she sacrificed herself. gave her life for all of her people. David sat in the hospital his body and mind numb. he waited for the doctors to come and get him. they quietly came out and David could see the sadness in their eyes. they avoided looking at him. David dropped to his knees screaming out for help. his heart ripping into a million pieces. he felt hands helping him up and bringing him to his feet. he couldn't breathe. his chest felt like it was constricting a vice stopping him from feeling anything but grief. it was like he was not in control of his body any longer and he felt his feet moving into the direction of his life, his love, his little fairy. he needed to be close to her, to hold her and to touch her. he couldn't accept that she was gone. he couldn't wrap his mind around her death. this was not how it was supposed to happen. He needed her. She gave him life. He didn't know how to live without her.
he made it to the room that she was brought to. he opened the door walking through and gasped as he saw her lifeless body lying there. her arms lay at her side and her body was pale and not moving. her chest no longer rose and fell with life, and he came to her side grabbing her body to him and holding her to his chest. he fell to the ground with her in his arms. the doctor and nurses came to take Abby away, but he growled at them until they backed away. He wasn't giving her up. he couldn't let her go. she was his life.
there was a babbling brook. a cascading wall of ferns down the mountain side. Abby sat on the embankment as her eyes were closed soaking in the sun. there was a smile on her face as she felt at peace. a blanket of calm keeping her warm. a woman came walking over sitting next to her. the woman's long beautiful hair flowing in the slight breeze. for a few moments they sat there not talking just taking in the peace that surrounded them. the woman took her hand and rested it on Abby's. " You gave yourself to save many lives from pain and suffering my child."
Abby smiled and turned towards her. " I knew it had to be done. a life to give life." Abby sat for a moment before turning back to watch the water move effortlessly down. Flowing life as it went. " You knew this was going to happen. "
" I knew you had a choice but that those choices each had a consequence. you chose selflessness." they sat quietly a while longer and Abby could hear birds chirping in the forest behind her.
" Moon Goddess?"
" Yes dear?"
" Will my family be, ok? will you help them learn to live?" the birds chirping grew louder. Abby turned to look at the moon Goddess as she began to fade away.
" You gave of yourself without even thinking. your family needs you, Abby. you need to go back."
Abby stood up suddenly and laughed. " You mean I get a second chance?"
" Follow the light back to your life my dear. you are still needed." a small breeze swirled around her, and the sun turned dark until the dark surrounded her. she felt the cold taking over then a light suddenly appeared at the end of the darkness. Abby cautiously walked through the dark following it to the light. it felt like hours of walking as she moved closer to the light. she finally was there in front of the light. she could feel the warmth on her skin. the moon Goddesses words repeating in her mind, follow the light back to your life. she took a deep breath and stepped into the light.
David held his wife tightly as he kissed her forehead. he cried until he no longer had tears to cry. everyone stood around him afraid to come closer. " Little fairy I love you. I can't live without you. I need you. Please come back to me. Please."
" Then don't live without me." everyone's mouths dropped in disbelief. Abby's eyes fluttered open looking into David's her emerald green coming to life sparkling like jewels. David began crying again pulling her closer to him. not wanting to let her go out of fear.
" Abby? you were..." she reached her hand to cup his cheek he turned to kiss her palm. she smiled up at him.
" the moon Goddess sent me back." she wrapped her arms around him holding him as tight as he held her. the doctors and staff finally came to their senses and rushed to her and David on the ground.
" we need to check her and make sure she is OK your majesty." they bowed a little uneasy at how he would react. he nodded letting her go as they brought her back to the bed in the room. they took blood and gave her an IV and checked her head to toe just making sure she was in the clear. the doctor smiled happily as he gave them both a nod. " we need to wait for all the tests to come back but from what I can see everything looks good. she is in great health and should be able to go home in a day or two depending on the blood work. I will let you two be alone while we get a more comfortable room set up for you." he bowed his head and left right away.
" don't ever leave me again." David was sobbing as he spoke. His voice little more than a whisper.
" David, " Abby sighed as she closed her eyes. her body was exhausted, and she could feel sleep wash over her. " I didn't want to leave you but I had to save our people even if they were fighting to not have me. they were worth the sacrifice. " she slipped into a deep sleep as she felt his lips gently on her forehead. she was everything to him. she had become the very breath he needed to live without her he was nothing. he knew she made him a better man and a better king.
" I love you little fairy." Abby felt her body lift as she felt like she drifted through the air. she nuzzled into David's chest stirring slightly but not waking up. she felt like she was being placed on a cloud and felt David slide in next to her as his arms wrapped around her filling her with love and peace at his touch.
she slept for what felt like days. when she finally woke up she could see she had been moved into another room. the sun was beating down in her room brightly warming the room as she lay there. she could smell David on the pillow next to her but when her eyes turned the bed was empty. she sat up looking around the room she was in and it was empty. suddenly the door opened and David walked in looking every bit as delicious as his body was fit and toned. he was wearing a t-shirt that showed off his rippled chest as he walked in closer to her carrying a tray of food. he set it down next to her and smiled. " are you checking me out?"
Abby looked sheepishly she knew she had been caught. he was definitely a beautiful sight. " no, I was checking out what you brought me for breakfast. " he grinned from ear to ear as she tried to play it off.
" mmmm little fairy when you get better I will bring you breakfast every single day as long as I get to taste you every single night." he brushed his lips on her neck below her ear as he spoke. his hot air fanning across her skin spreading goosebumps and tingles.
" even me dying doesn't stop you!" she giggled at her husband. " since you brought me coffee I think I can make that deal with you though." she picked up her coffee taking a sip. her heart was over joyed at having David by her side. " is the war over?"
" yes. you ended it with your sacrifice. actually every Lycan and wolf knelt down on their knees as I carried you. because of you everyone just stopped fighting. " David shrugged his shoulders as he spoke. Like giving her life was an every day occurrence." there has never been a queen given more respect from both Lycan and wolves before. " Abby sipped her coffee while they sat in silence. she couldn't believe her sacrifice stopped an entire war from continuing. she leaned into his shoulder and sighed. she was grateful to the moon Goddess for giving her one more chance to be with her family. she gave up a silent thank you for allowing her to live again. she was eternally grateful. she couldn't wait to go home and be with er son and with David.
