Rex looked at the woman before him and he moaned softly to suppress the threat of his lung giving up on him and making him puke because of how disorderly she was. To prevent the unfortunate incident from happening, he averted his eyes from her.
That was another mistake on his part as his eyes landed on the garbage basket sitting pretty by the side of the door. A sight he hadn't been able to behold the previous day. How can someone be so dirty, even so early in the morning? He thought as he threw another quick glance at her.
Her red hair glared at him, pointing in every direction it could see, including the roof of the house. Her face was a little swollen and her gray eyes were so puffy, he feared that she had turned into a vampire sometimes in the night.
As the evil thought took root in his heart, he clasped his hands over his neck, feeling around for any suspicious wound. When he found none, he relaxed his tensed nerves and faced the woman who seemed to still be in shock over the way he shouted at her.
"What the f**k do you still think that you are doing, still staying in my face like that?!" He shouted at her.
The shout seemed to draw Eleanor out of the b*****e she placed herself in and she scooted out of the crouching position she was in.
"Bo-boss. Good…morning." She stuttered the greeting at him. She stole a quick glance at him, noticing that apart from the under bag under his eyes, he was still the perfect definition of a greek god.
"And what's so good about the morning?" Rex spreaded out his hand in exasperation. "Is it your rough hair or your ugly face or your wrinkled dress?" He hissed loudly.
Eleanor took a step back from him because of the way he degraded her. She risked a look at her dress and saw that it was indeed wrinkled. Unconsciously, her hand went straight to her head and she began to force the locks to lay down into their rightful places.
How could she be this messy? She asked her brain while glancing at the rigid Rex whose clothes were without a wrinkle despite the fact that he also slept in them. Why can't her dear body learn from the Mr. Perfectionist standing in front of her?
"Will you quit ogling me like I'm some sort of rare artifact you just discovered?" He told her with a sneer. He was getting irritated with her. He was getting irritated with the rat hole she termed her home and the shabiness of it.
Now, he was beginning to regret how his body had betrayed him by getting tired which caused him to sleep over in such a house and such a couch. He eyed the said couch like it was responsible for all the misery he felt in that moment. It was at that moment his eyes saw a tiny cockroach singing and dancing around happily on the couch, with not a single worry.
"What the?!" He yelled and stormed out of the place.
Eleanor was taken back with the odd reaction. She looked at the couch that brought the action from her boss and nearly cursed when she saw the cockroach. Without bothering to kill the cockroach or even waiting for anything, she rushed after the man.
"Boss. Please wait," she yelled for him to stop.
Rex heard her tiny voice calling out to him but he didn't act as if he heard her and kept walking on, causing her to race after him to his car. "I'm so sorry about that, boss." She apologized while he was opening the car.
"Get lost, woman. You've been nothing but trouble to me ever since I employed you. If you were sent to make me miserable, just quit now since you won't succeed." He spat the words at her.
"Sorry, sir," she apologized again. "And thank you for bringing me home safely last night."
"Save your apologies for yourself. Aso, I don't need your gratitude because I did that when I was drunk. If I was in my right mind, I would have just left you at that place."
Eleanor felt a little hurt about the words he spoke to her but she shrugged it off. She knew that her boss was the kind of person that can make other people feel bad of themselves even without trying.
"Would you like me to make some breakfast for you?" She asked him instead. "Just to say thank you for your help last night."
Rex was about to open the car door but he paused. His eyes burned into hers, causing Eleanor to look away from him.
"And what do you want to cook the meal with? Huh? Those dirty utensils? Which plates would you use in serving me the meal? Those plates that had rotten food on them? Over my dead body."
Shame gripped Eleanor and she turned her head downward. She longed to tell him that the reason why her house was so unkempt was because of him. She was in such an awkward mess because of how demanding he was and her fear of not losing her job.
As it was, she never had any time for herself ever since she started working for the man. Forget herself, she couldn't even remember the last time she phoned her mother and that was something she never joked with.
"Sorry about that, sir." She apologized again.
Rex got agitated with her. "If you say sorry one more time…" He left the threat hanging in the air.
"Sor…," Eleanor started. When Rex looked at her like an evil witch performing a death spell, she kept mute.
Rex got into his BMW car and started the engine before he even bothered to look at her again. If it was possible, then he would prefer not to look at her at all. He wished that he never saw this side of hers since the image wouldn't leave his mind in such a long time. Every time he saw her at the office, he would keep thinking about her rough nature.
"At least, she's not always rough when she comes in for work." He muttered under his breath.
"Did you say something?" Eleanor asked him, leaning a little closer to his tainted window.
"Just know you'll be fired if I get to work before you." He said in such a loud voice, Eleanor moved back a little in the hope of evading his anger.
"But I don't have a car and you do. That's not fair." She protested.
"Then, I suppose you don't need to report to work at all, do you? Even if you manage to get there before me, I will still fire you once the week is over." He threatened her.
"Sorry, sir," Eleanor apologized again, tears already flowing from her eyes. "I promise to do better."
"I still can't wait to fire you, woman." The man smirked at her. With that said, he zoomed out of the place, not bothering to listen to anything else she wanted to say.
As Eleanor watched the BMW car sped away from her, she wiped the tears on her face away angrily. Her boss had just humiliated her and all she could do was apologize to the man. Like, he had no problem making her feel less than human because of his stupid 'I'm a perfect human and so everybody must also be perfect' mentality.
How bad she even thought that the man was nice? Just because he brought her home from the party? The same event he had forced her to just because she was his secretary.
She should start to look for another job, she knew that. But she also knew that what she was thinking about was almost an impossible task.
"I have no choice since he might fire me." She reminded herself.
She groaned as she remembered the promise he made to her. She quickly rushed in to prepare for work and get there before he did. From the little she knew about the man, she was sure that he would indeed fire her if she got there even a second later than him.
"Bastard!!" She yelled into the air. She heard someone chuckling at her and she waved her hand in the direction the sound came from, not even bothering to know who it was. It was either that or when she got to work, then she found out she had been fired.
As she took her showers while in the bathroom and dressed herself up in readiness for work, she kept thinking about how mean her boss was. A part of her mind kept telling her to resign before he forced her into early retirement from his company while the other kept telling her how foolish she would be to leave such a job that would profit her so much even before she was sacked.
More so, didn't you see that part of his kind side that brought you home? That mind reminded her.
"That's true," she told herself. "If he doesn't have any compassion for humans like he wanted, then he would have left me at the party. Perhaps, just perhaps." She reasoned as she stormed out of the house.
