Rosabelle's POV-
"Good Morning, Vaidya," I say entering the room filled with the smell of herbs. The old man standing in front of me turns to look at me and bows lightly.
"My Queen." He says before returning to his work.
"I wanted to ask about Princess Eleanor. I sent for you to check upon her, Vaidya..."
"The old man's name is Kalm." He says and I smile though he isn't facing me.
"Vaidya Kalm. Did you check upon her?" I ask him.
"I wouldn't have dared refuse you. I did go, the guards stopped me but I still went when I told them about your order. But we didn't find her inside. She was nowhere in her chamber." He says turning towards me.
"Did the guards find her anywhere?" I ask him.
"They did. She was found sleeping in her bed this morning. I checked upon her. She is alright." He says
"Thank you, Vaidya Kalm. I should go and check upon her." I say before taking my leave.
How is this possible? How could they find her nowhere the whole night?
I reach Eleanor's chamber and notice that there are more guards than the last time. I get inside without giving them a second glance and find Eleanor standing beside a table reading something.
She lifts her head to look at me and goes back to reading.
"Good Morning, Eleanor. I hope you feel fine now." I say and she doesn't reply.
"I sent one of the Vaidyas yesterday. Vaidya Kalm is his name I believe. He couldn't find you yesterday, even the guards couldn't..." I stop when I notice she doesn't care.
"Is there something wrong? Did I do something wrong?" I ask moving closer to her.
"Eleanor..." I stare at her as she continues ignoring me.
"Eleanor, talk to me. You need to talk to me. I won't leave-" I say but she cuts me off.
"You'll complain to the Alpha? If I don't talk and befriend you, you'll tell Alpha. Tell me how do you want me to be? Do you want me to be the joking type? Do you want me to be the shy type? Or you want me to be the bubbly little girl type?" She asks coming around the desk and standing in front of me.
"I don't want you to be anything or anyone. Just be you and tell me if I have done something wrong. Why do you seem to dislike me?" I ask her with sad eyes.
"You have done nothing wrong. Because what is wrong is veiled and served as right here. You are doing the right thing like everybody else. It's just while doing what you suppose is right, you are ultimately doing the wrong thing." She says confusing me.
"Tell me what happened when you met, Ma?" She rather asks.
"She performed some weird ritual with me," I say looking down as I remember that painful experience.
"What happened after that?" She asks reluctantly like it's not her place to ask.
"Nothing. She couldn't get the desired result and I left. I didn't like it there anyway." I say frowning while Eleanor looks at me with surprise before my mind plays a trick on me and I notice the side of her lips curving upwards.
"You'll become one of them soon." She says to herself sadly before turning around.
"I appreciate your concern for me but please don't meddle with my things. Rest assured, you can ask me of anything." She says.
"Why would you? You don't trust me then why would you help me out? You don't want to befriend me for some unknown reason then why?" I ask her desperately.
"I will be your friend. Tell me what to do. Tell me what should I do to make you happy. Isn't that what friends are supposed to do?" She asks turning to me with a little fear in her eyes.
"Tell me, please. I don't want any trouble if I upset you. Tell me what to do." She asks while I just stare at her.
"Friends are supposed to make you happy, but in their own way. One doesn't need to tell them what to do." I tell her.
Would I have been like her if I hadn't met Nina all these years ago?
"Look, I have never had friends. You need to tell me-" I cut her mid-sentence.
"There is no need of telling even if it's your first," I say.
"I don't know why you think I need to direct you. You are not my prisoner. I can't force you to like me. All I can do is be around you and see if we connect and become friends. I can't tell you what to do for being my friend. I must like you for you. Not for what you pretend to be." I say and remain silent for a few seconds while observing her expressions of utter confusion.
"I don't know what caused us to be like this even when we don't know each other. I'll just leave you, for now, to rethink what 'Friends' mean." I say before turning around and leaving her alone to think again about the term.
I come to my chamber only to find Dargan going through my scent bottles.
"What are you doing here?" I ask him.
"Is that any way to greet your husband?" He asks and I roll my eyes at him.
"What do you know about wives greeting their husbands?"
"I believe it's better than that."
"How do you know that? As long as I know, you are married for the first time just like me." I say and sit on my bed.
"Where were you?" He asks.
"Eleanor. I wanted to make sure she is alright. She didn't seem well last night and couldn't be found after I left."
"I talked to her about that already. She just didn't want anyone to know about her whereabouts. She sat hidden in her own chamber the whole time."
Eleanor wouldn't do such a childish thing.
"I know it has just been two days that I have been here but I assure you, Eleanor wouldn't do such a childish thing," I say while Dargan stares at me.
"Are you good friends with her?"
"No. She has this very different idea of being friends. She wants me to tell her what to do. That's not how it works. I don't know if you have told her to be like that but I make friends. I do not keep slaves who are told what is to be done. So, keep yourself from meddling with my business. I'll talk to her in my way." I say standing up and jabbing my finger into his chest.
He suddenly holds my finger and turns me around before caging me in his arms.
"You might want to hold that anger for your combat. And next time, don't point your little finger at me." He whispers.
"Leave me," I say with gritted teeth.
"As my Queen wishes." He says and let's go of me.
I turn to give him a piece of mind when he speaks before I could.
"Your cousin will have his Alpha ceremony the day after tomorrow. We'll leave for that and you can meet your family." He says grabbing all my attention.
"What time?" I ask.
"Evening." He says and I resist the urge to smile.
"Okay. Thank you for informing me."
"Of course I would inform you."
"Yes. Now, you should go. I need to practice a little." I say but Dargan suddenly grabs me and captures my lips.
He furiously bites my lower lip and forces his tongue inside. I lose my control and grab his hair while returning the kiss with the same passion. His hands roam at my back and I grip his hair. I pull away but his lips go down my neck. He bites my skin there and I feel my stomach churn. His lips trace to my ear and suck my earlobe before he whispers.
"Don't get yourself hurt." He says and leaves me alone in my chamber, afraid I'll catch him being protective of me as his mother had put.
My fingers trace my lips as I reminiscence what just happened. A smile forms on my lips and I bite my lower lip as the feeling of his lips still linger on mine.
I'll love it if these sudden kisses come my way more often. There is no doubt about that.
