Uncultured caller

NO!         I woke up panting. Sweats were all over my body. It's been a while since I had this dream. This seemed real, and It felt like it only happened yesterday. Heartaches embraced me all over again. ‘Did I make the wrong decision coming back here? Was I reopening an old wound? ‘stop it, Kathy! It was only a dream,’ my pesky brain reprimanded me.         I sat down and checked my nightstand clock. It was only five am in morning. Which meant I slept all day. I took out my phone and saw too many miscall logged from my dad and Mom. ‘s**t’ I forgot to tell them I have arrived safely. I quickly pressed the return call button. It was only 5 am here, which meant it’s almost noon in Switzerland. After two rings, my dad answered the call.         “Hello, sweet cake! How are you?”         “Dad! Oh my God, I’m so so so sorry for not calling you back. I was too occupied and tired from traveling, and I just woke up when I saw your missed calls. I’m sorry for worrying you and mom,” I spoke to him in one breath.         My dad chuckled on the other side. “It's Okay, Sweety, and I knew you had arrived safely. I spoke to Miles, and he told me his driver had sent you home in one piece, and so I figured it out you must be too tired to let your old folks know you’re home,” dad jokingly replied to me. “I love you, and I miss you and mom.”         “We miss you too. Enjoy your stay there, sweetie! Make memories! I shall see you soon,” dad cheerfully said to me as he sensed the sadness in my tone.         “I’ll be fine. Call you again soon! Love you!” Ending the call happily.         I knew my parents would miss me, this was the first time I stayed away from their sight, and since my dear brother, Marcus died. He died the next day after the doctors tried their best to remove the substance from his system. Marcus gave up, just like that, and did not put up the fight. He lost the battle, and so we were.         But wait! Did my dad mention he called Miles? Oh God, so he knew I was already back in town! ‘shit.’ I don’t know how I would face him. The night at the parking lot was the last night I ever spoke to him. Even after learning the real story from my older cousin Alexis, the truth of the whole story that Miles was trying to tell me.         It was painful truth that I didn’t want to hear it, but she slipped the letter inside my bag on my way to the airport leaving New York. I wasn’t able to read it until I have arrived in Switzerland. We left the city six months after Marcus’ death. My dad felt that the place wasn’t the right home anymore. We had to move on, even if it means leaving everything behind. He was hurt more than anyone of us. He lost his firstborn, the heir to his growing business. He moved his pharmaceutical company leaving his other business ventures with Miles’ Father. He only came back here at least four times a year to check on with Mr. Jack  Carlson- Miles’ dad.         Nothing had changed between our family ties. Our parents never knew what the real story was, or maybe they knew only half the truth. All they knew was somehow Marcus’ failed and gave up. We just accepted the fact and simply moved on. And as for Miles -to be fair, I blamed him until I’ve read the letter.         It was all along that Miles sacrificed his happiness for my brother, or I must say he tried. Miles fell in love with Nadia first and had a relationship. They kept it secret for a mean time since Nadia asked him not to tell everyone as her parents- especially her dad would break hell loose if he found his teenage daughter already was in a relationship. She came from a religiously strict family.         After some time, my brother had grown a fondness for Nadia. Marcus even spoke to her dad about dating her. Her dad quickly permitted Marcus, knowing he came from a quite known family. Nadia’s dad insisted she go on dates with Marcus.         Marcus thought that Nadia had hots on him, too, so she openly went and spent time with him, even in a short period. After Nadia occupied her time with him, Marcus eventually learned that she also spent time with Miles. Marcus confronted Miles, and Miles told him the whole truth, that he loved her first and had been keeping their relationship a secret. Marcus begged Miles to let Nadia be his, and Miles agreed. He did let Nadia go. Nadia quickly hooked with my brother since Marcus treated her like a princess, but My family knew nothing about it. Had I known that, I would tell my brother how cunning she was.         I knew about Nadia’s true colors. I found out her dirty little secret. I told Miles about it, but he never believed me. He called me a liar that I was jealous of since he didn’t spend his time with me like my brother and he used to do.         My spaceship of thoughts landed back after hearing my phone ringing. It was from an unknown number. I answered it, but all I heard was moaning and groaning. It was like someone was having s*x ‘oh, right! So gross’ I hung up the call and checked the number. It’s a local digit. Someone must have dialed it wrong. I saved the number just if it called again, so I knew I wouldn’t answer it in the future. ‘Uncultured caller’ typing the name of the caller.         Since it was still too early to go out, I decided to unpack all my things from my luggage and put it in my little closet. I made a mental note to go shopping since I’ve only brought just enough for me until I buy new ones. It was mostly the comfortable ones that I loved wearing, especially at home and outside the house.     I went downstairs to the kitchen and made myself a coffee, and ate cookies for breakfast. I went back to my room and took a very long hot shower. I decided to visit the first person I would ever want to see when I come, its Belinda, Miles’ mom.
