Chapter Two
Present day
Odelia POV
“Hey Lilly, can you please get me a cup of coffee from Starbucks on your break? I’ll extend it a half hour. If not that’s fine.” I say to my assistant in passing.
“Of course, Mrs. Langdon.”
“Oh come on, Lilly. Call me Delia.”
My best friend smiles at me, knowing that I hate her calling me by my last name in the office.
“Of course, Odelia.”
Lilly and I have a fantastic working relationship, and we are compatible outside of work.
In short, I love the girl.
“Reminder, you have a meeting with Aiden Sinner in ten.”
Oh s**t, I totally forgot. The guy who took interest in me for literally no reason in high school now wants to invest in the corporation I built ground up.
I absolutely will not let him. But I’m too civil to turn down a meeting all together.
“Oh, and Delia, your dads nurse called.”
I freeze. My father has a permanent room in the Sloane Kettering cancer center for the pancreatic cancer he was diagnosed with about five years ago.
“What did she say?” I ask.
Lilly pauses, clearly nervous to tell me.
“Lilly, I will not ask again. What. Did. She. Say?” I question dangerously.
“She said she had to talk to you. That it’s urgent.”
“Cancel the meeting. I’m going to the hospital.”
“But, Delia, you can’t miss this meeting. Not with Adrian Sinner. He’s too powerful to blow off.”
“And I love my dad far too much to care.” I say confidently.
I specifically bought out a building that would be only a 20 minute drive from Sloane Kettering. I hop into my car that’s always parked in front of the building and speed off to the hospital. 30 minutes later I’m walking into my father’s room. His nurse, Ellie, is adjusting his IV. He seems to be sleeping peacefully.
I’m slightly out of breath, but I still manage to smile and give Ellie a brief hug.
“What’s up, El? What’s going on?” I question after pulling away. She looks at me with a somber expression.
“After the last round of tests we found that basically no treatment will work. His time on earth is very limited.”
Fuck, I can’t loose my dad. ANYONE but my dad. He’s been my rock. He was next to me while I built my own corporation, and always gave me the best advice. He took tons of time away from his work to help me with the legal side of my business, as well as being the best emotional support.
I look over him, studying his serene facial expression and relaxed posture. He definitely does look skinnier and more vulnerable, which breaks my heart. I want nothing more to stay, but if I do I’ll be crying. I don’t want him to see my tear-streaked face when he wakes up.
So, wiping away the tears already running down my face, I back away.
“Call me with any and all news, and if I don’t pick up, call Lilly. She’ll relay everything to me. Also, please text me whenever he’s awake so I can come see him.”
Ellie smiles and nods.
I get the f**k out of there before I completely lose my s**t.
When I walk back to my office, Lilly is waiting for me with a nervous facial expression.
“What is it, Lil?” I question, exhaustion evident in my tone.
“Aiden Sinner, he insisted on waiting. He’s in the conference room right now.” She tells me.
Damnit. Just like in high school, the man doesn’t back down. I look like an absolute mess now.
“He can wait another five minutes while I make myself presentable” I mutter. I put on concealer to hide the fact that I’ve been crying, and re-apply my signature red lipstick. I skip out on eyeliner, not wanting to try too hard for somebody I refuse to work with.
Once I’m done I walk out of my office and towards the conference room. When I pass Lilly I briefly instruct her to put away my makeup and tidy up my office.
I straighten my dress and take a deep breath before walking into the conference room.
“Mr. Sinner. We really could have rescheduled” I say warmly as a greeting. While carefully closing the door behind me.
I look up at him, and realize that’s the biggest mistake I could have made. Jesus Christ, Aiden was hot as a boy- but now? He could be deemed the sexiest man alive. I have to put all of my effort into remaining composed in his presence.
“Mrs. Langdon” He greets, standing from his chair and looking down the length of my body.
Yeah, I’ve definitely gotten hotter since high school. I’ve actually had several offers to be named “Sexiest woman of the year”, but always turned them down. I keep my life professional. I don’t have time for novelties such as men.
Aiden walks over to me and extends his hand. When I put mine in it, instead of shaking, he brings my hand up to his lips, pressing a feather light kiss that leaves me on cloud nine.
I snap myself out of my ridiculous attraction, and decide to get to business. We both take a seat at the conference room table, across from each other, and I smile.
“Mr. Sinner, I have been told that you are here with intentions of investing in my corporation. Is that correct?”
“It is correct, Ms. Langdon.”
I take an internal breath.
“As lovely as that sounds, I don’t really allow investors, because I don’t need them. I’m sorry to have wasted your time, but I’m afraid that we will not be working together.”
I watch uncertainly as Aiden leans back in his chair.
“How’s your father?” he questions, making me tense immediately. “Because I heard that he’s on deaths door” Aiden continues. I bite my tongue to prevent myself from yelling and screaming at this despicable asshole.
“You likely don’t know this, but I am currently invested in a company that is testing out new methods of treatment for various cancers, one of them being pancreatic cancer. So far their test trials have had a 100% success rate, and are about to be exposed to a small portion of the public.”
I swear if he’s about to blackmail me…
“See, I can get a team of doctors to save your fathers life. To easily give him another few decades to live. Do you want that, Odelia?”
I stay silent. Why would he go through this trouble just to invest in my company?
I lean forward and fold my hands on the table, interlacing my fingers.
“Cut the s**t, Aiden. What do you want?” I ask, allowing a healthy amount of anger to seep into my words.
“You.” He responds simply.
I chuckle. “Very funny, Mr. Sinner. But I’m not in a joking mood, seeing as I just found out that my father is dying. Now I’d offer you a ridiculous sum of money- but your even richer than I am. Which is frankly absurd and shouldn’t be possible, but that’s a whole different topic. Now I’ll ask again, what the f**k do you want?”
“I’m not joking, Delia.”
“Don’t call me that!” I snap. “Only my closest friends are allowed to call me that.”
“I don’t give a s**t, considering we are about to become exceedingly close. So shut up and let me speak. I want you. I am an honorable man coming from a fantastic background, so it baffles me in the first place how you’ve never wanted me. But now, six years after the first time I pursued you for the first time, I can confidently say that it’s about damn time I have you. So. If you want your father to live, you will marry me. My family has been wanting you as my wife for quite a while now, so I assure you there will be no difficulties on that front. I will never push for children unless you want them. I’m fine with or without them. I will never hit or hurt you unless I’m punishing you during s*x, but that will be within reason and ideally pleasurable. Speaking of s*x, you will be my submissive in the bedroom. Meaning I can tie you up, spank you, overstimulate you, f**k you into next week, and you can’t stop me.”
So basically I will be his wife and his s*x slave.
“This is a lifetime thing, and I will have a lawyer to draft a contract for you to sign. You will need to play the part of the loving wife in public, until you actually fall in love with me. And I assure you, you will. In return for this I will give your dad the best available care. Are we clear?”
I take a deep breath. “So I can keep my company? No investment?”
“No investment. Just you.”
I suppress a maniacal laugh. Just me? That’s not a small thing, and this prick should do well to remember that.
But my father has always been willing to sacrifice his life for me. It’s time I do the same.
“Fine. I’ll do it.”
