Chapter 90: Toto's mission

“Why did you kill him?”
“I already said it to you… I have to accumulate more points so that I can survive this death game… If I die here… If I die here… Who will save my people? I must survive and earn lots of money. That is my mission on having a journey.”
Toto said.
She cleans the dagger by swinging the blade at full force. The blood splatters on the ground.
I’m in no position to criticize what she’d done. It was my belief to oppose her doing. In her belief, she is merely doing this so she can survive this death. She is neither right nor wrong.
“I’m going ahead to face Audrey, who is currently staying in the castle in the center of this island… I have no idea how powerful this angel's ability was, but I don’t have much of a choice. My choice is only two… Fight Audrey or die in this death game.”
“I want to go with you.”
“I just said that I’m going to the castle… It would be dangerous for you if you came.”
“I may not look like it, but I am also strong… I’m well trained at surviving and adapting to the battlefield. In addition, staying with someone I know that’s not an enemy would put my heart at ease. Please let me come.”
She kinda reminded me of Shaymi in how she acts.
Toto is one of the adventurers recruited by Olivia. She is capable of fighting.

Toto nodded in response.
I don’t want to have another burden on my heart. If somebody died in front of me. I don’t want to blame myself for not doing anything.
Just like Cake and Eula… I don’t want those feelings to lurk in my heart anymore. I won’t say I want these feelings to vanish. I just have enough of feeling this heaviness. Carrying it on my journey.
“Could I join this small party of yours?”
“Four eyes.”
“That is not my name… Well, I don’t have a proper introduction. My name is Norman. We have already seen each other on the monster train this past month. I didn’t expect that I would be able to see you here again.”
“Same with me… Also, my name is Hanayuki. What is your motivation?”
“That was a surprise… A blunt response.”
“I could not see a cursor on your head nor a human presence in your body. While on the train, you use substitutes. You’re one sketchy character, I suppose.”
“That was true… I’m an informant from the revolutionary squad in the spy division. My job is to investigate and gather information around the world. I don’t like putting myself in danger. That’s why I use my substitute to do the job. Am I at the party? Or not?”
I have nothing to hide in my life. He is not a player. Backstabbing us is not likely to happen. He even confessed that he was part of the revolutionary squad.
Toto walked to me and whispered.
“This guy is shady… Is it fine to let him in?”
“True, but he could be helpful to us… Mister Normal, could you use magic using your substitute?”
I asked.
“Yup, I can… I charge my substitute magical power. I could not replenish it through.”
“Fine, we’ll take you in with us… I don’t know how many players we’re encountering inside the castle. I need some people to use as pawns.”
“Seeing me as pawns… That kinda paints me… But it's fine. Fighting in this deathmatch is unavoidable. I can handle myself if such a thing happened. But before we made our journey to the castle… I had something to do first.”
Normal quickly drew his gun and directly shot Toto in her forehead.
“What the?!”
“The traitor who sold us out to Audrey put everyone in this game. But one bullet on her forehead might not be enough to kill her.”
Norman stated and made another shot. This time, the bullet was dodged by Toto. She took the dagger at her waist, attempting to strike my neck.
I avoided the blade and armed her arm.
“My cover has been blown… I’m already doing a good job at acting… Hanayuki is already believing me. All I have to do is kill you at the moment you won’t know.”
“I was an i***t to believe you in your silly story.”
“That wasn’t a lie… Audrey told me that I would receive a handsome amount of money after I followed some of her orders. My mission is not changing, I’m ready to do anything to free my people from that ice-cold country. I’ll do anything for my family… Even if it means killing strangers like you.”
She overpowered my strength and slammed me down to the ground. Normal fires another shot, but is immediately blocked by her dagger.
At amazing speed, she comes close to Norman.
“Resonate!”
Toto cuts Norman into his cheeks, causing drops of blood to drip. Normal was then astonished for some reason.
“Resonate… A magic that could hit someone’s soul. This is unexpected. Resonate was a kind of magic only found in old witchcraft.”
“Witchcraft is normal in our land… We often use straw dolls to directly kill our enemies… Something like that.”
Toto took a straw doll from her sleeve. She wipes the blood from her dagger using the straw doll.
“?!”
“Lightning punch!”
“Barrier!”
I don’t know what she’s going to do.
Based on her terrified expression of Norman, it is something very sinister. Better take the straw doll away from her.
“Lightning whip!”
A whip made out of lighting embraced the straw doll. Snatching it away from Toto. Throwing it up in the sky, I unleashed a bolt of lightning to burn it to crisp.
“Resonance!”
Hit the straw doll with lighting. Norman screamed in pain.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
What in the world happened?
“The straw doll acts as a proxy for the user's intended target once they've established a connection with them. Using Resonance, the user can pierce the straw doll and effectively do the same to their target at the same time. This gives the straw doll a limitless magic range as long as the user has a piece of their target to establish a connection… One’s straw you attack the straw doll. The target will feel the same pain as the straw doll. Burning down the straw doll with lightning. The target also suffers the same pains. Being killed by a bolt of lightning is one of the painless ways to die. She made a scream. I think he felt it.”

Does that mean… I accidentally killed somebody?
I shook my head and stepped back a little.

Refusing to the very idea of everyone telling her.
Memories of her killing coldly appeared in her mind. The people she could not protect. The death that happened right before her eyes.
Hanayuki knew how evil her deeds were. She knew that her tainted hands could not be washed.
But still, she doesn’t want to believe that she is evil.
Who wants to know that they are evil? A human brain will come up with a reason why that happened. Why are evil things made? The human brain will continue to search for a reason so that a sinner can justify himself.
Evil incarnate
Ever since that name was called to her. She keeps on thinking about it. What if she is who she truly is from the very start? Can she still accept who she truly is?
Or Hanayuki’s mind would break apart. Drowning her into insanity.
Her mind was unable to process properly. Hanayuki lost herself and fell unconsciously.
Toto was confused about what had just happened. She poked Hanayuki’s cheeks with her finger, trying to wake her up.
“Hey… hey… I wanted to kill you… My mission is to bring you to Audrey and convince you to join us. Hey, I can’t carry you. We’re of the same height and weight.”
“Evil incarnate.”
“Huh? You already awake?”
“Evil incarnate…It's been a while since I heard that name again. You dare to touch my face with your dirty hands.”
Toto’s arms were severed in an instant. So fast, Toto could not feel any pain from it.
Hanayuki stood up with her beautiful pair of emerald eyes replaced with scarlet ones.
“An actress should take her out of her face the most. Or else my career will be in danger.”
Toto was stunned to see the girl in front of her wasn’t the same as the girl she'd seen earlier.
“... Evil incarnate… You’re the Evil incarnate aren’t you?”
