6: Confrontation

1035 Words
RHYSAND As I stepped into the largest tent we made our main base. The tension that welcomed me was palpable. My brother, and second in command, Lucien, stood by the other end. His gaze piercing as he awaited my arrival. This confrontation had been forthcoming since I made that public claim. I’m surprised he had even waited this long. He didn’t have to say it for me to know he disapproved of every part of the public claim I made. And perhaps, if it hadn’t taken me like the storm too, I would have paid more attention to it and thought it through. Which was unlike me. I always think things through. I’m neither impulsive nor reckless. Just this time, something else was in play. "You've caused quite the stir, brother," Lucien's voice cut through the silence, his tone a mix of curiosity and disapproval. He was looking at me like I was an unknown species he was examining. I approached him, my steps deliberate and unwavering. "Is there something you wish to say, Lucien?" His eyes narrowed, the moonlight trickling through the spaces in the tent casting shadows across his features. Making them appear sharper. "Claiming that girl publicly was a bad move. You know the implications it carries." He shakes his head in disapproval. I raised an eyebrow. "Implications?” I wanted to scoff. “I am the executioner, Lucien. No one dares to cross me." He shook his head, frustration evident in his voice when he spoke. "You're not invincible, Rhysand. There are forces at play beyond your control." His frustration with me was evident. I let out a chuckle, masking the uneasiness I was feeling at the mention of control. "Ah, but control is what I excel at, dear brother.” I boast and tap him on the shoulder. Leaving my hand there after. “Fear is a powerful tool, one I wield with precision. No one would do anything and risk my wrath." Lucien's expression doesn’t change. But I detected a hint of worry seeping through his facade. "Just be careful, Rhysand. Not everyone shares your vision." With a dismissive wave of my hand, I turned away, signaling the end of our conversation. Lucien may be my brother, but he often underestimated my abilities and ambitions. It is a good thing no one told me what to do. Not even him as my beta. And especially not when it came to my mate. There were things about her I wanted to find out. I remembered her clearly from the night before. I don’t think she even knows who I am. She hadn’t known the night before. I know that no she-wolf of lycan in her right mind will come to me the way she did. It is part of our tradition to get ready for any type of attack the night before. There is a lot of music and booze. And all of the soldiers are allowed to let their beasts out and be their true selves. They can indulge in whatever activities they find interest in. And what’s more interesting than picking up women? Humans at that. Very clueless things. They are. Having no knowledge of the monsters that lurk around them. We supported anything that’ll alleviate their stress and keep them clear headed for the next day. Lucien brought a very hard potion for us that night. And though it didn’t fully intoxicate me. It must have messed enough with my head that I didn’t recognize her as my mate instantly. Well then, that is a mistake that’s not going to repeat itself. I paced the length of the room a few times. My mind has refused to rest since my brief conversation with Lucien. He was worried and I understood that. As my beta, he is in charge of all things security. So it explains why he is going overboard. The council have had their eyes on me. They haven’t tried anything yet because I could easily destroy them. But they won’t sit back and let me do what I plan on doing to all their packs. We haven’t reached the stage of our plan where they come in . So for now, they can keep sitting on their little throne chairs and looking at everyone from down their noses. I’ll have their time soon enough. The moon hung low in the night sky as I made my way to the tent she was in. Lisa. The name echoed in my mind, conjuring memories of our passionate moments the night before. She was unlike anyone I had ever met, a whirlwind of fire and grace that ignited something primal within me. Even with her inexperience. She had managed to outdo many of the women I’ve been with before. She drove me to absolute insanity. And just the thought has me growing more aroused. As I approached her door, I could feel the anticipation building. I have never considered what having a mate would be like. What to do with her was not known to me. And it didn’t help that she was what I least expected. Who would have thought someone so innocent would be my fated? It seemed almost like a mistake. The thrill of uncertainty only fueled my desire as I walked directly into the tent. Not bothering to make my presence known beforehand. Lisa jumped to her feet when she heard me. Her eyes were wide with fear. Immediately, she became on guard. Lowering her head to the floor. Her submissiveness made another jolt of pleasure roll through me. Although I couldn’t ignore the part of me thst craved a little defiance. I loved to conquer and tame. It would have been an amazing opportunity to get to do that with her. My gaze ran over her form. Recalling all the ways she had bent to my will the night before. How she easily submitted to the pleasure I gave her. Now in bed, there is where I demand complete submission and she did so well. The thoughts of having her again crossed my mind. But seeing how badly she was shaking even though I haven’t said anything to her. That makes me hesitate.
