As he watched Jameson and his people leaving, Kevin had a feeling that they would be back later that night. It didn’t frighten him in the least though, after all, he was the leader of Lion. If he was unable to handle such a small situation, he shouldn’t have that position.
There was more on his mind; he made an excuse that he wanted more information about the company. He couldn't offer any help in the office even though he was an assistant to the president. He walked to the personnel department, took a quick look in, and was about to leave when he heard a voice from the personnel manager's office.
"Mr. Jameson, why did you leave?”
Kevin stopped at once and listened quietly to the phone conversation at the door.
The human resource manager, Edward Black, had worked for the company for many years. The Jameson family arranged for him to work there but never used him for much.
“There is a man around Emily, can you investigate him for me? I want to know everything about him and his background.”
With Kevin's acute hearing, he heard that it was Jameson on the other end of the call.
"Well, what I know for now is that she arranged for him to be her assistant. I guess he is her boyfriend,” Edward explained.
"Damn, are you completely useless? You need to talk to him and get more information. Just go check on him. Also, didn't you mention that the lead security guard is your nephew? So, why the hell did one of his men stop me today?”
Kevin suddenly understood why Jameson walked into Emily’s office without any fear. He began to worry that there were too much drama and horrible people working for her. He felt bad for Emily, but he grinned; he might be able to use Edward and the security guard.
Edward hung up the phone and saw that Kevin was in the hallway smoking a cigarette.
"f**k! Who the f**k are you? And why do you think you can smoke here?" Edward swore. His job was to control the staff's behavior, and smoking was not allowed inside the building. He took his role so seriously that most people just went in the other direction when they saw Edward; even if they weren't doing anything wrong, he would find something to reprimand them for.
“Hey! I am talking to you! Don’t you know you can’t smoke inside? You will have to pay the $500 fine!” Seeing Kevin ignoring him, Edward stepped forward and slapped him on the shoulder.
Kevin swiftly moved out of the way and grabbed Edward’s wrist.
"That hurts! Stop it! Let go of me before I have you fired!” Edward shouted. He never thought someone would stand up to him.
"Who the f**k are you to slap me?" Kevin asked coldly.
Suddenly, Edward realized that the man in front of him was Kevin; he hoped that he hadn't heard him talking about him.
"Oh, Kevin, you were coming down here. Don't take what I said seriously."
Kevin let go of his hand, and Edward sighed, "I am sorry, but we do have rules here. We are not permitted to smoke in the hallways or anywhere in the building. Why don't we go into my office, though? You can shut the door, and nobody will know. It can be our secret."
After thinking for a moment, Kevin nodded in agreement. Edward was thrilled; he would have a chance to get to know him better and could pass the information onto Jameson.
“Please accept my apology again, Kevin. Have you trained somewhere? You are extremely strong. I think we can be friends if we get to know each other. As you know, I don't have any of your files," Edward commented while he poured each of them a cup of tea.
"I am your boss's fiancé, and so she gave me a position at her company. I used to be a soldier…" Kevin paused on purpose to get Edward thinking, but there was no way he was going to find anything to use against him.
"Oh, wow! That is so cool! You two are perfect for each other!" Edward laughed, happy that he found out about Kevin's training experience.
“So, I heard that Jameson was here today and hit our security guard, is that true?” Kevin asked.
"Yes, that security guard wasn’t very tough. He was scared.”
"I don’t know if that is true! I think he is a nice man. Maybe you should promote him to the head of security. What do you think?”
"Hmm..." Edward pretended as if he was thinking it over.
"If you can't do it then, I will ask Emily. I am sure she will make it happen,” Kevin smiled.
"Of course, I can!" Edward agreed to promote the guard immediately so that he would not get into trouble. He cautiously asked, "And, what about the former head of the security? What will happen to him?"
"Just give him back his previous position. He was dumb anyway; he couldn't even stop someone from getting in. By the way, if you do your job here, I can let Emily know and ask her to give you a promotion."
"Yeah, thanks!" Edward exclaimed.
No matter what Kevin asked of him, Edward had to find a way to make it happen. If he refused to help, then Kevin would cause trouble for him.
Knowing he had no choice, Edward nodded and said, “Sure, I will talk to the guards and have them trained for their positions.”
Kevin nodded in satisfaction, "Perfect! Why don't you get them now and bring them here? I would like to see them, and if the previous leader starts to argue, then you just fire him."
A frown appeared on Edward's face; he had planned to put pressure on the security guard so that he would quit and his nephew could continue to run security. However, Kevin ruined his plans, and there was nothing he could say.
What Edward didn't know was that Kevin had a plan of his own. He would use the opportunity to punish Edward's nephew and have someone who would be grateful to him in the future.
A few minutes later, the head security guard and the injured guard walked into Edward's office. Kevin glanced at them and sneered; the injured man only had a slight bruise and gave the impression that he might be a former soldier. He looked a bit closer at the head guard; he looked like the type who only wanted to party and blame others for his mistakes. Kevin was not going to give Jameson another chance to get into the building.
Edward was a smart man; he quickly introduced Kevin as Emily's fiancé and then told them about the change in their positions. The former head of security, Barton Long, would be a regular guard; while, Dean Brown was promoted to the director of security as of that moment.
Barton was furious, but there was nothing he was able to do in front of Kevin. He smirked and nodded without complaint.
