One-Audrey
Audrey's POV
"Audrey, Audrey, Audrey" I heard someone call out although the voice sounded so very far away,
"Audrey, wake up it is late already," The voice said again a little louder this time,
"Huh?..." I muttered drowsily still very much asleep,
"Audrey it's almost midnight, you need to go back to your dorm now," The voice said making me jump out of the chair,
"s**t, s**t, s**t" I cursed hurriedly packing my things,
"Calm down, I can help you back if you wouldn't mind" Mrs Rachel the librarian offered a small scowl on her face,
"No, No it's fine, I can find my way back, it is just a few streets away nothing much, thank you" I politely declined pushing the rim of my glasses closer to my face,
"Hmm, if you say so" she replied disapproval written all over her face,
"If it will make you feel better, I will call you when I get to my dorm, my roommate won't be home anyways" I suggested, adding the extra information to ease her tension because I know how much she doesn't fancy my roommate and her lifestyle,
"That will be much better" she agreed a small smile gracing her face this time,
"Okay then, off I go," I said in a sing-song voice placing a kiss on her cheeks before heading out,
As I stepped into the dark, cold air blew against my skin and I shivered slightly, my teeth chattering together against themselves at the temperature change, it is definitely colder at night. I took in a deep breath before taking my next step, then another counting my steps slowly to avoid fear from creeping in at the silence and loneliness of the roads, what on earth was I thinking when I declined Mrs. Rachel's offer to escort me back to my dorm, how do people even move around at such odd hours, I have never craved to be in my room so badly all my life and trust me when I say I love being in my room so this says a lot.
I fished out my AirPods from my school bag to distract myself from the horrid thoughts running through my mind, I decided to focus on my music while I counted my steps praying my dorm would just appear right in front of me, it seemed so far away today or maybe it is just in my head but something was making me uneasy, I love nighttime but not when I am not in my nighties on my bed reading a bestseller or probably watching a rom-com just for the fun of it, being outside is not my thing,
"Who is there?" I muttered turning to my right and directing my phone light towards the dark space hoping it was all in my head or maybe it was a drunk student who missed their way, I can't die now, I still have to graduate and get my business degree, I promised Mum and Dad I was going to make them proud, I took in a deep breath when I got no response hastening my steps as my dorm finally came to view, just one last turn and I would be safe in the four corners of my room, I never knew how much I love that little space so much until today,
"Just a few more steps, Audrey" I whispered to myself taking in deep breaths to calm my heart rate as I began to recognize the buildings around and all the students who looked like they had either partied their lives out or they were about to do so, I was almost there. I took a swift turn to my left finally approaching the door,
Bang.Bang.Bang.
Three gunshots suddenly rang through the air, my heart rate rose as my instincts screamed at me to run but I couldn't move my feet as fear took over, I know a gunshot when I hear one and it was loud enough to be in my head. The smell of metallic copper filled the air assuring me that someone was just killed, I am so f****d. The students who were previously moving around seemed to have gone into their dorms probably in fear leaving me to the cold empty roads. I have to run, just a minute and I'll be in and safe, hopefully. Clutching my phone closer to my body I braced myself to run but something caught my eye,
"That will teach you who to mess with" He muttered smearing the dried blood on his blade across the leather jacket he had on like it meant nothing, but I couldn't really make out his face since I could only see his side and he seemed really focused on destroying the already dead body, I involuntarily released a gasp as the dead body finally came into view as he took a step backward, Katelyn, my f*****g roommate,
"Who is there?" his voice boomed followed by his large footsteps approaching me, without thinking I ran towards my dorm trying the blink back the tears that were forming in my eyes, what did she do to deserve that, pulling my keys out from my pocket I quickly unlocked the door bolting it properly as I got in.
I stood by the door quietly waiting to know if I was being followed all the way here when I was sure he wasn't following me I slowly took few steps back taking in deep breaths as I tried to calm my heart rate finally letting my tears flow, I know she wasn't the best but she was my roommate and she is human she didn't deserve such death, resting my back on the wall right beside me I slowly slid down to the floor bringing my knees to my face silently sobbing as my previous fear took over the adrenaline in my blood, I am not safe here anymore, he could come for me, I have to report to the school authorities, I have to change dorm or something.
