Chapter 3

Casey’s P.O.V

  So much has happened in the past few years I’ve been here at Black Bear pack and it seems that everyone has been finding their mates, but me. I’m completely fine with that, considering who my last mate was and what he tried to do, but it makes me wonder if the Moon Goddess decided not to give me a second chance mate. I’m okay with that because at least I won’t get hurt again when he rejects me after learning what happened, but why should I have to worry about that when I don’t have a second chance mate. I got up from the chair in my room after fixing my hair and went downstairs to get something to eat. I walked into the kitchen, immediately grabbing some eggs, a green pepper, diced ham and shredded cheese. I wanted a fully loaded omelette, so I chopped up the green pepper and everything else, mixed it all together and then poured it all into a pan, cooking it. It smelled really delicious and when it was finally ready I put it on a plate and sat down to eat it. My mouth was watering, but before I even took one bite I heard someone growling behind me.

  “MINE!” A man said and when I turned around to see who it was and who they were talking to I saw the most gorgeous man I have ever laid eyes on. I thought my ex mate was hot, but Goddess this man outdoes any other guy out there. He had shoulder length dark hair, the bluest eyes I had ever seen and he was built from head to toe. I’ve seen him before and if I remember right his name is Kirk and he’s a guard, actually he’s the best guard there is. Holy crap, did he just say mine? I thought to myself, wondering if I heard him right. I took a look around to see who he was talking about, but there was no one else in the kitchen except for us two. I caught his scent and he smelled incredible with a mix of musk and black berries. My eyes started to turn black and then back to their normal hazel green colour.

  “Mate. Mine.” I whispered as Kirk started to walk towards me. He held his hands out, letting me know that he wouldn’t hurt me, but I just shook my head. No, I’m not ready for this, I thought, getting up from my seat and taking off through the door.

  “CASEY! STOP!! WHAT'S WRONG!! PLEASE DON'T RUN FROM ME, I WON’T HURT YOU!!” Kirk yelled after me, but his words faded as I shifted into my red wolf and ran into the forest. My wolf Elle was whimpering, wanting her mate, but I was hurt last time because of my ex mate Kevin and I wasn’t going to let it happen again.

  Kirk’s P.O.V

  I can't believe this. I found my mate and she ran away from me. I have watched this girl from afar for a few years and something always drew me to her, but I didn’t know what it was until today. Why would she run from me though? Had I done something wrong that I didn’t know about? Had someone hurt or done something to her that made her react like this? Whatever the reason, I already knew I didn’t like it, but there was only one way for me to know exactly what had happened and that was to talk to Alpha Star or Alpha National. I ran straight to Star’s office, knocking loudly on the door until I heard footsteps hurrying over to the door and opening it.

  “Kirk, what in the world is going on? Why were you knocking like that?” Star asked with a worried look on her face.

  “I’m sorry, Luna, but I really need to talk to you about Casey. I just found out that she is my mate, but as soon as I started walking towards her she ran from me. Why would she do that?” I asked, but Star just shook her head, took a deep breath and opened the door wider for me to enter.

  “Kirk, it's a long story. Come inside and I’ll tell you everything.” Star replied and I nodded. I walked into the office and sat down in the chair in front of her desk, but the whole time my stomach was doing back flips, making me worried and even more nervous. Star closed the door and sat in her chair, just as Alpha National walked in from his office.

  “What's going on? Is everything okay?” National asked, but I shook my head. National came and took a seat as Star took another deep breath.

  “Casey had a mate a few years ago, when she first joined this pack and he was the one who tried to kill us. Her mate was Kevin and he wanted Casey, but because she didn't have any powers he didn’t think she was good enough and set his sights on me. She tried to tell him not to go to war with us, but he did what he did and he died. After the war she decided to stay with us because she thought that going back to her old pack….to his pack would bring back too many memories. She rejected him through the mind-link when she got here, before the fighting began and he was so cruel when he accepted the rejection. You need to take your time with her, have patience with her. She will come around when she is ready, but it is going to take time, so just bear with her.” Star said, shocking me. I thought that I was her first mate, but turns out I am her second chance mate. Is scared of me, scared that I will be like him? Is that another reason why she ran or is it just because I am her mate?
