4. Anna is going

1202 Words
The first day of school, and it's already stressful. I thought as I faceplanted on the pillow. It was all Shane's fault. If he wasn't around, I would've had a perfectly normal day. He had to ruin everything. But at least he wouldn't be around today. I thought as I remembered Molly asking him about going out. Shane was popular with girls, so there was no way Molly wouldn't keep him occupied all day which means he won't be coming over here and bothering me. Yes, Shane came over often since he was my brother's best friend, and it was annoying. I went downstairs to the kitchen and grabbed a snack. Jayce wasn't home, so it was just me all by myself. I got ready for a relaxing day. I changed into my bathing suit and went outside. It was nice and sunny out even though it was almost five. I lay down by the pool and closed my eyes. The cool breeze felt relaxing against my skin, making me sleepy. Pretty soon, I fell asleep without realizing it. I opened my eyes after a few minutes or hours and almost screamed. Shane was standing by and looking down at me. What the hell? "How long have you been standing there!" I exclaimed. "I just got here, nerd. Why are you sleeping outside?" he asked. His grey eyes were twinkling under the twilight. He sure was a handsome devil. A literal devil. "It was nice out. Why are you here? Didn't you have a date?" I asked. I was starting to feel exposed as he was looking at me while I lay here half-naked. "Keeping track of my dates? It ended early, if you must know. So I came here to harass you," he leaned down and smirked. I fidgeted uncomfortably. I didn't like the look on his face. I need to get inside before he does something to me. "Okay, well, thanks for the visit. I'm gonna go inside now," I said and tried to get up, but he pushed me down. "Hold on," he said. I squinted my eyes. "What? Why?" "You look hot," he grumbled. Huh? Was that a compliment? "What are you..." "You look hot," he repeated. "I should help you cool down." With that, he grabbed me and picked me up in his arms. "Hey! What the..." I cried as he threw me on his shoulder. I flailed my arms and legs around as I realized he was heading towards the pool. "Put me down, asshole! Shane!" But he wasn't listening. Too busy laughing. He tightly gripped my legs to stop me from kicking. He stopped at the edge of the pool then threw me in it. And that's when I died from drowning. Just kidding. I fell into the water with a large splash, flailing my arms around to regain my composure. Water seeped inside my mouth and nose, making me cough and choke. "Are you okay there, Anna banana? Nevermind, I don't care," Shane burst into laughter. "I hate you!" I screamed. "Aww come over here. I'll help you out of there," he cooed. He crouched down and extended his hands. Yeah, right, like I would trust him. "No thank you. I can get myself out by myself," I said. "I won't do anything. Grab my hand," he said. His face turned serious. I hesitated and proceeded to hold his hand, but he snatched it back. "PSYCHE!" he yelled and backed away. His eyes were glinting in delight. Jerk. I came out of the pool, shivering. It was a nice day to lie down outside but definitely not to take a dip in the pool. I went to grab the towel, but Shane snatched it away. "Give that to me!" I screeched. "Oh, you want this? Come get it," he said in a teasing tone. His eyes trailed up and down my body as if to inspect my every curve. I brought my arms to the front to hug myself. I think about running back inside the house. This towel ain't worth it! "Keep it!" I declared and ran back inside the house before he did anything else. What is this? Harass Anna day? Why do I have to deal with Shane at school and home? I changed into something warm and locked my bedroom door. I kept thinking about him staring at me with those intense eyes. I didn't feel creeped out, and I didn't hate it. My heart kept racing. A small part of me wanted Shane to be attracted to me, but there was no way that'd ever happen. Not to me, the nerdy Anna. I heard a small commotion downstairs. It sounded like Jayce was arguing with someone. I couldn't hold back my curiosity and headed downstairs. "I'm a senior now. You can't tell me what to do, Ma. I'm Eighteen years old!" Jayce yelled at my mom, who looked like she was on the verge of exploding. My mama didn't respond well to her kids' tantrum. Jayce was about to get his ass kicked. "I don't care if you're eighteen or thirty. You're living under my roof. You're gonna stay here and help your dad with his shop this Saturday," my mother announced. Her tone was firm and final. "Ma, please. This is one of the biggest parties thrown by the most popular girl. Everyone will be there. All my friends are counting on it me being there," Jayce looked like he was about to have a mental breakdown. I saw Shane leaned against the kitchen counter, watching the argument ensued. "What party?" I couldn't hold it in. All three of them looked at me. "Anna wants to go too. Are you going to deny both of us from having fun this weekend?" Jayce declared. "What?" I looked at him with confusion. I had no plans to go to a party. "Remember Sarah and James Alexander? They are having a party this Saturday that you wanted to go to so badly?" Jayce tried to hint at me to play along with him. Oh, I know James and Sarah. One of the most popular siblings in our school. Sarah was beautiful and always hung out with her three best friends, but once in a while, she threw a supposedly wild and crazy party. Her brother James was also very popular for his good looks. But I heard he was kind of a bully. I avoided them all and never went to any of their parties. "Anna can go if she wants to, but I need you in here," my mom said. Wait what? Since when did she allow her sixteen-year-old party with a bunch of seniors? "If Anna is going, I should go too so I can protect her as my little sister," Jayce declared. I coughed nervously. "It's okay. I'm not goi-..." I stopped talking as I felt a hand gripping my shoulder. Shane leaned over and whispered in my ear. "Keep your mouth shut." "Fine, you can go, but only if Anna is going," my mom relented. "Oh, she wouldn't miss it, Ms. Garcia," Shane was still holding my shoulder. Oh great...I guess I was going to a party.
