Chapter 4

As soon as we arrived at the hospital, Lancelot immediately pulled me out of the car. And I don’t really have the energy to complain so I just let him do what he wants. We didn’t go to the emergency room. Instead, he brought me straight to the clinic inside the hospital. He didn’t even talk to the receptionist of the clinic and just stormed inside the doctor’s office. “Hey!” I was about to confront him when I saw the doctor was shocked when we entered the office. But I immediately stopped myself when it turned into a smile. “Lancelot,” The man in a doctor’s coat approached him and tapped his shoulder. “It’s been a long time, dude.” “Yeah,” Lancelot coldly remarked and slightly pushed me. “Go treat this dude. He took a gunshot to save me so I brought him here.” “Oh.” That man looked at me intently. And that made me a little bit uncomfortable so I turned my back on him and sat on the bed that he had in this office. “So, are you going to treat me or not?” I raised my eyebrows at him, waiting for him to do his job. “I am in pain and don’t expect me to be nice after what I just did earlier.” “Dude,” Lancelot talked to him. “He saved my life and he took that gunshot from me so please, treat him. Don’t mind his attitude because I owe my life to him.” That man sighed. “Fine,” he said. “But just to be clear, I am doing this for you and I will try to be as nice as possible even though the attitude of this man is getting on my nerves.” I didn’t say anything and just rolled my eyes. It is not like I intended to go here. It was Lancelot who insisted on bringing me here so it is not my fault that he didn’t like my attitude. He took his things, sat on the high stool in front of me, and started tending my wounds. “So, can you tell me what happened?” “Dude, I know this is a lot to ask but can you please not report it to the police?” Lancelot begged. “This is something about me and I don’t want others to get involved because of what I did in the past.” “So, you have an idea why this is happening to you,” the doctor said. “And you didn’t want to involve the police even though you nearly got killed today if this dude were not there to save you.” He turned to me. “Thanks, by the way.” I just gave him a faint smile and didn’t say anything else. They talked a little bit more and I tried to use that opportunity to get out of here but Lancelot immediately grabbed my hand before I could even run. “Let’s go.” He said goodbye to his friend and pulled me out of the hospital. And even though I didn't want to, I was forced to get inside his car again because I noticed that someone was following us. I guess I have to stay beside him for a while. ___________ “May you please answer my question now?” Lancelot asked again while we were inside his car. I had no idea where we were going because my attention was focused on several cars that were carefully following us. Those people were probably hired to kill this man, just like me. The difference between them and me is that my mission can change depending on the highest bidder for this man’s life. For now, the winning team is those people who want him alive so I had to protect him. And I can only do that if I am near him. With this many people trying to kill him, staying in the shadows is not really an option. “What is your question?” I said without looking at him. “Not sure if you will be satisfied with my answer but I will try.” “You are here to protect me, right?” he said. “I know this emblem.” He pointed at the emblem of my jacket. “This is an organization that can provide protection to others. The Seventh Sector.” “Oh.” Seventh Sector is not really a secret organization. The public knows about us, though they only know that we are some kind of security agency that protects those who can afford our service. The assassination service we offer to our client is an off-the-record discussion since there are a lot of complications in that thing. “Does someone hire you to protect me from the people who want to kill me?” he asked. “And is it related to the system that I develop?” I sighed, looked at him, and nodded. “There are people who want to kill you because they are afraid that you might become a big threat to their wealth and power,” I said. “But there are also some people who want you to live because they saw your potential to become their tool in getting more success for themselves. Thanks to your system.” The clients that want him to live don't have any noble reason to save his life. They just wanted to use him because, with the help of this man, they could get a higher place in society. That is why they are risking everything right now just to keep this man alive. Well, I know that he already had this idea. He just wanted some assurance and I just gave it to him. “Damn it!” He messed up his hair. “Is this the consequence that Dad said?” His eyes were filled with anger as he clenched his fist. “Great,” I said. “It is a good thing that you were aware of the reason why those people wanted you dead. The system that you created is a pest in your life that will kill you.” “That system helped my family,” he almost whispered, but I managed to hear it. “It might endanger my life right now, I didn’t regret creating it.” Li-San told me that the Neon Family was struck with a lot of incidents fifteen years ago. They lost everything they had because of the people that betrayed them. The lady of their family got sick and had to be admitted to the hospital for a very long time. Their children got kidnapped and scattered all over the country. It takes them three years before they find Lancelot and his eldest sister. And they only found their other three siblings because of the system that Lancelot created. It also helps his family to take back everything they had before and put the people who betrayed them in jail. They owe a lot of things to the system that he created so I can’t really blame him for not regretting creating this thing. “Then, since you are aware of your situation, you might need to prepare yourself for the worst scenario that may happen to you,” I said. “Because your life has changed now. Death is chasing you and I am the only one who can take you away from it. So, do everything I say, especially when we are in a difficult situation.” I can see in his eyes that he is still not ready to die so I know that it will be easy for him to obey me. “You want to live, do what I say,” I added. “I will protect you with everything I can.” “Okay.”
