Chapter 4

1017 Words
Casey’s P.O.V   I ran and I kept running, until my legs hurt and I couldn’t run anymore. Another mate? Seriously, I have a second chance mate? I know I have probably hurt him and made him worried by running away like that, but I can’t just go jumping into someone else’s arms. After all, how do I know he won’t turn on me? How do I know he won’t try and hurt Star and National? I thought as I laid down beside the pond after letting my wolf drink some water and just cried. What if he turns out like Kevin? What if he ends up treating me the same way that Kevin did, cheating on me and wanting someone else? I laid there thinking so hard about Kirk and my last mate, thinking about all the possible things that could happen and I was so deep in thought that I didn’t hear someone coming up behind me until I turned and saw him. There was a stranger on my territory and I was stupidly alone with him.   “Mate. Mine.” He growled out, but all I could see were his red eyes. He smelled like blood, death and rotten eggs, but what scared me was the look in his eyes and how he started to stalk towards me, like I was his prey. I shot up from the ground and ran as fast as I could back to the pack house. When I ran in through the back door, I shifted, got dressed and ran straight to Star’s office. I didn’t bother knocking and just ran straight in, hugging Star as soon as I saw her.   “Star, I...I don’t know what to do. First Kirk and then when I was out there in the woods this rogue came up and called me mate, mine. He was calling me his mate, but he smelled of blood, death and rotten eggs, like he had just killed something or someone. Please don’t let him into our territory, please make it official.” I said, but Star looked really confused.   “Make what official? Casey, you need to take a breath and calm down.” Star said, so I did as she said and then spoke again.   “Make me a member of this pack, please. Let me join. Don’t let him take me, Star.” I said, as Star hugged me once more. She was rubbing my back and trying to calm me down as National came into the office and saw us.   “What’s going on? Is she okay?” National asked and Star nodded.   “Give me your dagger.” Star said and when I looked up I saw that National looked really confused, but he still gave her his dagger.   “Casey, hold out your right hand.” Star said, making me so happy as I immediately held my hand out.   “Casey, do you promise to obey all the rules of this pack? To never disrespect your Alpha and Luna, to always fight alongside your pack. Do you promise to never try to sleep with someone’s mate? Do you promise to help take care of the younglings, to keep them safe from harm and to lay your life on the line for your pack? Do you promise to help out when needed?” Star said and I quickly nodded.   “Yes to all. I promise to all. Yes Alpha, yes Luna. I’ll do all of it, this I swear on my life. I swear to the Moon Goddess.” I replied, babbling slightly. Star and National both nodded as Star took my hand and led me outside to the backyard. She took my hand and cut the inside of my palm, then held my hand so the blood dripped from my hand and onto the ground. I felt the bond with Star and National begin, then I felt the bond with the rest of the pack begin and it was so strong that it made me fall to my knees. I felt the bond between us all complete and then got back to my feet, standing tall with pride and joy on my face. I hugged Star and National.   “Thank you. Thank you, Luna, Alpha. Thank you so much.” I said, bowing my head to my new Alpha and Luna.   “Your welcome, sweetheart. Welcome to Black Bear pack, you are now officially a member and one of the family.” Star said as she and National softly chuckled. I nodded my head and then sat down on the grass, sighing as I watched my blood sink into the earth.   “Who was out there with you? Who was it that got you so scared, Casey.” National asked, but I just shook my head.   “I don’t know who he was, I have never seen him before, but he scared the s**t out of me and my wolf. He smelled of death, blood and rotten eggs, he wasn’t just a wolf, he had the scent of a vampire as well and that scared me even more, but then he called me mate and I ran all the way back here.” I replied, feeling nervous and anxious.   “Would you recognise him if you saw him again?” National asked and I nodded.   “Yes, I definitely would, but I would rather not ever be near him or even smell that scent. It was the scent of death, Alpha.” I replied, still scared. I don’t think I could or would ever forget that smell, not for the rest of my life would I forget it. He said he was my mate, just like Kirk did, but with Kirk I smelled his scent and I knew he was my mate. I was drawn to Kirk, but with whoever was out in the woods I didn’t feel anything at all except fear, his smell didn’t attract me or anything. How is this even possible? I had a mate and now I have two second chance mates? How can that be possible?
