Casey’s P.O.V
After the ceremony I had a long talk with National and Star about everything that had happened, what the man looked like and how I felt about having a second chance mate, but the one thing we still couldn’t work out was why I had two. I tried to describe him as best as I could, but the one thing I would never forget about him was his eyes. His eyes looked so dangerous and fierce, like they would swallow not only me, but everyone else whole as well. They were deep pools of dark red and there didn’t look like there was any mercy, love, compassion or anything nice in them. We finished talking and I went up to my room, but before I could even open my bedroom door I was gently tapped on the shoulder and when I turned around I saw that it was Kirk. I wasn’t ready to talk to him yet and I had no idea what I was going to say to him, but the least I could do was hear him out.
“Listen, I really didn’t mean to scare you earlier, but Luna Star and Alpha National explained everything to me about your first mate and what he did a few years back. I am so sorry for what happened to you, but I won’t give up on you or us. I never thought I would find my mate and I was okay with that because of my work, but then I found you and I just hope you will understand that when I go on my shift to work I stay gone for a while. I’m making sure rogues don’t come into the territory, but now that I have found you I might not stay away that long. I want this to work and I am going to win your heart over somehow.” Kirk said, taking my hand and bringing it to his lips. He kissed the back of my hand and then lowered it back down to my side, letting go. It was a really sweet gesture and it made me want to melt into his arms straight away, but I had to be strong. I had been burned once before and I wasn’t going to let it happen again.
“I’m sorry I ran from you, I know it must have hurt you and caused you to feel rejected, which was never my intention, but now that you know what happened I am hoping you can understand why I did it. Just give me time. I haven't had a mate for a few years and I wasn’t really looking for one seeing as the last one was pure evil and got himself killed. I tried to tell him not to go, to stay, but he needed to prove he was a big shot, I guess. He wanted all the power and he wanted Star, but in the end he got himself killed. He chose power and to go after another woman who didn’t want him over me, so what does that say about him or me for that matter. I couldn’t go back to my pack because it reminded me of him. It's been a bumpy road, but I’m going to be okay. I need time, so you get your sleep and before you go one your shift tomorrow I’ll come see you out.” I replied and he softly smiled at me.
“I don’t work for the next two days, so maybe we can hang out tomorrow?” Kirk asked, making me nervous.
“I’ll...er think about it. Goodnight, Kirk.” I replied, unsure of what to say or do next. Do I give him a goodnight kiss or do I just leave him be?
“Goodnight Casey.” Kirk said and I went inside my room. I closed the door behind me and fell on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. I’m not ready for this and now that I know he has the next two days off I’m going to have to hide out, maybe I could go shopping with Lita and Amy?
“Hey Lita, Amy, do you want to go shopping tomorrow, say about ten in the morning. We can grab a bite to eat at the mall and maybe see a movie?” I asked, mind-linking both of them.
“Hey Casey, yeah we’re both down for that. Are you hiding out because of Kirk?” Amy asked, mind-linking me back.
“Why do you ask that?” I asked, confused as to what they knew.
“Girl, the whole pack knows that you and Kirk are mates, we promise not to say anything about you hiding out.” Lita replied, making all of us laugh.
“You can say that much for sure, I’ll see you tomorrow, be ready at nine-am. I want to not be here when he wakes up.” I said, hoping they would say yes.
“Alright girl, see you then.” Lita and Amy replied at the same time and I ended the link. Today had been a long day and I knew the next two days were going to be even longer, especially when I was hiding from not one, but both of my second chance mates. I had one mate I was terrified of and in all honesty I wasn’t even sure if he was my mate because I had already recognised Kirk as my second chance mate and he seemed too good to be true. I just needed time to think, time to make sure I was one hundred percent ready and sure of all of this. After all, it was a huge step, I thought as I snuggled down in my bed and tried to sleep.
