Chapter 16 Encountering Sophie

1117 Words
Emily wanted to check in with Kevin after he was done at the police station. After all, he was a victim, so she wanted to make sure the police hadn’t caused trouble for him. He explained that they took a statement and let him go. However, the moment he walked by her, she smelt perfume.   "Was it a policewoman who took your statement?” Emily asked suspiciously.   "Yeah," Kevin gave her a sarcastic smile, "She was crazy."   “I hope you can get some sleep,” She said with a relieved smile and then went upstairs. She knew she was overthinking way too much about Kevin.   Once Emily shut her bedroom door, Kevin sighed and looked around. There was a painting that caught his attention; he moved closer to it. As he was about to touch it, his phone rang.   He looked at the caller ID, but it was an encrypted number from a satellite phone.   "Hello?" Kevin answered the phone.   "Leader, those five audio monitors in the house are from us!" A delighted voice came from the other end.   "Damn, Herman! Why did you come into the house? Why did you install them? What is wrong with you?"   The man was Herman from Special Forces; he didn't seem to be very smart when he was training under Kevin. He was the worst on the team, but he had his own talent. His hacking abilities were top-notch, and he knew everything there was to know about electronics. Typically, people would not be able to find his audio monitors, but Kevin also had his own talents.   "Boss, listen to me, please! It was your mother's idea. She said that the law is ruthless and especially the laws enforced by the military. If you live with two pretty women, you may not be able to control yourself, and a simple mistake could happen. We would be able to rescue if something occurred. She said it would be good for you."   "I..." Kevin felt very uncomfortable; the thoughts were making him feel sick to his stomach.   "Boss, please, don't be mad with us," Herman pleaded.   "Fine, you guys always surprise me anyway!" Kevin said with a forced smile, “Anyway, I am just in a bad mood today. I think I will go get a drink since I am rich now.”   Kevin had got his first $5000 bonus, which in the past would have been pocket change; he always had access to billions of dollars on his card. However, things were different; he could now drink even if he only had minimal finances. When he was on the team, drinking was prohibited.   Herman was distraught when he asked, “Boss, you did it on purpose, right?”   They had installed audio monitors in his home, so there was no reason why he couldn't tease them back, Kevin thought to himself. He heard Herman whimpering on the phone; he didn't want to listen to a speech, so Kevin hung up.   After changing to something casual, Kevin grabbed his bank card and contemplated what he should do. He decided to jump out the window and go to the famous bar in the city, Purple Bar.   The bar was overcrowded every night, they not only had a great atmosphere, but the drink prices were reasonable. The owner, Adela James, was famous; she was one of the most beautiful women in Pittsburgh. Some people came to dance, and others came to admire her beauty even though she wasn’t nice to everyone.   Adela grew up on the tough streets, once a rich man fell in love with her, forced her to do something she didn't want to. Then the next day, people saw him in a wheelchair. Since then, people realized that if they were going to flirt with her, they needed to be careful. Rumors were that she would secretly poison anyone who dared to tease her inappropriately.   When Kevin walked into the bar, he still had no idea why he was there. He felt good though and ordered a drink; he listened to the music and relaxed. He could hear people chatting and flirting all around him. He noticed that a few young men with expensive taste were teasing a group of girls dancing.   As he continued to look around, he saw the DJ was dancing and drinking. Then saw the dark corner of the bar, a beautiful woman was sitting there watching everyone.     Kevin was shocked to see Mona there but was he supposed to call her Sophie or Mona. After all, she hadn't been pleased when he called her by her nickname.   Some of her work colleagues teased Sophie, so she decided to stop for a drink on the way home. She was still furious at Kevin and vowed if she saw him, she would kill him. She knew she couldn't actually kill him because she was a police officer, and they can't just shoot people for no reason. However, he seemed to be a criminal, he should have a record, and then he could be punished.   A huge smile appeared on Sophie's face when she thought about arresting him and getting her revenge. Even though she knew it wasn't right to think about shooting him, she still wanted to punish him. It was an eternal struggle that caused her to feel like she would lose her mind; she needed to get him out of her head. If she couldn't teach him a lesson, she would never feel satisfied.   Watching Sophie drink nearly half a bottle of wine in one gulp, Kevin was impressed. He could tell she was a wild woman just by looking at her. He took a few steps toward her; he wanted to see if she would have a drink with him.   "Hey, Joshua, she is pretty, isn't she?" A man from a group passing by, Sophie commented.   The leader, presumably Joshua, was a large man, and his shirt was partially undone, revealing a tiger's head tattoo on his chest. He had three other men following closely behind him when he stopped to glance at Sophie and smile.   He thought she was pretty, but he was on a mission. Thinking that she might be gone when he returned, he decided to have some fun with her before he went any further. He took a few steps toward Sophie and the bar waving his hand to get the waiter's attention. Joshua turned to Sophie, "Hey, pretty lady! Why are you drinking alone? Come on, waiter, bring us some good wine. Shall we have a drink together?"   Joshua pulled up a stool and sat down when he heard her say, “Move away!”
