My Mate My Hope

Chapter Three

Hope

 Zayn was sitting down on the couch in our bedroom watching me get ready to go out for dinner with our moms

"Baby do you remember someone who was a former pack member called Eva?" He asked me as I was putting some light makeup on.

I looked at him through the mirror and shook my head no.

"She left our pack five years ago to join another pack outside the United States" He continued to explain.

I thought hard for a minute "No, I don't think I remember her. Why do you ask?"

"She's back in town and asked if we could meet up sometime soon" He said going through his phone. 

"When did she come here?" I asked as I got up and walked into my closet to get my shoes. I wore a flirty black peplum top which had studded detail at the waistline with a red mid-thigh skirt. I slipped into a pair of black heels Zayn was standing at the door still watching me.

"She didn't come here she texted me"

He came closer and wrapped his hands around my waist "You look beautiful, I just think the skirt is a little…"

Before he could complain about the length of my skirt I rolled my eyes at him

"It's fine let's go"  I walked passed him he chuckled and slapped my behind.

"Watch it" He said but I'm not intimidated by him at all anymore. That ship has sailed a long time ago.

"So who was this Eva to you?" I asked him grabbing my black clutch as we headed out of the bedroom.

"She was a good friend that's all, why do you ask?"

"So she wasn't a friend with benefits like all your other friends?" I know I sounded pathetic maybe even a little psychotic but two women from his past tried to have me killed and one of them killed my first unborn pup.

"No we were just good friends" He says taking my hand in his and bringing it up to his lips for a soft kiss on the front and back. I love this man to death. We found both our moms waiting for us as soon as we get off the elevator.

I chose Zayn's favorite restaurant for dinner, I knew our moms would like it and of course so would he. When I made the reservations I told them I wanted a table with a view of the night skyline.

"Alpha it's always a pleasure to have you and your wife dine here" The waitress greeted us then led us to our table. This restaurant had both humans and werewolves working here, the werewolves respected us for our rank and the humans for our money and generous tips Zayn always left.

Dinner was fabulous I wiped my plate clean, had some of Zayn's veggies and still wanted dessert. I was so busy playing with Maddox at the Mother's Day picnic that I didn't have lunch.

"You're really hungry today" Mom said with an inquiring look on her face. She looked at Zayn's mom and they smiled at each other. I know what they're thinking but I chose to ignore them.

"Yeah I know I haven't eaten today" I said wiping my mouth

"What do you want for dessert?" Zayn asked planting a kiss on my forehead as he put his arm around my chair

"Anything with a lot of chocolate" He chuckles. He was about to ask our mothers what they wanted when I heard the most annoying voice call his name

"Zayynn oh my Goddess" I looked up to find a very pretty woman with long black hair, dark eyes and a big rack showing a lot of cleavage. Zayn looks up at her and doesn't acknowledge her at first but his expression looks pained and his eyes are dark. Jenna growls in my head. I felt all the color drain from my face when I heard her say "Mine" as she stared right at my mate.

Jenna Immediately took over and I shoved back her back. I stood up to finish off the b***h when Zayn grabbed me around the waist.

"Baby please please!" He pleaded, that alarming pained expression still all over his face. I didn't know what he was begging for. The b***h got off her ass and walked over slowly, I couldn't wait to kick her ass. Security was already by our table and mom and Maria by my side.  

"Hi Luna please tell her" She points at me from afar as she speaks, I can tell she's scared to approach me "to move away from my mate"

Zayn's mom answered confidently her voice filled with venom "She is Luna now and SHE is his mate" Maria almost sneered at the b***h.

"Well I guess we're both his mate" She said with one hand on her hip trying to stare me down. I'm not going to let this w***e get the best of me.

"I don't think so!" I said as I took a step towards her and she took one back.

"Eva!" Zayn warned his face back to normal. I felt a chill go down my spine. Oh my Goddess this was the friend he asked me about when I was getting ready. He told her to come here.

I was fuming! I glared at him and he immediately pulled me closer into his arms. I wanted to slap him and push him off me but I wasn't about to push him away in front of everyone especially her.

"You told her to come here?" I glared right into his eyes.

"No I didn't…let's just go home please!" He said, panic evident in his tone of voice. Why did he want to leave all of a sudden? Zayn would never just leave without resolving things his way.

