I ran away from Miles again. I couldn’t take his words anymore. After all these years, I thought I had forgotten him and the past. But I was wrong because, in just a spun of a moment, everything flooded back to me, fresh as new. I didn’t know what to do, but I was not going to show him my weakness. I won't leave this place again until I finish my mission here. He was not part of my reasons for coming back here at all.
I didn’t notice where I was soon as I stopped running. I looked around and found the shopping mart I went into yesterday. I needed some cash and food if I wanted to survive my stay here. I saw a bank nearby, strolled my way in, and did my business. I walked out and went straight to the shopping mall. I was too engrossed looking at stalls and boutiques. I still couldn’t believe that my town has built this establishment. I’ve seen kids running around with their parents.
Since I was already here, I decided to buy new clothes, dresses, and shoes. I found it cheaper to get stuff here compared to home. I was in my last shopping store when I felt my stomach grumbled. I checked my watch, it's already four o’clock ‘oh great’ no wonder I felt hungry.
I paid for my items and went straight to the exit door, I was too busy putting my card into my purse when I bumped into a wall, not hard but not too soft, and I heard it groan, ‘talking wall, wait! what?!’ I looked up, and I recognized right away it wasn’t a wall but a man, my eyes went wide when I realized it was the same guy who helped me yesterday, he was wearing a black suit, that made him look hotter. My senses snapped back when he asked me.
“Are you okay, Miss? I’m sorry I wasn't looking on my way,” He apologized.
“Oh no, it was my fault I wasn’t paying attention after all, too, sorry,” I said, composing myself, picking the paper bags that I dropped. He helped me.
I saw him frowning and scrunching as if he was trying to remember where he’d seen me, but before he could utter the words, “It’s nice to see you again, I think it's already time for me to pay you back from yesterday,” I spoke. Smiling at him
“Oh yes, It was you!!, the Swiss girl, though you don’t seem to look like one and your accent doesn’t sound one too,” he excitedly replied
“Yup, I grew up here. I just came back after years abroad. I’m Kathleen Roberts, by the way.” I don’t usually talk to strangers, but he seemed nice to be with.
“Roberts?, Are you somehow related to Roberts and Carlson Group of Companies?” he asked.
“Uhm, I guess so. My dad owns shares of the company…” I awkwardly answered him.
“Oh my God, I can’t believe I’m finally facing Mike Roberts’ daughter!” he shrieked. I frowned at him,
“Oh, I’m sorry. My name is David Holts. I am an employee at your company,” he said. “Your Dad is my boss, so technically you’re my boss too,” he sniggered.
“Hey! please don’t think about that. It’s my dad’s business, not mine” I couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m sorry for keeping you up. It seems you’re in a rush,” I continued.
“No, it’s okay. I was heading for late lunch as my boss asked me to do the meetings this morning,” scratching his neck. He looked cute.
“It’s perfect, I’m starving, and I’m about to find a place to eat for lunch. Maybe we should go together so that I can pay you back, but if not, I’ll just give you back the cash..” I offered him
“No biggies, let's go then. I’m not in a hurry, Ms. Roberts. Let’s go to my favorite place here in town.” He offered
“Please just call me Kathy. That's what my friends and people here call me” I smiled at him.
We went for lunch together, and I learned that he moved here about five years ago. He was currently working as a corporate lawyer of the R&C company, which my dad and Miles’ family owned. He was such a nice guy. I learned that he was getting married soon, and his fiancé worked as a nurse in an orphanage. Lindsay was presently looking for a replacement for her position since she’ll be busy with the preparation of their wedding. I told him that I was also a nurse, and I would love to help her.
David took my phone number and promised me that we would talk about it again with his girlfriend. I overlooked the time since we talked about so many things, and it was already seven o’clock. I can see my brother Marcus in him, ‘God, I miss my brother so much.’ I bid goodbye to David though he insisted on sending me back home. I told him that I needed to go to the grocery shop to buy some groceries.
It was almost nine o’clock when I arrived home. I was so tired that I almost fell asleep while in the bathtub. It took me nearly an hour to unload my newly bought stuff from the kitchen and to my closet. It was almost ten o’clock when I finished everything. I went straight to my bed and thought about the things that happened to me today, ‘well, it’s going to be a long hell of a year,’ I closed my eyes went to deep slumber.
