I woke up to the noise of yelling. I was blinded by the sun rays passing through the window.
"How many times I have told you! " I heard Ava yelling.
"I am sowwy." Johnny's soft voice rung in the house.
I muted their conversation as usual. I stood up from my bed and walked towards the open window. It was a sunny day of July. The air was full of flower scents as my window face the garden. The sun was high in the clouded sky. After refreshing and changing my clothes I went downstairs.
Turning around the corner, I found Johnny pouting and sitting with his little chubby arms crossed over his chest. While Ava was glaring at him. My mom as same as me muted their fighting.
"Good evening. " I said, kissing Johnny's cheeks.
"Look Leah, he went outside again without anyone with him!" Ava complaint.
"Ava chill! He is just a kid. He must have felt suffocated in the house. He needs some fresh air too." I said, rubbing her arms.
She was worried hell about the safety of his kid. Of course, why wouldn't she? There had been killings everyday. We all were on high alert.
"But, Johnny you should have taken me or someone else with you. You shouldn't go outside all by yourself, its dangerous. Your mom was so worried. Don't do this again okay.." I spoke, before Ava could start her runt again. I caressed his cheeks, Johnny nodded and we all ate in silence, as its our habit.
In my training clothes, I made my way towards training grounds. Today the training ground was filled with a big crowd, which was a unusual thing. Men and women were training brutally and with more effort.
I looked around the field and saw Benjamin and Lucas training together. Lucas tried to throw a punch to Benji's face, but he caught his fist and twisted his arm with a c***k. This made Lucas fall on the ground. Benji got on top of him and started to beat him to pulp, lucas swing his leg back and hit him on the back making Benji stumble a bit but his grip remained firm and started twisting his hands in weird way, which looked painful. Lucas surrendered by slapping his hand on the ground. Benji helped him in standing up. Both were covered in bruises and blood running down their face and body. Benji was a bit limping and his left arm looked dislocated. I moved towards them.
"Why so barbarous?" I asked, curious about their way of fighting today.
"Preparing ourselves for fight. For the worst." Lucas said, wincing.
"Are you alright?" I directed to both of them.
"Yes." they both said.
Stubborn.
"Hey guys!"
I turned left to see Joseph walking towards us.
"Ow. You guys are in a bad shape. " he said, cringing at the sight.
They both rolled their eyes and moved towards two fighting men.
"Wanna fight? " he said, smirking.
"Pleasure." I said, with a smirk of my own.
We both took our positions. I looked at him sharply, noticing every single movement of his body.
He was waiting for me to attack. So I attacked. I raised my fist to punch him and at the last minute I half raised my leg to kick him in gut. He was only able to stop my punch but not my kick to his gut. He dropped to the ground with a thud.
I smirked, he glared.
He stood up and charged at me with full speed. I could see he was planning to throw me into trees behind me. When he was at an arm's length, I moved to the side. He crashed straight into a tree. He groaned loudly.
"Such a baby!" I mocked.
He was red with anger. Taking me by surprise, he slammed me hard on the ground which contained small rocky stones. And I could see stars and birds circling in front of my vision. The impact had a bruise on the side of my forehead. I could feel blood tickling down my face. I was turned over and my arms were grabbed roughly and pulled them very tightly, that I felt like they would be out of their sockets any moment.
"Do you surrender?" he asked
"Yes." I mummer as my face was squashed with the ground.
I surrendered as the pain in my arms got unbearable. I stayed still on the ground. My arms itching from the hard pulling. My head hurt like a b***h. I was a petty good fighter but Joseph was the second best fighter in our pack.
"Leah? Are you alright?" He said, voice lacing with concern.
"Man! You almost ripped my arms out of my sockets and broke my head into two! Of course, I am not right!." I yelled.
"Oh s**t!"
"What the hell! Joseph! I said go easy on her, not killing her!" I heard Benji's voice over my head.
I turned my head to left to see their legs, standing close to my still body.
"Why are you guys acting so barbaric today!?" I moaned with pain.
"C'mon let's get you fixed up." Benji said, picking me up in a bridal style.
"I am so sorry Leah. I got carried way." Joseph said.
"Its okay." I smiled weakly.
"100 runs around the perimeter!" Benjamin barked at him, veins popping up on his forehead.
Joseph nodded and gave me a sorry look and ran away.
"Benji. It was harsh. Its okay. I am fine." I said,
"No! You are hurt! He shouldn't have lost control. He should know how to control his anger. What if he had snapped your neck!?" he said, loudly.
Over dramatic. I rolled my eyes.
"Don't roll your eyes at me!" he said, looking annoyed.
Now I understand why Ava is always running away from you, I thought .
Asshole.
"I heard you." he said, narrowing his eyes at me.
I stuck my tongue at him. Rested my head on his sweaty chest. I could feel myself slipping into darkness.
I opened my eyes and saw my ceiling which was covered with shining stars that shines in dark. I sat up with a wince. There was a bit pain in my arms. I felt bandage under my fingers, on my forehead. I moved my eyes towards the open window, which remains open always. The sun was setting with reddish orange rays covering the blue sky. I heard opening of my door. My mom and Ava came in.
"How are you feeling?" Ava asked, taking a seat on bed beside me.
"I am feeling fine." I said, smiling.
"Thank god. I was so scared when Benjamin came with you limp in his arms. Both covered in blood." my mom explained, looking worried.
"Mom. I am fine." I said, chucking.
"Don't scare me like that." she said, kissing my head.
"Mom I am hungry!" I complaint. They both laughed.
"Go take a bath first and then come down. You reek like a dirty dog." she said
I rolled my eyes at her remark. I took shower with a great effort as my arms were sore. I have been feeling weird all day. Like something big is going to happen tomorrow. I was feeling uneasy till the end of the day. I hope everything will be fine tomorrow.
