was from the unexpected hug by the Elf Queen.
“Thank you, thank you,” She said looking relieved by my answer.
“So, what is it exactly that you want me to spy on,” I asked now feeling dread at thoughts of what I was soon about to do. Spending my next few days hanging around with flipping Dragons.
“I need to know their war plans so that my army can be steps ahead of theirs. But most importantly, I need to know if the Dragon King will join the next battle too. So, I can set a trap for him.”
“His death will end it all for without a leader, the dragons will be confused giving us that short opening, then we will strike killing them all.” She replied now with a hardened look of a warrior already strategizing the next battle.
“I would like to be the one to give the final blow and kill him. And get revenge for my father and my little sister.” Dakith spoke joining the conversation again.
“What happened to your father and sister,” I could not help but ask in a small voice, not wanting to overstep my boundaries as maybe it was a touchy subject.
“My mother will tell you,” Dakith replied and stormed off.
I guess it was really a touchy subject for the elf prince.
“Me and mouth, I should have not asked,” I berated myself inwardly.
But then again, he should have not mentioned it and made me curious. Still, I knew he was not angry at me but at whatever had happened.
“I apologize for my son as when it comes to this matter, he gets like that,” His mother first said to me.
“But come with me Ruby of earth. It is now your right to know of the whole horrible past which led to this war. “The Queen said while taking my hand and leading me into a room which looked like her bed-chamber.
She then motioned for me to sit next to her by one of the crystal chairs.
“First are you hungry? If not we can begin.” She politely asked about to call in someone to bring food.
“I am not hungry, you can go ahead,” I replied embarrassed at having to tell her that I drank blood and could not eat food.
While I sat, she stood up and had her face staring right outside through one of the windows.
“Long ago, we used to be a peaceful world. Coexisting with each other and getting along. Dragons roamed the sky without instilling fear. Both our kingdoms were close allies and also the most powerful ones. We always visited each other and had a great friendship.” She first said starting the storytelling.
“But then a day came and we experienced the greatest betrayal and tragedy."
"I had just visited the fairies with my son Dakith, but came back home to find the whole village in flames. Dragon flames. My husband laying there dead and the crib empty of my baby, my little Ella.” As she spoke, I could feel her anger, grief, and sadness.
“The Dragons had betrayed us. Attacked us when we did not expect it and were at our weakest. So, I vowed revenge right there as I kneeled crying over my husband`s body. That I would avenge all those who had died, make the ones who had done it pay, and also force them to give me my baby back.” She finished.
“Little Ella is alive?” I could not help but ask while also feeling disgusted by the cruelty of dragons. Betraying their allies like that. And sadness too for the Queen who had been dealt such a hard card.
“Every Elf mother can feel if their child is alive or dead so I know she is alive. Only they could have her since they are the ones who attacked us first and all that has been the reason for this war.” She finished now turning towards me.
“Although getting revenge and making them pay has been my main mission as a ruler. As a mother, I just want my child back.” As she said so, she walked and gave me a letter to read.
*****
Dear Dragon King,
How is my little Ella? Where do you keep her, is she eating, and is she not hurting in any way? I know we are enemies right now and are at war, but please treat her well. As I have said in each and every letter which I have sent to you for the past years, we can stop this war and put everything behind. I will even forgive the death of my husband. But only If I just get my daughter back...that is all I ask for.
From, A worried mother,
Queen Elda.

“I always send these letters to the Dragon Kingdom once every month and plan to send this one too. I do want peace. It was never my choice to have this unending war.” She whispered once I was done reading.
“So yes, I am sending you there under the guise that you are going to get their war plans."
"But the other second mission which I want to ask of you Ruby, is to please also find my daughter there. Find my little Ella and if possible, bring her home. I will be eternally grateful.” She finished in honesty now with a pleading tone in her voice.
“I will do everything I can to find your daughter for you, even if I have to sweep through the Dragon King`s whole layer,” I replied with a fierce tone in my voice I would make sure the mother and daughter were reunited.
“Now get up and let us go get you Dragonian clothes before you go to Dragonia,”
“Dragonian clothes? And Dragonia?” I asked,
“Yes, the clothes so that you can blend in if you ever need to be visible. And Dragonia is a city up there high in the sky and where Dragons dwell in their human forms.” She replied making my eyes widen.
“I will have the tailors quickly bring the style for you to change in, so you can get used to it before leaving today.” The Elf queen said with high enthusiasm.
“Leave…Today?” I asked in more bewilderment, wondering if I had heard her right. I had expected to have maybe a day or two to be ready, especially in my mind.
“Yes, sadly the next war may be soon and we need to have the info from you as early as possible. So that we can have time to prepare.” She replied seriously,
I instead was just left inwardly shook, wondering what I had agreed to.
I can be honest and say thoughts of how I was about to spend the next days in the Dragons den, filled me with nothing but dread.
