Rex grunted as he imagined how much trouble it would be getting his troublesome secretary home. He picked her up from the floor and winced at how light she seemed in his arms. If anyone asked him, then he would have told them to feed her well.
"Does she even bother to eat?" He whispered to himself. He ignored all the strange stares he got from the few people who remained at the event hall. "Open the damn door!" He yelled at his driver as soon as he got outside.
He thought about how he must be unlucky, otherwise, why would he be the one find the rude woman?
"Sorry, sir." The man apologized and quickly went over to the car to unlock the closed doors. Within a few seconds, the doors were opened. "There you go, sir." He gestured to the door.
Between the two of them, they were able to get Eleanor into the backseat of the car. Rex got in to the front of the car.
"Get us to her home." He commanded the driver just before he rested his head on the edge of the seat and closed his eyes. He knew he was a little tipsy and needed to head to his house but the last thing he wanted was for him to take a stranger over to his house. He liked his house clean and wouldn't let soneone dirty them, thank you very much.
"We're here, sir." The driver announced, waking his boss up. "Should I take Eleanor over to the apartment?" He asked when Rex opened his eyes.
"What? No. I'll just take her myself. Just go home now," Rex told his driver.
"But what about you, sir? How would you get home?" The driver asked with a worried tone.
"It's not as if I can't drive," Rex reminded him. He got down from the car and went to the backseat to pick his secretary. Once the woman was secured in his arms, he turned back to the driver who still looked at him in bafflement. "You are free to leave now." His tone left no room for an argument.
He turned with the sleeping woman in his arms, his feet staggering a little as he made his way to her apartment which looked a little too small to him. Once he got there, he dropped her gently on the floor and fished through her bag for her room key. He found it after a few seconds of searching and opened the door. Once that was done, he picked her up again and went inside.
The first thing his nose picked up was the offensive smell coming from somewhere in the pitch dark room. He felt around the wall for the switch and flicked it on when his hands landed on it.
"What the f**k kind of home is this?!" He yelled to no one in particular, his eyes taking in the state of the room.
His eyes scanned from the mismatched chairs in the room, the faded and old table, then to the walls that looked like they had never been painted before since all the paint has peeled off. Then, his eyes darted to the curtains that were of the rainbow colors, all guarding the dark night from peeking inside.
"Who the hell lives in this hell of a place?" He muttered to himself in disgust and shook his head.
As if to answer his question, the woman in his arms smuggled even closer, wrapping her hands around his neck to protect herself.
Rex looked at her and tsked. Had he thought that she was a little bit poor before because of her cheap clothing? Now, he knew that he was wrong about her. She was not poor. She was poorer than even the church rat, he thought as he looked around again, his brain recognizing that there were no three-seaters, sofa, or even anything expensive in the room he stood in. A room he assumed was her living room.
Soon, his arms began to protest the weight in them, so he left the room and went in search of her room. He didn't have to look for a long time since the very first door he opened happened to lead to her room. He knew it was so because he saw the dress she wore to the office the previous day lying around on the floor.
Plus there was a mirror and a table decorated with makeup and other things ladies use in a corner of the room. Of course, he didn't fail to notice that other than the small bed, the mirror and the dresser, and the wardrobe in the room, everywhere was pretty empty and reeked of poverty like the other room he just came from.
He clicked his tongue loudly as he went further into the room to drop the load in his arms on the bed. Once he got that done, he turned to leave but his feet wouldn't move.
"Would she be able to sleep in those tight clothes of hers?" He asked himself. He shrugged his right shoulder. "Well, it is none of my business." He reminded himself. He made to leave but stopped again. "I should at least help her to take her shoes off." He told himself.
Before he could talk himself out of it, he went back to the bed and took off the high heels she had strapped to her feet off.
"That should make her sleep better." He nodded to himself and walked to the door. He was about to step out when he turned back to look at her again. "I think I should just undress her." He shrugged again.
"Leave it, Rex. It's not even like her body is attractive enough to seduce you."
"I bloody hate my CEO. Believe me when I say I hate him a lot," Eleanor grumbled in her sleep.
"Well, that settles it," Rex told himself. With that, he went out and shut the door firmly.
As soon as he stepped back to the living room, the stench that first greeted him hit him again and he let out a loud curse. Annoyed by the smell, he looked around until he found the kitchen where the smell was from. He saw her piled up used plates and barely held himself from cursing again, especially when he saw the one with leftover food that was already rotten.
Unable to take his mind off it, he began to clean the small kitchen up. Almost an hour later, he was done with the chores. He felt happy knowing that he just made everywhere clean and tidy like he liked. But he was also tired.
He went to the only couch available in the living room and sat there.
"I'll just regain my strength here for a little while and then drive home." He told himself, relaxing on the couch. Only a few moments later, he was fast asleep.
*******
[The next morning.]
Eleanor stretched on the bed to stretch out her tensed body. Her head hurt a little and the events of the previous night felt a little blurry in her mind. The only thing she remembered was that she had gone to an event with her boss. Her arrogant boss who had forced her to remember everything about him because of the threat of losing her job.
"Oh, my God!!" She facepalmed herself and shot out of bed. She was going to be fired if she got to work and her boss was already there.
Then, all the days she stayed awake to memorize his schedule would be for naught. All the days she couldn't tidy up because she was afraid of getting to work late would not matter anymore.
She picked up the dress she had dumped on the floor two days ago because she was too exhausted to place it in the basket and rushed to the living room. Her feet refused to move when she saw her boss sleeping peacefully on her couch. She moved over to where he was as she tried to think about what he was doing in her house.
As comprehension dawned on her, her face lit up and she became giddy. So, he actually brought her home? She asked herself silently. Despite all his harsh words to her, he still took care of her when she had indulged in too much alcoholic wine.
"I guess he's not as bad as he is trying to make himself seem like." She whispered in such a low voice, she wasn't sure she heard herself well.
She bent low and began to study his face. She noticed that his always stoic face was soft and the fact that his eyelashes were long. Her right hand extended of its own accord and tried to touch his long lashes.
Rex opened his eyes at that moment. When he saw the hand of his secretary dangerously close to him, he sat up straight.
"What do you think you are doing with that dirty hand?!" He yelled at her.
