I wake up early the next morning and both Carol and Christian are out like a light.
I make myself a cup of coffee and then take stock of my environment. The walls are all covered with color marks. I can see Grey's drawings destroyed. He has broken pieces of glass of god knows what in the trash. What did Carol do? I shouldn't have left her alone with Grey. She can really act out when she wants to. I thought she'd give him a bit of trouble but not like this. The TV is destroyed. Carol was here? Really? I look at her and she looks so innocent sleeping that it's hard to believe that she's the one causing all the destruction.
I wake Carol up gently. She looks at Christian and is horribly upset. She hugs my neck.
"I was bad, daddy. Sowie. I pushed us off the stairs." She says and breaks into sobs. I take her outside and make her breakfast after she has calmed down a little. She did not have anything yesterday is my guess.
"You know what you did was wrong, ever before you did it. I don't know what to tell you any more." I tell her after she is done. Her eyes fill up with tears.
"Daddy Pweasee... I sowieee. Gimme punishment." She cries softly.
"I don't know what to do with you anymore. Nothing seems to work." I am so disappointed in her.
"Spank me with the belt... "
She is petrified of the belt. Boy, she is feeling miserable.
"Nope. I have thought of something else." She looks at me nervously but eager.
"You won't talk to or see Christian until his arm is healed and he has recovered."
She cries heartbreaking sobs.
"If you don't appreciate his company, you don't deserve it."
"Daddy pleasee... I want to tell him sowie... He would hateee me"
"I am sure he doesn't hate you. You can apologize after he recuperates. I thought you would be a good girl and accept the permission you know you deserve." I tell her sternly.
She is crying. I pick her up and kiss her cheek.
"I am calling Ron to babysit you. He might have to do that for some days now. I will need to be here for Christian and you cannot." I grab my phone and call Ron. He agrees instantly. Thank God for friends.
"You won't give him trouble, will you?" I ask.
She shakes her head looking ashamed.
"Good girl." I kiss her cheek.
Before leaving with Ron she kisses Grey's cheek and whispers something in his ear.
Grey is still out like a light and it is afternoon. I call G because I am worried. He assures me it’s the meds and he will wake up when his body is ready. I remind him to stop by in the evening.
I take a shower and cook lunch checking onto Grey every twenty minutes or so.
He finally wakes up by the time I am done with lunch.
"Hey.. How are you feeling?" I help him sit up very carefully.
"Thirsty." He croaks.
I get him water and he downs a glass in seconds.
"Thanks. Carol okay?"
"Yeah, she is okay."
He breathes a sigh of relief. He looks exhausted.
"You need to have something before you go back to sleep again," I tell him.
"I am not feeling like food."
"I know, but you got to have something. Have some soup. I made you soup."
I help him with his soup.
"Hey, my right hands fine. I can eat," he smiles. I let him be, reluctantly. He is trying not to wince, the pain killer's worn off it seems.
"Should I call G and ask him for some painkillers? He'll be stopping by in the evening though."
"Nah, I'll be fine."
I don't push it.
"What happened, Christian?" I ask him after he is done with the soup.
"I was carrying her upstairs for a bath. I slipped on a toy on the stairs."
"Really? What about the room? Your TV?" This is ludicrous.
"You know how carried away I get with her.. We were having fun... We... "
"Shut it, you moron! Why didn't you give me a call when she was giving you so much trouble?"
He looks exhausted.
"f**k off." He tells me. I help him lie back down. I kiss him.
"I will be the worst daddy ever. Thank f**k I don't have a little of my own."
I roll my eyes.
"Stop being dramatic. You know that's not it. You know Carol can be ... difficult... "
"Where is she? Taking a nap? Tell me you did not spank her? She was so upset at it is... "
"I did not. She's not here. Ron is babysitting her." I tell him. He nods.
"Rest, I'll wake you up when G drops by. You sure you don't want to have something else for lunch?"
"I'm good. Thanks, Jay. Love you." He says and drifts off to sleep.
Love you? Does he love me?
Nah. That's the drugs. He is on painkillers. And with fractured ribs and arms, one cannot think straight.
I had no plans of waking him up before G arrives but he is already up and withering in pain. I call G. He will take another hour to come.
He just has a little water and is trying to be all cool but I know he is hurting as f**k.
"He'll be here soon Christian. I am sorry... "
He laughs," I am fine."
"Sure." I roll my eyes.
Dr. G comes and checks Christian. His head looks fine thankfully. We will have to go for a scan if he feels dizzy. He is not dizzy he says.
"Okay all you need is the painkiller and then you're good to go."
"The shot? Again?" Christian looks annoyed.
"I'm afraid you'll have to take one for a couple of days."
"It's okay. Consider this your punishment for not giving me a call when you should've." I tell him as I help him turn around.
