2. THE CEO

THE CEO. RYAN’S POV Life was all fun and games until I was fired from my highly paying job. After losing my job, I have been having lots of misfortunes. I was kicked from my three bedroom apartment that I was renting because of rent arrears. Therefore, I didn’t have any other option other than moving to a studio apartment so as to keep up. Food started becoming a challenge yet I was not getting a new job to replace my old one. Technically, the company had blocked me from getting employed somewhere else. If I should have hope of ever getting employed, then I had to do the odd jobs where my degree in International Relations would not be needed. I had dropped my CVs in the top hotels around but still I didn’t get a reply. Anyway, I was scrolling through my ** this morning when I saw a post that, The Grand Hotel was employing cleaners and it was calling on everyone to show up before 12:00noon for the interview. They were going to employ people on first come and first serve basis. I had to hurry up and get there. This was my last hope of ever finding a job. I took a quick shower and after that I wore my black suit. I had lots of suits in my closet because of my last job. Honestly, I had nothing else to wear apart from this suit. Once I was done preparing, I rushed out and took a cab to The Grand Hotel. At exactly 12:00noon, I had arrived. There were almost twenty people in the vicinity and everyone was staring at me because I had worn a suit to the interview yet I would just be nothing more than a cleaner. I didn’t care though because they really don’t know why I am in this situation. It is not like I wanted to be here in the first place. “Please follow me,” A lady told all of us and we followed him to a small board room. “Thank you for turning up. My name is Mrs. Dora. I am really happy that all of you want to work at this place. This means that The Grand Hotel is loved by the people of this town. Anyway, I am going to stick to the rules and the regulation. I mentioned that people are going to be employed on first come basis and therefore, the first ten people who were registered at the gate are the ones who are going to get the job. For the rest of you, thank you for coming. I wish there was something else that I could possibly do to ensure that all of you get a job. With that, can you please excuse me, I want to talk to the first ten people. Kindly,” Mrs. Dora shrugged and I could feel my heart beating at twice its normal speed. This is impossible. I can’t fail to get this job. I needed this job. I had bills to pay and I also needed to get food. I must get this job. I must be employed at The Grand Hotel. The rest of the people left but I didn’t leave. As I stated earlier, I was going to do anything to ensure that I get this job. “Who has not left? Please ladies and gentlemen, if you were not a part of the top ten, please leave. There is one of you who is still here,” Mrs. Dora begged us. I was never going to leave. The rest of the ten people tried to point at me but I didn’t leave. I was here to stay. I was never going to leave this place without a job. Mrs. Dora was forced to go and get the list. They called out the ten people and I was left inside with Mrs. Dora. “Really?” She was so angry at me. “Madam, I really need this job. Okay? I am really begging you.  I want to be employed here. I don’t have any other job. If I don’t get this job, I will be kicked out of my house and in addition to that, I will lack the money to buy food,” I begged her. “I know you guys. Stop lying to me. How can you say that you will lack the money to buy food yet you that suit on you? Can I ask, where did you get the money to buy the suit then? I am not stupid young man. Leave now,” She warned. “Please Mrs. Dora. I really need this job,” I begged. “You are rude. To add on that, you are a liar. Please don’t waste my time. We are done here!” She said with a voice that was slightly enraged. “I am begging you,” I continued begging. “Leave or otherwise, they are going to drag you out by the bouncers of this place,” She said this and I didn’t have any other choice but to leave. As I walked along the hallway out of the small board room, my crying was both ferocious and noisy. I blinked briny tears from my bloodshot eyes, my thick lashes struck together in clumps as if I had been swimming. The tears made wet tracks down my face and dripped from my stubble, wobbling chin. I was an emotional person and I could never handle being rejected. I felt as if I had failed in life. I felt like I didn’t deserve anything good in this life. I couldn’t walk like this. I needed to sit somewhere and be calm before I go home. The last thing that I wanted was for people to see me like this. I went and sat at the far end of the lobby where no one could see me. Clear watery snot streaked from my flaring nostrils down to my red mottled skin, to my open quivering lips. My hands opened then closed, rhythmically clenching as if there could be some violent solution to this pain, if I could only find it. It is truly f****d up how every time someone feels emotional pain, it doesn’t hurt as a cut or a bruise wound. It is just this heavy feeling. Your head spins and it is as if your tongue feels too big for your mouth. You feel the need to wipe away non-existent teas that want to form but they won’t. It is extremely f****d up how you feel that pain and the only explanation you can sum up, is how you caused that pain on yourself. All that does, though, is bring on even more pain. Every ounce of you wishes you had the nerve to swing your body off the top of a building. To walk deep into the depths of the ocean and stay down under. To take a gun and place the cool metal down your throat, pulling the trigger, shooting away the pain.   What the heck am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to give up in this fight or what else am I supposed to do? I was about to leave the hotel when I recalled something. I knew for a fact that the CEO of this hotel is at the top most floor of this hotel. What if I go to him and ask him directly for a job. I know that he will not turn me down. I know that he can be cold and ruthless but one thing that I held on is the fact that I am a hard worker and he was definitely going to embrace me. Even if I was just going to be a cleaner. I looked around carefully to ensure that I was not in anyone’s radar before I rushed to the elevator. My suit helped me at this point.  They probably thought that I was someone important. Immediately I got to the elevator, a waitress come in with a trolley full of room cleaning essentials. She smiled at me briefly before pressing the button of the 30th floor, where I was also going to. We stood in silence till we were at the top floor . She was shocked to see me walk behind her. “Where are you going sir?” She asked me. “I want to see the CEO.” I told her and she shook her head as if doubting what I had just said. “Do you have an appointment?” She asked. “Of course I do. Wait, if you don’t want me to see him I can always take my deal elsewhere. For example at the High End Group of Hotels,” I told her this and her jaw dropped. “I am so sorry sir. I am so sorry sir. Please come with me. I am going to show you the CEO’s office,” She apologized. “What is your name, lady?” I asked her. “My name is Chloe sir. Please font tell the boss that I was rude to you, he will fire me in an instant,” She begged. “Don’t worry about it, it is all good,” I assured her. “He is here to see the CEO for a good deal.” Chloe told the bouncers who paved the way for me to pass as if I was some kind of royalty. “Just walk in, the CEO is waiting for you,”
