The leavers assembly was all set up in the hall. Teachers and janitors running around finishing off details as we students helped each other with our Uniforms and making sure we all looked smart.
Jess was giving a big speech and I knew she was nervous as her whole family were coming to see her. As well as my mum, brother and Caleb. I know she will be fine, she always is fine, she is confident but tried to hide it. She is perfect. I really just wish she and Myles would admit their feelings for each other and get together. Life is too short for what if’s.
Just as the last of the audience arrive, we get organised for our little show. First up is the drama class and their little play they put together. It really is quite funny how they managed to keep the context hidden from the teachers. They won't know what has hit them when they realise the show is all about them.
Yeah, it didn’t go down to well with some of the teachers. I think they have realised how bad some of them are. Apart from the head teacher off course, they weren’t too horrible about him. He is retiring this term, so we gave him a nice farewell gift.
Next up was Jess. She wasn’t looking as nervous now as she did earlier this morning. And just like I knew it would be, perfect. She is an amazing speaker in front of big groups like this. I really don't know how she does it.
After Jess done her speech, there was a small awards ceremony. The teachers all lined up with the awards and announced the best student in their classes. Jess got an award for English, a short story competition or something like that. I got one for best design in computer studies. A few other of our friends got ones as well.
The assembly finished with the music class and choir singing a ballad, that had a few of the women in the audience grabbing tissues from their bags. I could see my mum and Jess’ mum wiping their eyes. I did have a little chuckle but also had a tear in my eye.
Once it was all over all the students made their way to the families and friends to see them. I quickly made my way over to Caleb as I know he had to rush off for his exam.
“That was better than my leavers assembly” he said as he hugged me
“Yeah, I thought it was fun” I said as we headed to the front door. “Good luck, not that you need it and please call me once you are done.” I kiss his cheek as he heads off in his car.
Back in the hall there are not a lot of people left, Myles and mum had to head back to the garage as it is so busy. Most students helping tidy up the chairs and things, so I best help out.
It didn’t take us long to clean up and we left the building after saying goodbyes to teachers and other students. That’s it no more school. Hopefully, Uni in the next few months. Now Summer time is here, and we can party until our hearts content.
Prom is tonight and I can’t wait to celebrate with Caleb and my bestie. Jess still was adamant that she will be fine on her own at prom but I couldn't help but feel bad for her. No-one should be going to their Prom on their own, even if they were to go with a friend but Jess can be so stubborn.
We were getting ready at my place, doing our hair and make-up with a little help from our mums. Yes, Jess’ parents come along to get pictures of us to add to their crazy collection of special moments.
We had left the men downstairs over an hour ago so we could get ready. Caleb had arrived half dressed in his suit not wanting to be ready and sitting uncomfortable. Myles and Jess’ dad keeping him company. No doubt telling him to behave and look after us girls.
Just as I slipped on my dress I hear my mum sniffle behind me.
“My don't cry, you will get me started and we just finished my make-up” I tell her as I wrap my arms around her.
“I know. I said I wouldn’t, but you just look so beautiful. Your dad would be so proud of you” she sobs a little.
“Thanks mum. Now wipe those tears. We have a prom to get to” I chuckle as she blows her nose and make a noise like a trumpet, making us all burst into laughter.
My mum and Jess’ mum disappear downstairs, leaving me and Jess to finish up getting ready. Shoes on and bags in hand and we take some selfies and nice pictures of each other.
I head downstairs first Jess saying she needed a minute before coming down. I walk down and find Caleb standing waiting at the bottom of the stairs, looking hot as hell. I just couldn't help myself checking him out. Licking my lips I notice he is doing the same.
“You look stunning, babe” he says as I get to the bottom step.
“You look hot” I whisper in his ear as he kissed my cheek.
Myles coughs to break our moment and that is when I notice he is wearing a suit and a tie the same blue colour as Jess’ dress.
“Why the suit Myles?” I ask him as I stand in front of him.
“Well, there is no way Jess is going on her own with you two love birds. So, I will take her and make sure she has the best night of her life” he says with a stupid grin on his face.
Just then Jess’ dad groans and moves away to the living room. Not sure if he approves of Myles’ choice of words. I was about to ask exactly what Myles meant by what he said when I hear a gasp come from him, I turn around to see Jess descending the stairs, looking stunning as always.
“You look amazing, Jess” Caleb says as he helps her down the last few steps.
“Thanks” she blushes as Myles moves to stand in front of her.
“You look beautiful. Not that you don't normally look beautiful” Myles starts to ramble
“Why are you wearing a suit, you off out?” Jess casually asks as mum starts to take pictures of me and Caleb. I hear everything they say to each other as I smile for my mum
“I’m taking you to Prom” he says to her. She gasps in shock.
“You don't have to. Did Mia put you up to this?” Jess asks
“No, she didn’t. She did mention you didn’t have a date but that was all. Will you let me take you to prom?” he sounds nervous, my poor brother. I have never seen or heard him this nervous before.
“If you don't have anything else planned, then that would be lovely” Jess says in a whisper. Totally shipping this pair. Let’s hope they have fun, not too much fun with him being my brother but still fun.
After thousands of pictures and a lecture from Jess’ dad, aimed mainly at Myles but we all listened, to behave and be sensible, you know the dad talk. I had to laugh at the way he was looking at Myles though. I’m sure there was hidden meaning in his words, but Myles was not fazed at all as he stood and stared at Jess the whole time.
Myles and Jess soon jumping into Myles’ car and waving at everyone as they drove off, Caleb picking up my bag and putting it in his car and doing the same, leaving my mum and Jess’ parents at the door.
On the way to the hotel I was nervous, but I have no idea why. Maybe because Myles was going to be there, I have no clue.
“Did you know Myles was planning this?” I asked Caleb as he drove.
“He asked if she had found a date and when I told him no, he went a bit weird, but I didn’t know until you went upstairs to get ready. Uncle Dave said that Myles called round and spoke to Aunt Tilly to get details of her dress colour and he told them his plan. Uncle Dave wasn’t best pleased, but Aunt Tilly put him in his place, saying that Myles is a gentleman and Jess is lucky to have a man like him in her life” Caleb told me.
“Wow. I had hinted to Myles the other week when I found out Jess dumped that dickhead, but I didn’t think he would actually go to that much trouble for her.” I said as Caleb pulled up in the carpark and parked beside Myles.
Getting our bags out of the car, we quickly checked in and gave our bags over the reception and got our keys. We would check out our room later on, at least after our meal and a few drinks.
Once we got into the room and found our table, Jess and Myles were already seated and drinking what looked like champagne. We headed over and sat with them and waited for the night to begin.
“You ok?” I asked Jess after Caleb and Myles left to get more drinks
“Yeah. Did you know?” she asked. I shook my head and told her what Caleb told me in the car.
“Wow.” Was all she could say before the guys arrived back.
The night was going amazing. Me and Caleb slipped away to go check out our room, with Myles and Jess following us. The room was pretty amazing. For a basic room, it screamed luxury. The bathroom had a huge tub and a shower, the bed was massive as well and the little lounge area right in front of floor to ceiling window overlooking the walled garden at the back of the hotel.
After a quick freshen up and re-applying of makeup we headed back down to enjoy our night. Once we got back to the hall, Myles and Jess instantly hit the dance floor, leaving me and Caleb to mingle and have a few more drinks. Just as I was getting ready to sit down, Caleb got my attention by making a strange noise. I looked up to see him staring at the dance floor and when my eyes landed on what he was looking at I nearly brought up my food and drinks.
Jess and Myles, eating each other’s face.
