Melissa Eden
How was I supposed to find my way to the dining hall. This place was huge and I had less than two minutes to make it to dinner without being late. I had used up most of my time in that overly-pleasant bathtub.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a more
I had never taken a bath in one before and yes, my parents weren’t exactly rich. Comfortable to afford the basic necessities, Yes but rich, No.
I keep taking turns until I see a girl that seems to be around my age heading in the opposite direction.
“ Uhhm- hello. The dining hall, where is it please?”
My voice was calm and steady. It wouldn’t do me any good to act like I was scared of Nicholas in front of the others.
“ You’re already there, it’s that door.” She replies pointing to a door down the hallway. Well how was I to know, there were too many doors in this house.
“ Right. Thank you.” I finish off with a polite smile as I head for the dining hall.
There had to be over thirty people in this dining hall. A table that looked like it went on for ages stood in front of me with it’s seats fully occupied by Nicholas’s pack members.
Did they always eat this way? With a lot of people? I don’t think I’ll be comfortable doing this. One thing was certain, I wasn’t going to coming down for dinner anymore.
This was more like a dinner party.
All their eyes turn towards me, most of them already passing their judgement on me. It looked like they hadn’t started eating yet. Well, that’s good for me.
I find an empty seat just beside Nicholas, who was seating at the head of the table. Taking it that it was reserved for me, I take confident steps to the chair that was miles away from me. Long confident steps.
“ Look who finally arrived.” Nicholas said, giving a knowing smirk. He knew what he was doing. He left me alone in that be room after giving me instructions to be a dining hall I knew nothing about.
No directions, nothing. He was trying to make me look bad in front of the others by making it seem like I was the reason they hadn’t started eating yet.
Thankfully, I was actually smart in contrast to what people think when they see me. Most people have this stereotypical believe that beautiful girls aren’t smart, maybe they were right but I was an exception.
My parents had always been more confident in my quick brain more than anything. It was like a from the moon goddess for not having a wolf.
“ I’m sorry but I don’t exactly live here so I had a hard time finding this dining hall. I would have been earlier if you at least gave me directions Mate.” I say nonchalantly as I take the seat behind him.
Nicholas gives a maniacal grunt, his eyes twitching at me in the process. He didn’t like that.
I guess no one talked back to him. Well, I won’t just sit and allow him talk down to me in front of people that should respect me.
“ Let’s eat.” He orders and everyone immediately digs into their food.
As I stare at the food in front of me, I’m reminded of how hungry I am considering that the last time I ate was a bit after ten in the morning and this was already eight.
The dinner was quite simple. A quinoa salad sat beautifully in a plate, sided with some turkey and an apple pie on the side for desert.
“ So, Melissa right?” The same blonde from earlier called out. I noticed that she was also sitting just beside Nicholas but on the other side.
She definitely wasn’t just a pack member.
I wasn’t ready for a conversation with her or anyone. I was too hungry for that.
Giving her a slight nod I go back to the beauty in front of me.
“ Tsk tsk tsk.. You shouldn’t do that. If you are asked a question, you should respond with your words Melissa. Words.” She retorts rudely.
“ I’m sorry, What?” I raise my head to meet hers, already feeling irritated. I was just beginning to eat for goodness sake. Why was she only focused on me, I wasn’t the only one in the room. Everyone was having a chat with their partners, she could talk to any other person for all I care, Nicholas inclusive. I just wanted to eat right now.
“ Exactly. Use your words, your not dumb.” At this point, I was going to explode with anger if didn’t control herself.
“ I’m sorry but I will not have you talk to me in such disrespectful manner.” Her eyes widen at my statement, turning to Nicholas for backup.
“ You can’t-” I raise my hand to stop her from talking. I didn’t come here to have a banter with anyone.
If she was looking for someone to fight with she could ask one of the other wolves to have a duel with her. I wasn’t in the mood for this.
“ I think it’s best if you keep your mouth shut, Eugene. You don’t look stupid when you do that at least.” I say, looking her dead in the eye. What is the use of being a mate to the alpha of a pack if people were going to disrespect me, I better clear up that misunderstanding now to avoid issues in the future.
“ How dare you.” Eugene flares up but is cut off by Nicholas.
“ That’s enough Eugene. Eat. ” His eyes are fixated on me as he speaks. He looked angry.
Thankfully, the rest of the dinner went on peacefully without any more words from the Eugene and I was able to enjoy the delicious meal without interruptions.
After the dinner, the lady who was asked to prepare a room for me, came in to inform that my room was ready. I was really happy cause this meant that I did not have to share a room with Nicholas. His attitude was not something I wanted to have to deal with at night too.
The room was almost as big as Nicholas’s room only that it didn’t have the usual aesthetics. It looked more modern.
The look on my face must’ve been too obvious, the maid who followed me here beamed delightfully.
“ I’m glad you like it. I thought you might like this
setting more so I had to prepare our most modern room for you. We took a lot of time in setting it up because we had to order some modern furnitures. I was scared that you weren’t going to like it. I feel so much better now. ” She stops to catch her breath for a bit. Her face meets mine and she gasps.
“ I’m so sorry Luna, I shouldn’t talk like that before you.” She apologizes with her head bowed. Why did they act like this was a kingdom?
I burst out with laughter immediately, my eyes almost tearing up in the process.
“ Are you being serious right now?” She almost looks scared.
“ You’re the first person to actually talk to me like I’m a normal person and believe it or not, you’re the first to make me laugh in a really long time.” I say genuinely.
“ And please you don’t have to be so formal with me. You also don’t need to call me Luna. My name is Melissa and yes, you did a splendid job with the room. I love it.”
I take the time to move around my new prison cell. At least it was a pretty cell.