"Eva you obviously are confused, my daughter is his mate" My mother's voice came out calm but her tone was threatening. I could sense how weak this Eva was but she still took a step closer, my mother stood in her way.

"Zayn tell her" The b***h hollered out like a crazy person. My eyes were locked on his now. He's hiding something.

When I was about to order dessert Hunter started pacing and shaking his head like he was confused or in pain. All of a sudden a weird but nice scent took over me I looked around the room until I heard Eva's voice call my name after so many years. It couldn't be. I already had all I wanted right next to me.

I congregated all my strength not to get up. It was like I was fighting the forces of nature. If I got up or said one wrong word it would cost me Hope. And that's something I cannot let happen.

I was shocked when I heard Eva try to claim me. Hunter never reciprocated and if he had I would have ignored him. But her scent is still trying to consume me. I don't want anyone but my mate, my wife. I cannot believe Hope thinks I told her to meet me here. I need to take her and leave now.

"Tell me what?" Hope asked I didn't answer instead

"We're leaving" I said taking Hope's hand without looking Eva's way.

"You feel it too. I know you do" She yelled out making me stop in my tracks. Nobody f*****g yells at me.

"Lower your voice" I cautioned her. "You were once my friend and that's all you'll ever be"

I said the words and I meant them even though I hate to admit, even to myself that I felt something. It wasn't love or anything close to what I feel for Hope. But something was there. I took my baby by the waist and led her out. My mother and Katherine right behind us.

The ride back home was uncomfortable and quiet I held Hope's hand tight never wanting to let go. Then after being in complete awkward silence she spoke

"Are you going to tell me what's going on?" I glanced at her and turned back the road

"I don't know what's going on"

"You don't know what's going on?" She repeated her voice full of sarcasm and eyes full of disdain.

"Is there an echo? I said I don't know what's going on I haven't seen her in five years!" I didn't want to fight with her. I just wanted to get home and keep her next to me, I was already exhausted. Thankfully she stayed quiet but her mind was going a mile a minute. f**k.

What happened next made things worse, my phone kept chiming in my jacket pocket one f*****g text message after the other. Until I finally took it out of my pocket and turned the f*****g thing off. I didn't want to do this with her in front of our mothers so I just turned it off.

Baby please…

Why did you shut your phone off? She asked calmly which always scared me.

I ran my hand through my hair in frustration trying to keep my mouth shut. She has every right to be upset. If it was the other way around I don't know what I would have done. One thing is for sure I would kill anyone who tried to claim her.

Can we deal with this at home please? f*****g hell

I dropped Katherine off at her house she looked worried but didn't say anything.

"Thank you both for a nice dinner" She said smiling at us. "Maria come down for a drink?" She asked my mother who took the opportunity to leave us alone and took Katherine up on her offer.

For a second I thought Hope was going to get down and stay at her parent's house. All of a sudden fear of losing her takes over me.

We were alone now but she still didn't say anything until I parked the car

"Is she your mate?" She asked looking right at me.

"No you are. I don't want anyone else"

"I didn't ask if you wanted anyone else. Is she your mate?" Hunter came out of the dark his eyes red

"I said no!"

"Then why did she say that" She raised her voice.

"I don't know… And lower your voice there's no need for all this s**t" I ran my hand through my hair and opened the door.

"I want to see what she texted you" She opened her hand out. f**k. I ignored what she said and walked around to open her door. She was looking down so I knelt down beside her and did what I was most dreading. I took out my phone and handed it to her. I didn't have anything to hide but whatever Eva wrote was going to cause a fight between us.

She didn't take the phone instead she said, "You're lying to me" her head was down.

"She's your mate and you felt it too" She said then she looked at me

"What do you want me to say?" I could already see her walls coming up

"The truth"

"Okay here's the truth. I love you. I only ever want you. Yes I felt a light pull to her but I don't give a f**k. I don't want another mate." I poured my heart out to her. She remained silent then looked up at me

"So what does that mean?"

"Baby please let's go home we'll talk there" She got out of the car and straight up the stairs.  In the elevator she was quiet

"I don't know what's going through your head, I do want you to believe me Hope please" 

"I saw the look on your face at the restaurant, when she called your name" She looked at me then got out of the elevator and entered the code to our house unlocking it. She walked in ahead of me. I couldn't take this any longer. I grabbed her arm to stop her from walking and spun her around 

"Tell me what you want me to do and I'll do it"
