Dante's POV
I stared at the pool of blood at my feet a sense of satisfaction filling me, it feels good to get rid of certain people, I wish he didn't give up like some putty, it would have been a lot more fun if I got to put a few more knives in him before he died so easily,
"Don" I greeted as I picked up my phone walking towards my black Rolls Royce that sat in the middle of the dark lonely road,
"My office now" he ordered ending the call before I could even reply, so much for going home for some liquor, sometimes being the right-hand man to a well-known and dangerous Don has its disadvantages but like he will always say there is no better man for the job.

"I have already sent some men to clean up the mess you made," he said as I walked in his face buried in his paperwork with his usual scowl on his face,
"Would have loved his dearest wife to see his body on the news though" I scoffed making myself comfortable on the sofa beside the wall,
"We don't need the police on our backs right now" he replied his concentration still on his work,
"Sometimes I am grateful I picked the dirty work because I cannot be staring at papers and screens all day, what's the fun in that" I joked fishing my phone out of my pocket,
"Well someone has to do all the paperwork" he replied,
"Good thing we have you" I answered,
"Now over to the reason you are here, there is work to be done" he spoke his voice stern and straightforward finally looking at me,
"There is always work to be done" I replied sarcastically,
"This is not your usual dirty business and I need you to be as discreet as possible" he continued ignoring my sarcasm, I sat up a little noticing the seriousness in his tone,
"As discreet as possible meaning just a few men are involved?" I asked c*****g my head a little to the side and studying his facial expression as he spoke,
"No meaning only you and I are aware of this" he replied sternly,
"Hmm" I hummed, this is more serious than I thought then,
"What's the issue?" I asked in all seriousness,
"You would be going to New York," he said shocking me a little but I made sure it didn't show on my face, he never sends me so far away,
"What if something comes up and you need my help?" I asked the one question running through my mind, throughout our six years working together he has never sent me more than three hours away, he became Don at 19 right after the last Don died in an attack from an insider, he took us from the orphanage where we were brought up and he trained us till the day he died and Ivan took over while I became his underboss although I do more of the work an assassin than an underboss but he understands where my strength lies,
"You would only be gone for twenty-four hours, anything higher than twenty-four hours and I would send someone to drag your ass back to Italy" he replied a smug look on his face as he said the last part, he knew how much I hated when someone is sent to babysit me or anything like that, I am used to having their backs and not the other way around, I move alone for a reason and I am feared for a reason,
"What's so important that I have to go all the way to New York?" I asked ignoring his previous comment,
"I need you to protect someone" he replied his serious look back on like it never left,
"Uhm okay, is this person like a president or something?" I asked confused as to why he would pick me to protect someone, that's like an insult to my career if you ask me,
"Oh you wish" he chuckled picking up his phone,
"I am confused right now," I said wondering where this whole conversation was heading,
"I want you to protect her," he said turning his phone screen to me, 'her'? my eyes slowly fell on the screen, a girl with her blonde hair packed in a ponytail sat with a pile of books by her side, she is obviously a nerd even her big round glasses say a lot, she looked fixated on whatever information she was getting from the book that even if an attack was to happen in the room right beside her she may not even know, but something about her made me feel there was more than what meets the eyes,
"A girl really?" I asked in a bored tone,
"A college girl if I may add" he replied a small smile on his face at my discomfort, I never deal with women ever and he knew it,
"I am not doing it" I concluded standing up to leave,
"She is going to die in less than twenty-four hours in the most brutal of ways if you don't" he suddenly said his voice going back to being all serious,
"How? What could a college girl possibly have done that would put a death penalty of that kind on her head?" I asked getting irritated by all of this,
"She witnessed a murder right by her dorm" he replied confusing me,
"And?, can't we just call the police as an anonymous caller or better still pull a few strings to ensure her safety if you so badly want to save her?" I asked with a sigh of irritation,
"The Irish Mafia is after her, she witnessed the murder of her roommate who so happens to be a member of the Irish mafia who tried to steal from them and now they want her dead too, something about her having information she is not supposed to have" he explained,
"So is this about the murder or the information?" I asked still confused,
"Both, the murder is a cover-up from what I have found out, they think her roomate must have told her a thing or two so they want to get rid of her before she goes to the police and we need to make sure neither of that happens" he explained,
"So she can't be killed and she can't go to the police too?" I asked,
"Exactly" he replied with a slight nod of his head,
"I still don't understand the aim of all of this but I will do it because I so hate that Sullivan," I said seating back down although everything in me screamed at me that this is such a bad idea, I vowed to never go on missions involving women after I killed a woman I wasn't supposed to kill just because her husband is an asshole and I had to take care of their son who still doesn't know I was the one who killed his mum,
"That's the spirit, I will send you the details now, you leave in an hour" he replied focusing his attention back on his previous work,
"Wait what? an hour?" I repeated shocked, he already had everything prepared like he knew I would agree to this,
"She may not be alive if we wait any longer so I advise you to do all you need to do before an hour" he concluded eliciting a sigh from me, I wonder why I look forward to going home at times like I ever have free time even at home.
