17. One Useful Gift

Rosabelle's POV- "Do you think it is a good idea? I think you should back out. There is still time, Rose. We can say you suddenly got sick!" Nina exclaims again and I roll my eyes again. "Don't you think they'd know why I 'suddenly' got sick?" I ask her while caressing my clothes for the combat.  I wonder if Dargan would like me in these. Well... I know I love myself in these. "They won't question you." Nina insists and I turn to her. "Nina, I'm doing this," I say with the tone of finality. She frowns and starts roaming in the whole chamber pretending to fix the things that are already fixed, all the while ranting her worry. "Do you ever listen to me? Never! You always do what you like and get in trouble! I have told you so many times that this is not your previous home and you cannot get into trouble here. Do you remember how many times you climbed the trees back at home and got into trouble with Alpha James? You used to get out and disguise yourself as a local just to take a stroll in the Kingdom and got away with it as well because it was your fathers home. This is not. Your father let go of all your mischief but here you can't live expecting your father to handle everything. You need to rule beside your husband and do the right things. You are married now and you must help him take care of the Kingdom. He expects you to and you must. This is your home now-" I cut her off mid-sentence. "Why are you dragging this talk? Do you even remember what we were talking about? You were convincing me to not have combat with Roald not about never leaving Dargan's side." I say looking at her as she is frowning looking down at the floor. "You do know what I'm talking about, and that is far more important than this combat." She says finally looking at me with worry and concern. Sometimes she just worries too much. "I do know. I just want you to know that I'm not leaving Dargan. Whatever happens, I'll accept it as my destiny. If I fail, I'll die and if I don't then, Dargan and I will rule beside each other on the two strongest Kingdoms in the world." I say holding her by her shoulders. "You will ask for the merciful combat. You won't die. You must accept your defeat. No dying." She says like a mother and I nod my head at her trying not to chuckle as she commands me. "I'm joking, Rose! You'll ask the merciful combat!" She commands and I bow a little. "As you wish my Queen!" I exclaim and she blushes profusely making me laugh at her reaction.  "Do you remember how we used to play Queen and worker? Sometimes you'd be the queen and I'd be your worker." I remind her chuckling. "Yes and I'll either be a worker or a scared cat because I was always afraid Mom will catch me ordering you," Nina says shaking her head. "And then you eventually stopped playing." I roll my eyes at her while pulling out my sword from its b*****e. "Of course, I did. What did you expect me to do?" "To continue playing!" I chip pointing my sword in every direction and titling it to check its pointy end. "Of course you did. You didn't care my mother would kill me. But you must care now. You must take care of yourself and be aware all the time. Yesterday, one of the noblemen cut the man's tongue who spoke ill about you and because of fear now, no one would but that doesn't mean they won't try to hurt you." She says while my gaze gets stuck at a particular chest box.  "That's the reason why I'm having this combat. Once they know I'm strong enough, they'll respect me. Moreover, after I win my real fight, they'll shower me with their love." I say while moving to the box and caressing it. I place the sword aside and Nina keeps it back in its scabbard before coming beside me. "The chest full of precious gifts!" She exclaims dramatically and I smile at her before opening the chest. I still wonder why you gave me all these gifts Advisor Winston. "I forgot to place it somewhere. After we have come here, I didn't have time to place this somewhere and the table looked empty." Nina says while I caress the white feather in the chest. My eyes roam over the round box with numbers from one to three written on it. A lantern that never gets lit no matter how many times I try. A thin white crystal lace. It is hard and pretty. Long enough even. "It's a beautiful lace. I think you should at least have this added to something." She says while I admire it.  I look over to the other nine uncanny things before shutting the chest with the lace still in my hands. "Let it be here. Don't move the chest." I say and she nods confusedly. I grip the lace tighter and keep it with my clothes for the combat.  I think it'll serve as a pleasant accessory.
