CHAPTER TWO Mark watched Lily cross the floor and then sat back in his chair. He wasn’t sure that letting her go had been smart. She disappeared through a swinging door on the side of the large room, and he was afraid that she wouldn’t return. Then, he recalled her bags. They were all there, inclusively her handbag, so he sighed with relief. With nothing to do, Mark looked for his cell phone in his pocket. He checked it for messages and frowned. No one had tried to call or text him for over twenty-four hours. That had never happened in the past for such a long time. As a rule, he had a hard time to field all the calls or texts coming his way. He thought better and concluded that something had gone seriously wrong. At that thought, his eyebrows bunched together.
